Memorial Day

” … to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan … ” (Lincoln’s Second Inaugural

Memorial Day began after the Civil War as Decoration Day. Laying flowers on the battlefields was already happening during the war. What a lucky country we are in many ways. For example, when we absolutely had to have a man like Lincoln, there he was. Do the problems we have now seem somewhat trivial compared to what we’ve faced in the past?

    More and more of our population is clueless as to how lucky we are. It comes from failing to learn history and then learn from it.

    Today is also Learn About Composting Day, National Snail Day and for those in the UK it is National Biscuit Day, biscuits being cookies, and Glouchestershire Cheese Rolling Day.

    It is also International Day of U.N. Peacekeepers.

    Still thinking about installing one of those porthole bubble windows for Diana alá Franklin and Abby/ Pyramus and Thisbe. Perhaps for her birthday.

    War!…Wishing everyone here had a very restful and peaceful Memorial Day…snuffle!…Here it seems we are at war albeit a silent war. Mother has finally pushed my friend over her limit of taking mean nasty, snide, spiteful remarks about everything….grunt!…So now my friend figures she has a couple of choices. One being to ignore her which she did today. Two being as mean and spiteful and nasty as her. But I doubt my friend will choose that option….snort!…The other option I thought about is we get up at a reasonable time…8:00ish and then we take off in the Subaru and head for a lovely lake…chuffle!…Just stay away all day long and see how she does with that…gruffle!

    Grandma!…My friends Grandma, Mothers mother, told my friend to NEVER LIVE WITH HER…snuff!…Mother made grandmas life miserable as well. One day she drove grandma to tears and luckily we were there and could comfort grandma…sniffle!…Well I wish my friend would have listened. Well my friend could put the hammer down at any time. But she never wanted her grandma or great grandma to go to a senior citizens home. It’s against everything she believes. Except both of them lived very long and needed professional care….sob!
