The day after Christmas is called Boxing Day in the UK, Canada, and some other countries. But why? Is it about the Boxer Rebellion? Or because after too much proximity, families end up in fisticuffs? Or because the house is full of empty boxes?

… is called Boxing Day in the UK and some former colonies. Is it because sparring five or six rounds with a family member or for pounding on the heavy bag is a good way to combat the eating and drinking excesses of the day before? That’s our working theory.

“Did you know today is called Boxing Day in the UK and some other countries?” Spence says.

“Kinda,” says Admin. “Why?”

“No clue.”

“Here are three possibilities. One, it’s about the Boxer rebellion. Two, after too much proximity, families end up in fisticuffs. Three, the house is full of empty boxes.”

“I think it’s two.”
