Good morning, everyone! See Dawson, the ‘maters were real 🙂 Sorry that there is no Chetspeak but we’ll always have Egg Day. Good to hear the friend got to AK safely and to have Nana there too…another Plunderfest West (mini-style).
Have a safe, sunny, scrumptious last Sunday of August 🙂
9:37 am on August 31st, 2014
I wonder if the tomato was eaten in salad last night. Lovely picture.
Good morning all.
9:52 am on August 31st, 2014
Good Egg Day all.
So happy that everyone made it to Alaska!
What great looking people in that photo! No tomatoes thrown….
10:04 am on August 31st, 2014
Billy’s Buddy–No, in fact SQ now has his own to throw if need be (but better eaten, probably).
HOH–Another great photo!
Hmm…maybe this can be egg and tomato day…
All in Alaska, longing to hear of what adventures transpire.
Thieves–Awaiting another installment.
A Happy Day to all. I’m going back to bed for a bit.
10:17 am on August 31st, 2014
HOH: Well look at your mom, up top with Spence and his tomato! Very nice picture! Like the picture over to the right too, with very young C&B readers.
Waiting for pictures from Alaska!
10:19 am on August 31st, 2014
Maybe be Spence and Mrs Spence are using that tomato for today’s breakfast….tossed salad and scrambled eggs!
10:25 am on August 31st, 2014
Wose et al, there was more than one tomato…lots of grape tomatoes and one big mystery ‘mater. Mrs. Spence just handed him one for the foto.
10:44 am on August 31st, 2014
Good morning all. Great picture of Spence and Sharon.
Also a very good picture of Spence with the two young mothers and babes over on the right.
Started the day doing some wallpapering in main bath. Decided I was too cheap to hire it done (two week paycheck=wallpaper guy for 1 day).
Looking forward to a bunch of Plunderer photos later on.
10:52 am on August 31st, 2014
HOH: That is a great picture of you with OFA and tomato! I’m glad you did not throw those tomatoes. By the way, is that a Snowhook Kennels tote bag?
Nana has been in Alaska for days without spilling the beans!? Way to go Nana, you sly dog! So glad you made it up North!
Rio’s friend must’ve been shocked to see Rio in Alaska! Heh, heh! Me too, if I’m honest.
Hope puppy Quill and Sadie had an uneventful night.
DianeC: Summer vacation is fleeting.
11:02 am on August 31st, 2014
Dawson, what sharp eyes you have. It is indeed a Snowhook bag (WE don’t have an ID badge so the bag made sense).
Diane and mom were comparing fotos this a.m. and have decided they could be twins…large specs, similar face shapes and hair that looks like rats chewed it in their sleep 🙂 Mom has sworn not to share her foto on the blog. Here’s a hint, though: make mom’s hair a bit reddish, make the glasses brown and make the shirt black and white and..presto! TWINS!
11:25 am on August 31st, 2014
Good morning, and Happy Egg and Tomato Day!
Good to know Nana is Way Up North at The Hobbit Hotel with The Friend.
HOH, we don’t think Spence knew you were thinking about throwing those tomatoes!
And once again, we cannot follow HOH’s last post. Is it us, or have we not seen HOH’s mom’s photo on this blog, including up to today, many times?
11:26 am on August 31st, 2014
That was supposed to say “up TOP today”.
11:31 am on August 31st, 2014
OH, meant that Diane doesn’t want her foto here. Sorry for our confusing style.
11:40 am on August 31st, 2014
The Diane referred to is Spence’s wife correct?
11:43 am on August 31st, 2014
HOH: Earlier I was going to complement your hair.
11:50 am on August 31st, 2014
We want the Alaskan Plunder Partiers to wake up and tell us all.
Personally, we have been up since dawn cracked. Little Miss GillyFlower had an upset tummy, and “shared” her discomfort…all over the sofa, the floor, her bed, etc. It’s back to rice and chicken for a puppy for a few days.
11:50 am on August 31st, 2014
Stover, no DianeC in reference to the fotos. Mrs. Spence is a very grand and beautiful lady.
Dawson, we’ll take any compliment.
Nana, CHobbit and Friend: Get up you lazy bones. Feed and scratch Sadie, Quill and Rio and go, Go, GO!
11:52 am on August 31st, 2014
T&G, we posted at the same time with similar words for the Alaska group! More twinniness going around today 🙂
11:53 am on August 31st, 2014
Those Alaskans will be sleeping in today, except Masquers, if he’s there, and Rio who will be wanting to go out! out! out, and Sadie and Quill who will want to come in! in! in, and Nana who will need food! food! food! Come to think of it, there will be very little rest for anyone at the Hobbit Hotel.
