“Take your time,” Bernie said.

Jersey’s face twisted into an angry shape. “I hate when people say that.”

“No offense intended,” Bernie began, “I only – “

“I hate that whole mentality, unnerrstan’?”

“I do,” Bernie said.

Here’s a crazy thing. Scents and Sensibility, the Chet and Bernie novel now on sale in its digital version for $1.99, seems to be (at least this morning), #1 on Amazon’s list of cozy animal mysteries and also #1 in hard-boiled mysteries. Hello? How can anything be both cozy and hard-boiled? But perhaps on further reflection (a rarity in my M.O.), this clumsy pairing hints at something possibly appealing about the series. And that brings to an end this episode of on further reflection, unlikely to ever to be repeated.
