Meet Petunia!

The random number generator has been hauled out to the shop, but on the way it managed to gasp out: “Petunia!” That makes Petunia Chet’s October Friend of the Month over on the FB page. Petunia’s human companion will get a signed copy of BARK TO THE FUTURE, the most recent Chet and Bernie novel, and Petunia will be the profile pic for the entire month – as soon as IT shows up, perhaps iffy on a rainy Saturday. Next month this could be you! Just post a pic to the FB page. R#G – assuming the shop dudes come up big – will do the rest.

Love the ears and those attractive polka dots. Is that really a chihuahua thing? She looks more like a German Shorthair in a chihuahua disguise.

We didn’t get home from my parent’s house until last night. It has been a full week, I had to stay an extra day and now I’m going back on Monday.

    Rats.

Last night we came home to my house and Diana would not shut up, barking warnings of anxiety in the yard. Finally I went out and got her at 4 am. I could get her to stop but she always started up again. Freyja had no idea what the fuss is about. I suspect it is the neighbor feral cats using the top of my fence as an elevated highway as the security cam will pick them up on my front porch about 4am. It’s and easy jump from the fence and that is likely a convenient save route to get from the alley to the street. I have seen a cat up there around midnight so I suspect that is what is setting her off. She hates cats. I think one of them scared her or something when she was a puppy.

Freyja, on the other hand is silent and doesn’t seem interested. I haven’t tried her with cats. She may be okay with them. But I know she has a hatred for rodents. Field mice in my yard and rats at my parent’s house. She is a hunter. She has tracked their hiding places. The other night when she didn’t come to bed I went out and she was silently sitting watch in the middle of my parent’s dining room. I’m sure she was waiting for the rats to come down and look for food.

They were having a disco rat ball in the ceiling crawl space. They were up there dancing Thursday night so Friday I called an exterminator. They’ll be over on Monday so I only get the weekend at home before we all pack up and go back. Not sure how much I can get done I am so sleep deprived. But at least the weather is nice.

I finished the planter where the Gnome Garden is so no more yard work for a while. At least, no more digging and shoveling. There is still more irrigation to do, including sweating two copper pipes. I hate that but it has to be done.

The exterminator comes for an inspection and estimate on Monday so I’ll have to go back early. That will give me an extra day. There is spaghetti sauce to make, apples to core and make into filling we freeze and many clothes to sew. Some of my Mom’s clothes have holes where she had repaired them with iron on patches and now they have holes. So I’m making her her two favorite patterns, a sun dress and a jumpsuit. All with colorful fabrics of her favorite things.

They are signed up for a cruise so she’ll be taking them along.

And *I’ll* get an entire week of dog sitting in peace and quiet so I can relax too.

Today is International Day of Older Persons. I’ll be 68 soon so I think this is my day. For the rest of you, perhaps you can be honorary old persons.

Aside from bringing in the mail, I’m not sure I have the energy to do anything around my house.
