(Not all presidents, just the two best. Although wasn’t it better when Abe and George had their own days? Nothing to be done – the future marches on, eyes closed.) Here’s something from Washington’s farewell address. Makes one think.

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.

“Let’s wish everyone a happy Presidents Day,” Spence says.

“But it’s actually Washington’s birthday, or close,” says Admin. “What happened to Lincoln’s birthday? It used to get its own holiday.”

“So you’re for more public holidays?” Spence says.

“I didn’t say that.”

“But I’m happy to,” says Spence. “More holidays! Life shouldn’t be work and nothing but.”

“Heard of globalization?” Admin says. “You’re too late.”

“Maybe and maybe not.”

“Twice in our history,” says Admin, “when we absolutely had to have greatness we got it.”

“You’re talking about Washington and Lincoln?” Spence says.

“Correct. I’ll say no more. But somehow we missed the death of Al Berard last February. He was a wonderful musician hailing from down where WOOF takes place. R.I.P.”
