Back to reader questions. Rebecca Shull Compton writes:
“Is the previously mentioned gingerbread house really made of baked goods? Is it life-size? Are Hansel and Gretel there?”
Here is part of the relevant scene from Up On The Woof Top, coming Oct. 17 and now preorderable in hardcover and audio:

Wedding? What wedding was this? But before I could even get started on any of that, a woman of perhaps Bernie’s age or a little younger, stepped out from behind an enormous gingerbread house, so big I could perhaps have squeezed myself inside – although I doubt there’ll be time to go into what happened to it later in the evening – and said, “Were you just talking to this gorgeous dog?”
“Well, yes,” Bernie said.
“That’s so sweet. Is it a he or a she?”
That was a stunner.

Anyone in the mood for a little taste of Up On The Woof Top, the next Chet and Bernie novel (Oct. 17, preorders welcome). It’s a Christmas/holiday story. And with that, take it away:
Had I ever heard such a thing? Maybe I’d imagined it. Maybe I was actually asleep and dreaming. What an amazing thought! I considered nipping at the heels of this woman as a sort of test to find out if this was all a dream, but before I could get going on that I got distracted by the big smile on Bernie’s face, like he was enjoying himself. How could he enjoy himself after what he’d just heard? That was the moment I got – what would you call it? The inspiration? Yes, close enough. My inspiration concerning the gingerbread house.
