He came around from behind the cash register and rolled toward us in his wheelchair real fast, long hair lifting off his shoulders in the breeze. Vin was another old Army pal of Bernie’s, had a massive upper body and below that a lower body easily covered by a small blanket. They shook hands, Bernie’s hand, which normally looked so big, lost in Vin’s. “What’s doin’?” Vin said, reaching into his pocket and tossing a biscuit my way. I was ready, caught it in midair.

It is a lovely day. I’ll be going out back to work on the yard and refill the trash bins, plus rotate the laundry. Did another load last night that will have to go in the dryer as soon as I empty it.
Maybe even find some time to repot roses and start more seedlings. It’s been really mild but I think I can safely start the tomatoes.

Anyone remember Sea World San Diego in the early 70s? Just bought a postcard of the Murata Pearl Japanese Village and pearl divers. My Mom has a ring (I will never inherit) we all chipped in to get her with a pearl the divers brought up. I remember watching them every time we went until Sea World remodeled. I loved the educational stuff they used to have.
Googled it and Murata Pearl Company dissolved in 1995. I seem to recall they had a store in Mission Valley and everything was drastically on sale, but still too pricey for me. Pity. Would have loved a pearl necklace or even a pair of earrings. Today I learned what Akoya pearls are. Wish I had known then.

Tomatoes!….Mother bullied my friend into planting her tomatoe plants 3 weeks ago…grunt!…Its been nothing but cold, wind and hail…sniff!…Cover the tomatoes, uncover the tomatoes…do it all over again. They look terrible right now…grumble!…Doubt we will get any good tomatoes this year because of that OLD LADY!…bah!