I am collecting seeds for next years flowers. Already I have a couple unlabeled and unrecognizable. Sheesh!
11:54 am on August 31st, 2014
Gillyflower, you get better, soon. Little Darah Thea had tummy issues last Sunday (only because she stole a chicken bone from the boarder in the basement).Sometimes we think that girl got her eating habits from sweet old Franklin 🙁
12:08 pm on August 31st, 2014
Howlers, we often have trouble understanding Sharon’s comments. We thought she was talking about Mrs. Spence, once we figured out that she wan’t referring to herself.
Time for a little lawn mowing torture, then lunch.
Wake up Alaskans! We are in need of news.
12:16 pm on August 31st, 2014
Dawson–I have seeds which I cannot plant due to drought-related considerations. I’m not sure what’s in the pkg, but would you like them?
HOH–Confusing posts and more twinny stuff.
Ms. Wose? Are you still here?
Where are the thieves?
12:27 pm on August 31st, 2014
HOH’s Mom: We must be twins because I always “get” exactly what you are saying!
12:31 pm on August 31st, 2014
Rio’s friend and Nana are still snoozing I guess. I hear no sounds from downstairs. Today we will go visit Mick and Jodi. Mick says that the menu is Hot Wings and Beer–and SHINE. Rio will be in 7th Heaven.
I got an email saying another guest is arriving. I am off to check and see who it is. Stay tuned.
12:31 pm on August 31st, 2014
I am confused bye the diane’s also. I think I will go upstairs and look at my empty quilt room. Or maybe take a nap. I had cereal for breakfast so maybe I need eggs for lunch.
or something, yawn.
12:44 pm on August 31st, 2014
Ha ha Staff, you are acting just like Catty today. Her tummy is kind of upset and I hope she won’t do like the Gillyflower.
Speaking of flowers and seeds -does anyone want seeds for pink hollyhocks, grow well in zone 5?
12:46 pm on August 31st, 2014
We here are having a chicken-feta burger and sliced tomatoes. Yum.
Half way thru the new Andy Carpenter book. A fun reading experience as usual. A nap seems to be on the schedule for after lunch.
12:48 pm on August 31st, 2014
Hobbit – Who, who, who? Inquiring Corgis have to know!
12:55 pm on August 31st, 2014
Barb – we have been forgetting to tell you; we are now getting red tomatoes, at last. The farmer who sold us plants really had some confusion issues. Almost nothing we thought we were buying has turned out to be what we were actually buying.
We though we had:
2 cherry tomatoes, one a Sungold, one a red
4 regular tomatoes, a Beefsteak, and Early Girl, a yellow and another kind of red
1 bush cucumber
1 bush zucchini
What we actually got was:
1 red cherry tomato
1 red and black heirloom
4 plain old tomato tomatoes
1 trailing pickle cucumber
1 mutant squash that turned out to be hubbard
We love the flavor of the heirloom tomato, but everything else has been kind of a disappointment. We haven’t cut up a hubbard yet, they are supposed to “season” off the vine for a couple of months. But the cucumbers were terrible, and we really missed getting Sungold cherries. Oh well. Next year.
12:59 pm on August 31st, 2014
DianeC: Thanks. I do already have seeds from 3 gardens: Mine, cousin Elly’s and mother-in-law’s.
Also, you would have to follow onerous A – Z regulations from Border Security. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/plants/seeds/imports/abcs-of-importation/eng/1347740952226/1347741389113#c
1:02 pm on August 31st, 2014
That farmer better start labeling his seeds! I hope he didn’t try to sell you any forget-me-nots!
1:09 pm on August 31st, 2014
Heh, heh. It looks like a certain cat missed Nana and followed her to Alaska. The email was informing me that I received a package on Saturday. I hadn’t checked my mail yesterday so I went and did it this morning. Can’t wait for the Hobbit guests to wake up. Maybe I should start frying bacon and fixing coffee.
Quill and Sadie are doing fine. They slept on the deck with only a couple of barks all nite. Quill does not want to be alone and is happy and quiet when Sadie is with him. I tried to take Sadie for a walk this morning but Quill was too vocal about it so we didn’t get far.
Ooo…I hear stirring from downstairs.
1:36 pm on August 31st, 2014
Nice photo this morning.
