Friend of the Month Reminder

Last day of the month already! And a leap day! Do leap days prove Einstein right? Wrong? Or have nothing to do with the Big E? My how space/time flies, as he used to say. Were you aware that while nothing in the universe can exceed the speed of light, the universe itself can? Think about that! But more important, today is the last day to send in a photo for Chet’s March Friend of the Month contest! All you have to do is post a pic to Chet’s FB page, preferably not in comments. The random number generator (below) does the rest. Winner becomes the profile pic for the month (where Coco is now) and the human companion gets a signed copy of the latest Chet and Bernie novel, Heart of Barkness. Plus this month – a special bonus prize!

“Last day of the month,” Spence says. “Last day for uploading a photo into the Friends of Chet gallery if you want to be eligible for Friend of the Month. Friend of the Month gets to be prominently displayed where Raksha is now, and the human companion receives a signed copy of the latest Chet and Bernie mystery, in this case The Dog Who Knew Too Much. The random number generator – if we can get it put back together – makes the decision. This month sure went fast, Admin. Do you think time can actually speed up?”

“Relatively?” says Admin. “Yes. Einstein proved that. And also slow down. Maybe if you reached the speed of light you could just about stop it, but you can never reach the speed of light, because as you go faster your mass increases, slowing you down.”

“So to lose weight go slow?”

“Don’t think it works that way.”

“How was the eye appointment?” says Admin.

“Good,” says Spence. “They left me alone in the room for a few minutes and the chart on the wall was lit, so I had time to memorize all the way down to the 20/15 line.”

“Nice job,” Admin says. “Your editor called when you were out. I took the liberty of having a little discussion.”

“Oh?”

“All about E-books. When Dog On It came out E-books hadn’t really gotten any traction. That’s changing fast. So how do people who like to read E-style find out about the series?”

“Huh?”

“I suggest we ask people at the blog what form they read the books in now, and whether the ones who aren’t E are considering switching.”

“And then what?”

“Slice and dice the data. Basic science. Have you been reading about dark energy, by the way?”

“No.”

“Turns out Einstein was right even when he was wrong.”

“Do you think he’d have been an E-type?”
