“Did you see the New York Times Magazine cover story yesterday?” Admin says. “The late Uga VII is in it.”

“Can The Bulldog Be Saved?, by Benoit Denizet-Lewis?” says Spence. “Yup, I read it.”

“And?”

“It raises really important issues about dogs and us. I’m wondering if any of our blog readers saw it and have some thoughts.”

Welcome Beau the General, Jim, Roxy.

RIP – UGA VII

Sad news today. Uga VII – Roman numerals, Bernie says, for 7, I’ll take his word for that – died of heart problems on Thursday. Uga VII was a bulldog, and also the mascot of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, as was his father, Uga VI. Uga VII was only four years old and had been the mascot for less than 2 seasons. His record was 16-7. He’ll be interred in a mausoleum inside Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia, with all the other mascots that came before him. Mascot is a very good job, by the way, but maybe not quite as good as mine. I always liked watching Uga VII on TV. He had a very cool walk.

So the Bulldogs will be playing without a mascot tonight. They’re at home against Kentucky in an SEC match-up (Bernie says SEC football is the best.)

Win one for Uga VII, boys!
