Rain!

So here’s some rain from THE RIGHT SIDE:

“This seat taken?”

LeAnne turned, had to twist practically all the way around to get this person in her field of view. A smiling man, dressed in clean, pressed clothes, freshly-shaved, short hair wet with rain. She shrugged. He took the aisle seat. The bus pulled away from wherever they were. Raindrops slid horizontally across the glass, and pelted the roof hard, like gunshots. She felt the man shift in his seat, sensed that he was looking down at the floor on her side, where her feet, shod in Marci’s red sneaks, rested on the duffel.

“You in the Army?” he said.

LeAnne nodded, facing straight ahead.

“Thank you for your service.”

She didn’t respond. The bus rolled on. The sliding raindrops sped up and the overhead barrage grew louder. LeAnne tried to sleep, knew that sleep was the best answer at this moment, but she was way too wound up. She twisted around to the man.

“What would you know?”

“Haven’t had rain in some time,” Spence. “Nice to hear it on the roof.”

“For the rain it raineth every day,” says Admin.

“Er, right, Shakespeare,” says Spence. “But my point was it hasn’t exactly been rainething every day.”

“What if Shakespeare had grown up in Yuma, Arizona, say? Do you think he would have still written that line?”

“I think his life would have been different in general.”

Note: Still working on a fix for the Friends gallery. No uploading possible at this time.

“Still raining out there?” says Spence.

“For the rain it raineth every day,” Admin says.

“Where’s that from again?”

“Twelfth Night – the fool’s last song, closes the play.”

“Over four hundred years old now.”

“Yup.”

“Do you think that anything being written or performed these days will still be popular like Twelfth Night in say, 2412?”

“Ha.”

It’s raining in paradise, wherever that may be. This seems to bother the humans a lot. “We came all this way,” and stuff like that. I myself love the rain – I’m soaking wet this very moment, and lying on a nice soft couch in the pool house. It hardly ever rains in the Valley. I’m feeling tip top.

“Let’s see if we can round up some of the island coffee,” Spence says. “Anyone seen Chet?”

I take a big stretch. I can feel a yawn on the way.