HOH, My mom likes your shirt.
Good to know where Nana is. I am so glad she made the trip to Alaska.
I am not sure where Rio is but would someone please get the message to him that the Rockies won yesterday. I know his Friend made it to Alaska, but did Rio?
1:44 pm on August 31st, 2014
What’s all this? We were making people laugh while we were living our lives? Does it get any better than this? Youse tell us.
About Rio making it north to Alaska (with the help of Mama), we’ll he did make it here. But, we may overshot his landing. Such language!
1:55 pm on August 31st, 2014
Those who are Way Up orth always wake up so darn late for us East Coasters’ just as we go too bed way darn early.
How did Masquers get there? Is he playing jazz yet?
2:04 pm on August 31st, 2014
Sputter!…Spit!…Where the hell am I?….grump!!
2:09 pm on August 31st, 2014
CHobbit: Bacon! If you cook it they will come.
Did MamaLuna help the Herbs and Tupper&Gilly box Rio up and send him to Alaska?!
Is that why Gilly Flowers is sick? She ate some of Rio’s hot wings?
Wake up and smell the bacon!
2:17 pm on August 31st, 2014
Bacon!….sniff!sniff!…I do not smell any bacon….grunt!…I am outside and I am not very happy with those Thieves…grumble!….I want some of that bacon!
2:58 pm on August 31st, 2014
Who knew that the Hobbit Hotel had indoor trees? Masquers is one happy cat!
3:00 pm on August 31st, 2014

Never ever believe them when they promise to take you somewhere….grump!
3:13 pm on August 31st, 2014
Math time: If we have 1 canine and 1 feline happy: does that make a cafe? Just asking.
3:14 pm on August 31st, 2014
Masquers! You are there too? What a party it will be at Mick and Jody’s place harmonica, cool jazz, SHINE, and don’t forget beer for the cook My lips are smacking on their own thinking about that Apple Pie. Mmmm good stuff.
3:18 pm on August 31st, 2014
Yark! Where am I? Rio?
3:24 pm on August 31st, 2014
Rio, if The Thieves are still with you, maybe you are at the little cabin at the Kennel?
3:24 pm on August 31st, 2014
Leaving animals at home to get into trouble. We are off to sightsee! There will probably be a lot of photos tonight so those of you who go to bed early, check back on this blog date in the morning! I am taking my Smart Phone and mini iPad so may post periodically during the day.
3:35 pm on August 31st, 2014
Yes, we overshot the landing on an account of excitement and a lot of snorting and wiggling—and maybe some swearing—on the part of our cargo. We have been trying to figure out how to get Rio down, down, down from the top of the birdhouse outside of the outhouse.

Rio blends in with nature.
4:46 pm on August 31st, 2014
Dawson–Oooh–I keep forgetting about International borders. (Doesn’t really seem like a foreign country. Until someone offers you fries with gravy…)
Thieves–Overjoyed to hear more of the current adventure while working on last-minute stuff. Thank you so much!
(Whispering–I think Mrs. Spence has regular girl hair and her name is Diana rather than Diane–though I could be wrong)
4:56 pm on August 31st, 2014
I think you are correct about her name being Diana.
T & G, Glad you are getting red tomatoes finally. I really think the dark colored heirlooms have the most intense flavor. They are called black varieties, but they are more of a dark purple-red.
DIL planted some butternut squash which we are going to try this fall. After all the talk about freezing corn yesterday I stopped at my favorite farm stand, which sells non-GMO sweet corn. He is going to have corn for another 4 weeks, so I am going to buy a doz ears and freeze some. I have about 16 pints of tomatoes done, and am going to do some green beans too.
I was totally surprised about Nana going to Hobbits. She certainly kept a secret! I didn’t even pick up on Hobbit’s comment about her being there.
5:36 pm on August 31st, 2014
How could you not believe this face?

Love Basil’s talk about Rio on the bird house. How do they do it?
6:01 pm on August 31st, 2014
Basil: You are making me laugh!
RIO! You are one lucky pug! Not once, but twice in this year you have made the trip to Alaska!
Masquers: I am so happy that you were able to make the trip!
6:14 pm on August 31st, 2014
All y’all are cracking us up…and we thought mom’s stories of Spencer and Lady Di we something else.
6:15 pm on August 31st, 2014
Not ‘we”..WERE..
6:25 pm on August 31st, 2014
We have having some wicked storms here, with heavy rain. Meashka was in The Shirt for a while, but the storms are gone for now. More are expected later.
