Detective Fiction

Yesterday in the comments, posting about detective fiction in general, Hobbit wrote:

“With successive books, the detective becomes more and more rich and famous–perhaps deservedly so but the books lose something in that scenario. I doubt if we have to worry about Bernie getting rich and buying fancy cars and a mansion. My guess.”

This is very shrewd! Especially re the books losing something. And the path of my likely solution.

More successful more money is what one expects. I don’t think that’s the way it always goes. That’s what makes Bernie so loveable, well, other than Chet.
    Good day to everyone!

    Very insightful Hobbit.

I just lost 3 Scrabble games in a row to Grizz. Sigh.

    Good afternoon to all!

I sense another money-losing adventure in store for Bernie. Or another Porsche totaled. Oh well, money comes in and money goes out; isn’t that the way of life for everyone?

I stayed up all night and read a book until 6:30 am when I turned to the last page. I haven’t done that in a long, long time. I was both pleased with myself and faulting myself for lack of discipline.

Another cold, sunny day up north. 9 degrees and windy.

It was -30 where I used to live this morning. I should be grateful for +9 but my sister is enjoying 73 degrees in southern California for the next three weeks.

Rio: it was The Glass Hotel c 2020 by Emily St. John Mandel who wrote Station Eleven. Told in multi-person perspectives; lots of threads that interweave in peoples’ lives off and on.

I thought I was done having vertigo but noooooo.
