Swords and Blood

Bernie’s still talking about this inauguration thing, whatever that was. He got a book – “Lincoln’s Sword – a great book, Chet,” and held it up. No sword on the cover, just a picture of a scary-looking bearded dude. I know swords, once even saw a sword in action, on a case that turned out not too well if I remember, which I actually don’t. Anyway, Bernie had a bourbon or two and said, “I’m going to memorize the second inaugural if it kills me.” Then came a whole evening of muttering and mumbling, and finally he stood and said, “All set? Here goes.” And off he went in this weird voice and then guess what. A sword came in after all, something about every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword. Not sure what that meant, but it got my attention, better believe it. I know about the lash, maybe a story for another day. But the point  is it’s always nice to see Bernie having fun. I barked. He gave me a pat.