The ‘rents just had an amazing smelling dinner. Mom made pesto with some fresh-picked basil. She cooked up a whole box of rotini. Pop sauteed red, green, and orange peppers from the garden, along with Bendy Brook spicy Italian sausage, and some ‘shrooms. Then they mixed all of that wonderful smelling stuff all together. They only ate half. Was the other half served to us us us? Of course not. They are keeping it for a quick dinner Tuesday evening before Pop’s Planning Commission meeting.
6:43 pm on August 31st, 2014
OH you poor abused things, we feel your pain 🙁
6:53 pm on August 31st, 2014
Howlers, we here are doing sauteed peppers, too. We are mixing them with onion and topping a small steak and then adding grated asiago cheese. Some fresh green beans and, of course, a sliced tomato.
6:57 pm on August 31st, 2014
B&M, to heck with OH, your dinner sounds scrumptious!
7:29 pm on August 31st, 2014
We had pork chops stuffed with garlic, rosemary ciabatta bread cubes. Does that get any rave reviews?
7:51 pm on August 31st, 2014
Onions! We forgot to mention the onions from our garden that were sauteed with the peppers and sausage amd ‘shrooms!
7:57 pm on August 31st, 2014
T&G: Are there any leftovers?
8:00 pm on August 31st, 2014
Nope. Those selfish two-leggeds hogged the whole thing. All we got was some lousy peas.

Thank you, HOH. Actually, everyone’s dinners sound fantastic.
Wonder what is going on up north.
8:18 pm on August 31st, 2014
Peas and Carrots??? Are Tupper and Gilly vegetarians?
8:18 pm on August 31st, 2014
Help! We had to ask our Lady to help us get Rio down from his perch. He was getting hungry. We tried to feed him by tossing Slim Jims up at him, but they mainly just hit him on the head and fell to the ground.
8:24 pm on August 31st, 2014
Ask your Lady for straws and shoot peas to him. T & G seem to like them.
8:45 pm on August 31st, 2014
I like Scout’s idea!
8:56 pm on August 31st, 2014
Heh, heh, heh.Would like fotos of that.
9:07 pm on August 31st, 2014
T&G: Peas…GAH! I hope you have the ASPCA on speed dial. If not , just ask LouLou.
9:14 pm on August 31st, 2014
The Giant could get Rio off that perch, pronto!
9:21 pm on August 31st, 2014
Wose, I am having more dog abuse. Sammie and I are going to her girls college tomorrow. First I was at Sammies while mommy went away to Corning. Now I have Sammie here and I love her to pieces. Tomorrow I have got to make that phone call for dog abuse.
9:22 pm on August 31st, 2014
Loulou is so upset about everything she can’t even find her own avatar.
10:02 pm on August 31st, 2014
Poor Loulou. How is Sammie doing on her weight control?
Now we are saying goodnight.
10:28 pm on August 31st, 2014
Where are our pictures?!?!?
At every Plunder Party, we all get yelled at by Rio for not posting enough pictures. And now, what do we have but Rio and his Friend at a party and NO GRUFFLIN’ PICTURES!
11:30 pm on August 31st, 2014
Grump!
11:34 pm on August 31st, 2014
Double grump!
12:08 am on September 1st, 2014
Quadruple grump.
Mr.Staff told us there was an over 5 point earthquake in Fairbanks tonight. Now Fairbanks is far far away from Anchorage…(360 miles) but still, I am blaming Rio! He probably fell off that pole and caused it. What a pug of lard!
12:11 am on September 1st, 2014
Quadruple grump.
Mr.Staff told us there was an over 5 point earthquake in Fairbanks last night. Now Fairbanks is far far away from Anchorage…(360 miles) but still, I am blaming Rio! Rio and the Thieves. He probably landed really hard when he wiggled and they dropped him.. What a pug of lard!

oops. I thought it wasn’t posted! The second one is better. Don’t read the first one.
2:55 am on September 1st, 2014
Ha, ha. No fotos. I can briefly report that we went south to Girdwood and had lunch then north to Mick and Jodi’s where Rio and Rio’s friend were reunited. I can also report that way too many hot wings were consumed along with beer and shine. Much laughter and good cheer. We left around 10 pm and not too far from Mick and Jodi’s eagle-eyed Rio’s friend spotted a moose and calf inches from my car crossing the road as I was turning to get on the highway. Once home both Nana and Rio’s friend immediately said goodnight and headed to bed.
