Out of Tune

Today I took a rather windy and somewhat brisk bike ride for an hour or so. No one around so breaking into song for a moment or two caused no disturbance. Speaking of singing, here’s a little something from Mrs. Plansky’s Revenge ( coming July 25, available for pre-order):
Norm gazed at her, his eyes now deep in his skull and getting deeper, but she could still see him way down in there, her Norm. He began to sing My Funny Valentine. Norm was a terrible singer– although he did a lot of singing during the course of an average day – scratchy, out of tune, unstable in pitch – but this one time, two days from death, as it turned out, and until he’d run out of oxygen, he’d sung like an angel, or, to be more specific, Tony Bennett.

Happy Friday, friends!! Bright sunshine today and finally above freezing. Sounds like a lot of mini glaciers calving outside. Ice is very noisy as it melts off every surface. News reports that this ice storm is headed to the northeast with windchills of -30 and -50 in places. Mt Washington in New Hampshire (I believe that is right) is expecting-100 windchills.
Spence, no bike rides until this is over!!

    Greetings!

    Spence: A bike ride?!? Brr…

Very cold and windy in this neck of the woods. So windy, that there are white caps on the Hudson River.

RIO! I can’t wait to see Friend’s quilling projects!

    Good afternoon to all!

It’s pretty cold here too. The actual temp isn’t that bad, although it is dropping throughout the day and will bottom out in the low teens by tomorrow morning, but the wind chill is absolutely brutal. Blustery is definitely the right term. We were walking earlier this afternoon and while Franklin did not seem to mind it that much, Debbie and I were pretty frozen when we got back home. Brrrr!

Ah, Cole Porter. I love My Funny Valentine.

You’re my funny valentine, sweet comic valentine.
You make me smile with my heart.
    Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet, you’re my favorite work of art.

Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?

But don’t change a hair for me, not if you care for me.
    Stay little valentine, stay!
    Each day is Valentine’s Day.

Tony Bennett, alas, is retired. Still with us last I heard and painting up a storm but no longer touring or singing.

Thanks to modern technology we can hear him again and again anytime we want.
