Ta-Da! Song For Chet Video

June 25th, 2019 Posted 12:12 pm

And now, a big moment in our lives: The Song For Chet video. This is kind of like the Friend of the Month, but super-sized. To everyone who sent in video clips, thank you a thousand times. We’ve had so much fun and pleasure watching them! And if you spot your member of the nation within, please tag and share! Share anyway!

As for the song itself, it comes directly from Heart of Barkness, publishing a week from today and still preorderable with the special promotion that includes the new short story, Upper Story

Song for Chet is an original song written by me Peter Abrahams, Robert Edwards and Mitch Watkins. The beautiful fiddle solo is played by the great Gene Elders. My very first song! I really can’t believe it. I can’t thank the multi-talented musician and composer Mitch Watkins enough; Lucy Carson has been so smart and helpful throughout; and to Bob Edwards, who made the video, produced the song, and thought of the whole idea the moment he heard there was a song lyric in the book: my deepest gratitude. Thanks also to our friends at Muttville on whose youtube channel the video appears.

Many Thanks …

Deadline Looming!

June 6th, 2019 Posted 8:18 am

Deadline coming up!
Do you have a canine friend who was born to be a star? Of course you do—anyone can see there’s natural talent in that wagging tail! We’re holding open auditions for our world premiere of the “Song For Chet” music video, where we’ll be sharing an original country song written exclusively for HEART OF BARKNESS, by Spencer Quinn, in partnership with our publisher Tor/Forge and our good friends over at Muttville who rescue and shelter senior dogs.
For the chance to have footage of your pup included, simply record a short video of them doing their usual amazing, wonderful or loving things, with you or solo, or maybe with their canine pals, and email it over to us at along with the following information: your name, your pup’s name, the city and state where you live. Your submission must be an original video that you’ve personally created and which you fully own (no repurposed internet clips!) and to qualify, you should avoid any logos or trademarked images in the background. If you use your cell phone camera, it’s recommended that you hold it horizontally, but if you already have some wonderful footage of you and your 4-legged pal, send it to us no matter what the shape!
Winning clips will be edited for inclusion in our “Song For Chet” music video, which will premiere during the last week of June– so get cracking! The deadline for all submissions is Friday, June 7th at 5pm EST. And here’s a link to the disclaimer:
