Chetspeak on A Father’s Day Sunday

We rounded a corner and drew up behind a school bus. A kid in the back seat had turned around so he could see out the window.

“Hey!” said Bernie. “That looks like – “

Charlie! No doubt about it. There was Charlie’s round little face in the window, although maybe not as round or little as before. Also he had a new thing going on with his hair, a kind of sticking-up clump toward the back, a bit like an Indian feather. He looked great! Bernie leaned on the horn, kept leaning on it until finally Charlie lowered his gaze down to us. And then came an expression on his face that I can’t even begin to describe, so I’ll leave it like this: it was all about humans at their very best. Don’t see it every day, but when you do … well, you remember, and maybe cut them a little slack next time around the circuit. And I’m sure Charlie was happy about seeing Bernie, too. Let’s not leave that out.

Soon Charlie was waving at us, and then a bunch of kids were crowding around him, all of them waving their little hands. Bernie beeped the horn – beep beep beep. I did this high-pitched thing I can do, not a howl, really, more like a faraway train whistle, or maybe not that far away. The fun we were having! But then the bus pulled over, stopped by the side of the road. We stopped behind it. A gray-haired woman in a baseball cap appeared at the back of the bus, sunlight glaring off the lenses of her glasses. Her lips moved and all the kids except Charlie instantly disappeared from view. Charlie whipped around and faced front. The woman – had to be the driver, right? I was catching on fast – gave us a look, the corners of her mouth pointing straight down, and then strode back to the front of the bus.

We followed at a distance, Bernie and I at our very quietest, heads down. You wouldn’t have noticed us.

Good morning, everyone! What a great yet bittersweet Chetspeak for Father’s Day. Did the celebration for the DDD yesterday along with the adopted son and s-i-l. Mom’s doing BBQ burgers, baked beans and tater salad for him tonight (hold the salad for us, thank you very much). Happy Egg Day but mom gave us bacon instead. Why not both we ask?
Enjoy the last Sunday of Spring 🙂

Happy Father’s Day to All. We are expecting 96-100+ degree temps here, so we’re all planning to maintain low profiles and minimal energy use whie the Sun’s high in the sky. Fortunately, Edgar, Pretty and I all had a nice little outing early this a.m. while it was still relatively cool. There may or may not be eggs in the offing later today.

Father! We have been told that our father, Tenzing gave the Giant and our Lady a run for their money in his younger days. That kind of hijinx must skip a generation. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers that come in many forms.

Our Lady made it to DC, but before she left she wrote the following message on the board in the kennel:

Luna is in charge while I’m away.

Greetings everyone, and happy father’s day to those of the child/puppy/kitten/or any other rearing persuasion.
We did a full day event for Gramp, starting with breakfast at his favorite bakery, and just getting home a little bit ago. He has had a good day, complete with the requisite new shirts and ties, and his requested dinner tonight will be steak and asparagus.
As it happens, this is also his 85th birthday.
And he is younger than any of us, if you go by his actions.

I am in a very bad mood, and not because I do not have a prairie dog. There has been a water main break here in my neck of the woods. No running water, no cooking, no bathroom!

Happy Father’s Day to all the other dads. Happy birthday Al! My favorite daughter and I are on a train headed home…it’s gonna be a long night, I’m here to tell ya! Hilde’s having a snooze. Smart girl. The Nields were just as fantastic as I expected them to be, or even more. Coolest thing ever. Katryna’s oldest, Amelia, has a band of her own, which opened last night. Not just that, but at one point, the Nields, Kalliope Jones (Amelia’s band), *and* all the other of Katryna’s and Nerissa’s kids were up on stage playing and singing together. So glad we were able to make this trip, and also to have got to meet Plunderers. Now…hmm…what kind of excuse can we come up with for another trip to meet more?

Rose, You bath without submerging your body in a tub. You can use a sponge or washcloth to “sponge off”. People used to do that daily and then take a bath once or twice a week, before indoor plumbing. At least that is what I have read. Better than nothing.
