“It’ll be all right,” says Spence.

“Heh heh.”

“Hear you were at a party last night,” Admin says. “Hope you weren’t the last one out of there.”

“Not close.”

“What did you drink?”

“Red wine. A malbec, I think.”

“Meet anybody?”

“Kirstie Alley. She’s got a book coming out.”

“Publishing biz. Gotta love it.”

Welcome Tova.

Here are Spence’s 3 choices for the Association of American Publishers top 3 desert island books question. Although one of the choices is a trilogy, so maybe it’s 5.

For Whom the Bell Tolls – Ernest Hemingway

The Sword of Honor Trilogy – Evelyn Waugh

Rogue Male – Geoffrey Household (a great thriller with lots of survival info)

“You’re headed to BEA this week?” says Admin.

“Book Expo America,” Spence says. “At the Javits Center.”

“Don’t get lost in there.”

“Also there’s a video with the Association of American Publishers. One of the questions apparently is about what three books you’d want if stranded on a desert island.”

“‘How To Survive on a Desert Island,’ ‘Boat Building 101,’ ‘Navigation for Dummies.'”

“Not sure that’s what they’re after,” Spence says. “I wonder what suggestions we’ll get in the Down Under section.”

Welcome Kade.
