Paperback Row
March 24th, 2022 Posted 7:54 am
I hear from readers who likes to wait for the paperback. All the Chet and Bernie novels are available in paperback except for the last two, Tender Is The Bite and It’s A Wonderful Woof – which will be published in paperback when their turns roll around. Meanwhile this makes Of Mutts And Men the most recent C&B in pb. Let’s open it randomly and, ah! Some noirish action to start the day:
CRACK!
A lovely sound. Bang on the chinny-chin-chin. Florian’s eyes fluttered up, his eyelids fluttered down, he toppled backward, and I soared right over him. The knife clattered down on the floor. Bernie picked it up.
“That’s not the way to attack with a knife,” he said. “First of all, you hold it like so. And the motion is this, not that.” Bernie demonstrated the motions. Who for? Florian was out cold on the cabin floor and I had no need for knives or weapons of any kind. I was … a weapon all by myself! What a thought! Did you get smarter as life went along? Something to look forward to.

Mrs. Publicist Steps In

Hi, everybody! Mrs. P here. I noticed the following in a five star review of It’s A Wonderful Woof, the most recent Chet and Bernie novel: “Normally I wait for the paperback of a series to be published, but with Chet and Bernie I have to get the hardback. End of story (as Chet would say).”
Very nice to see, but for those of you who stick to your paperback guns, the most recent C&B in paperback is Of Mutts And Men. For newcomers to the series, you could always start there! The series – I very recently learned – is written in the continuous present, and thus (if I got this right) can be read in any order! Did you know there’s a Proustian way of looking at the narration in C&B? And that in many respects it conforms to the literary theories of Viktor Shklovsky? Tell that to your highfalutin friends!

Now In Paperback!

Have I mentioned that Of Mutts And Men, the most recent Chet and Bernie (a-series-that-can-be-read-in-any-order™), is now available in paperback? A convenient format for beach reading. Also hammock reading. Meanwhile Kim H.M. sends the following photo and this note:
“So, I’m a high school teacher , guess what one of my students wore to school today?!? HAWAIIAN PANTS!”
As C&B readers know, of course, Hawaiian pants spell financial ruin.
