Copyediting …

… wraps up today on It’s A Wonderful Woof, the C&B Christmas/holiday novel coming after Tender Is The Bite (“both available for preorder, your right to preorder guaranteed by the Constitution!” – Mrs. Publicist’s pushy mom). Last chance to make any important changes in the manuscript. What’s your guess? Do I make a lot of changes at this stage? Or not?

    Not many changes I’d say.

    Good day to all.

Very few changes at this point is my guess.

Has a grammatical error or a typo ever been found in a Chet and Bernie book? Or an error in research? I think not! I must admit it is one of my pet peeves to find errors in books. (It must drive B. Stover bonkers.) Another pet peeve is when in early books, the detective is starting out with little money but a lot of determination. With successive books, the detective becomes more and more rich and famous–perhaps deservedly so but the books lose something in that scenario. I doubt if we have to worry about Bernie getting rich and buying fancy cars and a mansion. My guess. heh

My guess is few changes but perhaps having fun with fine tuning.

Hobbit: I am wondering if Mr. Big has been admiring himself on the Plunder On! calendar… :^)

Wose: Mr. Big finally had his own celebration for being a calendar boy. It featured salmon. Coincidently he has now been cuddling me when I am in the recliner and showing up AM and PM to cuddle when I am in bed. He is one contented cat and is ever hopeful for more salmon in his future.

Hobbit: Mr. Big and Grizz have something in common…They both love salmon. Perhaps I will prepare salmon for Grizz’s dinner this weekend and I will receive some cuddles too. :^)

Do I have the best Attendant ever or wot? She served me red salmon which is the best of the five types of salmon.

Wose: I can attest that salmon puts me in the mood to cuddle so I am sure you will have the bestest weekend.

Attendant has said that I can’t have salmon every day as it is too rich for me to eat and too expensive for her to buy. Life is not fair.

Tree!…Guy!…grump!…The “tree guy” says he will be here Tuesday morning to finally cut down that damned Sic-a-more tree in the front yard…snort!grump!…My friend called him tonight and he is adamant that they will have the right equipment (not a lousy ladder) and will finish the job…right! I will have to see it to believe it by golly…whiffle!

Change!…The only Change Spencer needs to make is to add a Pug to the story. The Pug Hero who helps Chet when he is in dire trouble and then becomes Chet’s first best friend leaving Iggy in second place best friend…snort!

After all these months Sadie, Mr. Big and Chessie still do not understand how unsteady I am on my feet. My cane scares the cats so I try not to use it. When I am 6-legged with a walker, they look at me as if I am a complete stranger.

Sadie and Mr. Big are the worst offenders of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have managed to step on each of their tails at least once as I stagger across the floor. I guess it is a testimony to their loyalty that they want to be near me (and their food dishes) all day.

Rose!…Hobbits foto is a very good Calendar candidate don’t you think??…snorkel!

Walker!…When Beau lived here and Mother had to use a walker Beau would always be right under it…sniff!…He would walk as fast or slow as Mother did. But sometimes his timing was off and I could hear Mother cussing him to get away! Get Away!…But he would not. He stayed under that walker till she got to her destination. Then he came out from under it and tried to figure out where he had landed…heh!heh!

Depending on your initial accuracy, I’d say not many changes beyond spelling, grammar and punctuation.

I will praise all of the Chet and Bernie books as being close to pristine when it comes to spelling, grammar and punctuation. As a retired teacher I notice those sorts of things and they can distract me during reading and drive me a bit bonkers with the carelessness of editing. But not the C&B.

One thing that did bother me a bit in Of Mutts and Men was Chet eating a grape and then going to look for more. Grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs. While one grape or even a few isn’t going to have much effect on a hundred-pounder, it still bothers me a bit. And being a dog owner, I know Peter Abrams knows that too. There didn’t seem to be any reason for it either. That entire scene could have been written without Chet eating one grape.

What I don’t understand is how Bernie is still stuck with all those Hawaiian pants. Especially after visiting California and exposure to surfers and skate boarders. Just cut the pants off and make them into shorts. They’ll sell then.

What to do with the leftover pant legs? Haven’t figured that out yet, but I’m sure it will come to me.

As to where all that generated money goes? Well, I’m thinking it all goes into a college fund for Charlie. Bernie’s contribution. After all, it’s already been mentioned. The pants are gone and Bernie is still scraping by. But at least he doesn’t have the monthly rental on the storage unit to pay any more. Except for all those pant legs.

    Hmm.

Stuff them, tie up both ends and….dog toys?

RIO: I am glad Sadie doesn’t fit under a walker.

MLAILUPA: Interesting. I think Bernie will always have money problems because he is a bit of a gambler–tin futures anyone? And he is on car #3 I think. Chet also has mentioned Bernie losing checks that he carelessly stuffs into his pockets rather than his wallet. Bernie is also kind hearted so he will try to help his friends not to mention his expenses for Charlie.

Bernie doesn’t know how to market Hawaiian pants that is for sure and I don’t think people in Arizona are his target audience. After a few years now in storage in Arizona I am thinking that the material has degraded to some extent or chewed up by insects. Poor Bernie (in more ways than one).

I need to stop taking multiple naps during the day. I sleep too much but my bed is my go-to comfort place. I vow to stay out of bed this weekend and see how it goes.

    Good night all.
