Reader Questions

I am still waiting to read “Of Mutts And Men”! Why? This is not just a ‘book’ to read and fiction at that, but these events in the life of Chet and Bernie comes alive and gets into our heart and soul! All the titles in this series have meaning that goes beyond description! Mr. Quinn did you plan it that way?

Me: Good question, Margo! Assuming by “titles” you mean the individual books in the series, my goal is to write an entertaining story. But in the writing of that story, deeper things start to happen, almost like there’s a current flowing under me. After a while I cotton on! And begin to make conscious use of the subterranean meaning. But never in a way – I hope – that would slow the story down. Hope this helps – Peter.

I like the titles of the novels. I looked up Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men to remind me of the story line. Its title was based on a Robert Burns’ poem, “To a Mouse”–“The best laid schemes of mice and men/ Often go awry.”

    Good morning all.

I am back! While we did not lose electricity in this neck of the woods (very good!), we were not so lucky with our cable service. No TV, phone, and internet! I hope that our cable company doesn’t intend to bill us for the days we were without service. Service was just restored this morning after being out since Tuesday afternoon.

I like the titles of the C&B books too…They are very clever!

    Good afternoon to all!

Wose! Glad you and The Professor are ok! Pesky hurricanes. It’s weird to now live where we don’t have to watch for those storms.

B: we need your expertise for “to cotton on” or “to cotton to.” A word that is a noun and a verb. Which came first, the noun or the verb? And why did this noun come to mean “to understand” or “to take a liking to” when it is used as a verb? This is very weird to me.
