Here are Dottie and Pearl in a blizzard last winter. Like Audrey, now gone but not in our memory, Dottie is half Bernese, half golden retriever, although somewhat bigger than Audrey.

Yesterday

Was not a good day. Audrey, our 15-year-old beloved canine companion and family member, was suddenly taken ill. The news from the vet was bad. Audrey’s back home now, not in pain, but with not much time remaining. So many of you must know this feeling. But we will use this remaining time to celebrate her life while she’s still with us, and be grateful for the opportunity.

Audrey – seen on the flaps of number of book jackets – somehow broke her rear right tibia and had to have a plate inserted. She turns out to be the kind of convalescent who has a strong desire to be rompin’ and stompin’ immediately.
