Beginnings (More)
September 23rd, 2018 Posted 8:42 am
On Sundays we’ve been doing beginnings – all the Peter Abrahams books in chronological order, including those written under the Spencer Quinn pen name. Here from 2014 – #32, PAW AND ORDER, seventh in the Chet and Bernie series (and second one on their road trip). C&B find themselves in that very dangerous place, Washington D.C.
[“Both smart and funny”
– Booklist]
We blasted out of bayou country, Bernie behind the wheel, me in the shotgun seat. Our ride’s a real old Porsche, the oldest we’ve had in our whole career. The last one got blown up; the one before that went off a cliff. And who can remember the one before that? Not me, amigo, except for how loud train whistles turn out to be from up real close. The point is old Porsches are how we roll at the Little Detective Agency, just one of the things that makes us so successful, leaving out the finances part, where we’ve run into some hiccups I won’t go into now. And don’t get me started on hiccups, which is the annoying thing about them, namely that you can’t stop. What else do you need to know? Bernie’s last name is Little, which is how come we’re the Little Detective Agency. I’m Chet, pure and simple.

DC Addendum
May 3rd, 2016 Posted 8:28 am
Admin: You left something out about last weekend?
Spence: Something big! I got to ride in the official Wookiemobile!
Admin: Behind the wheel?
Spence: Well, no. Wouldn’t have been appropriate. But I can say that the hot wings cooker in the back seat was completely refurbished.
Admin: Sounds like an alternate universe.
Spence: Always a good choice!

Paw and Order (Corrected!)
November 26th, 2013 Posted 8:46 am
“Anything you can tell us about the next Chet and Bernie mystery, Paw and Order?” Admin says.
“Besides the fact that the title is the easiest to remember since Dog On it?”
“Well,” says Spence, “if you remember the last book, The Sound and the Furry, ended with Chet and Bernie about to leave Louisiana and head for home. In Paw and Order they reach a crossroads – turn left for home but right for Washington DC where Suzie, Bernie’s girlfriend, works as a reporter. Bernie is struck by an idea.”
“And then?”
“And then a whole adventure starts happening.”
Welcome TipToe.
A mistake in the first version of this post? Yes, and a doozie! Our only excuse is that we’re rushing to get ready for a flight that will almost certainly be delayed. But speaking to a broader issue, every single post here on this blog is written by Spence or Admin, almost always in concert.

Title Contest! Announcement!
October 30th, 2013 Posted 8:46 am
The seventh (!) Chet and Bernie mystery (Fall 2014) takes place in Washington, D.C. The Little Detective Agency gets caught up in a lethal conspiracy with international implications that reaches the highest levels of power. A perfect title for this story would have been The Dog Who Came in from the Cold. But it’s already taken! (By Alexander McCall Smith.) Any suggestions out there? Email spencerquinntitles@gmail.com with your creative title ideas in the subject line between 10/30 and 11/13. There’s potentially something in it for you if we pick your idea. Potentially. And what’s more fun to contemplate than potential?
Welcome Little David.
