Down in the Mine
I seemed to have gone off to one side a bit. Sometimes a patch of dirt interests me. This particular patch seemed a little less smooth than the rest of the mine floor. Not much of a reason to start digging, you might say, and I’d agree. Not that I was actually digging, more like just pawing around, and with only one of my front paws, not putting any force into it. But once, pawing around just like this, I’d pawed up an old silver spoon that we pawned at Mr. Singh’s for fifteen bucks! Not to mention a big helping of Mrs. Singh’s curried goat, a favorite of –
“Chet? What you got there?”
Me? Nothing. I knew at once that Bernie was hoping for another old silver spoon, and I hated to disappoint him, so I pawed a little harder and … what was this? I did feel a little something.
Bernie hunched down and shone the light into the small hole I’d made. The light glinted on a wire. A disappointment, certainly, but –
“Run!” Bernie shouted.

Good morning, friends! I am enjoying the new book too. Trying to make it last by not reading all night which is what I normally end up doing. A little over 1/2 done now. Need to finish it this week since I am taking my first vacation since restrictions were loosened. Flying to Michigan to see my brother and sister in law. Of course, I’ll have time to read on the plane hmmm…..

Good day to all! So glad that so many of us are enjoying OFA’s newest book.
It’s hard not to put it down. OFA, you are a rat for writing such great stories (just kidding). Wish there were more like you,
Keep it up, Spencer!

I just finished that part. Reminded me of some caves I’ve been in. One was up in the Sierra Nevada but didn’t go in very far. One was in Calico, CA but may or may not have been “original.” I also took a trip into the county and toured a local tourmaline mine. It was awesome. Cool. The smell of earth. But it got pitch black real fast.
I’m up to chapter eleven. About a third of the way.
I’ve been reading a chapter or two at night. It only takes a chapter or two for them to settle and drift off to sleep.
Freyja is doing well. I caught her in the act just pulling a selection and she stopped at her name and seemed to understand NO. She hasn’t tried lately. She actually slept in with Diana and me this morning. If I can get her to sleep in until 10am without chewing anything it will result in a more restful night’s sleep for me. I notice having the AC on helps to keep them both settled and snoozing. They do spend the day together; I see Freyja following Diana on her rounds. I know they both snooze on the north side during peak heat. I think Freyja has learned the feeding schedule and since she won’t get fed until about 10am there is no point in bugging me to get up at 6am and let her out. She still won’t be fed until 10 am. I have also been rewarding her with getting on the bed briefly for belly rubs and snuggles. That only happens when the sleep in. Flea meds are still not here so I don’t want her on the bed for very long. By the time the flea meds are here and they’ve taken effect, I will revisit both dogs on the bed. If they can both settle without any conflict, then we’re good to go. It’s why I have an olympic Queen. If I sleep in the middle they can both be next to me. I won’t even need to put on the heat in the winter.
