Yellow Jackets

“Those smart guys at Georgia Tech have been doing some interesting things,” Bernie says. “Specifically they’ve done the math on how the nation within the nation shakes off water.”

I look at Bernie, my favorite human by far. I like just about every human I’ve ever met – including most of the perps and gangbangers, especially Moon Droggins, who shared a burrito with me when we were taking him in – but sometimes they lose me.

Yep, they had an X-ray of a cat. "The shaking is sinusoidal." Which means it's a smooth repetitive oscillation. Interesting that a Whirlpool scientist was part of the project. Maybe we'll soon have washers that shake the clothes dry like dogs.

I want to know why my dogs come out of the water and wait until they are standing next to me before shaking the water off (onto me).

Once that is settled, I want to know why they run up to a moose barking and snarling (mistake #1)and then turn and run back to me (mistake #2). I've already turned tail and am trying to get away from the scene. I don't want to know them at those times.

Well, that was fasinating, and an important study for all of mankind. And of course, the nation within the nation.

Good morning, everyone. Bee, are you eagerly awaiting the WS on Wednesday?

Barb and I were supposed to drive to Iowa today for a picnic lunch with some English Shepherd Club friends. It got canceled last night, due to a medical issue, so now we have 4 lbs. of homemade potatoe salad in the frig. Pondering.

B&M: Good grief. What can you do with that much potatoe salad? And regarding the ws….sigh.

CHarris: That is funny. I'd be totally flummoxed if I ever say a moose.

Regarding the new Sherlock: Benedict Cuberbatch (Sherlock) was the creepy dude in the movie Atonement. He's going to be in a movie coming out 2012–Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with Gary Oldman and Colin Firth. Martin Freeman (Watson) was in the movie Love Actually. The series is co-written by Steve Moffat which is why it's good.

Rio: Physicist's brains are just wired that way. This kind of thing fascinates them and it comes out of the blue. For example, one can be having dinner out and the physicist wonders why the glass that has a napkin under it still has ice cubes while the glass without a napkin under it does not. When the humanist at the table points out that the napkin acts as insulater the physicist doesn't realize that it's merely common sense…no need for calculations. But they love the calculations part.

MagPie: Do chickens or goats eat potato salad?

I'm with C. Harris. Not only do our dogs wait until they are near us to shake. They also tend to wait until they are in the house!

So if "Looseness of skin increases the amplitude and speed of shaking" does that mean Shar pei's really shake fast?

I noticed they didn't do any loose jowled dogs. . .

I'm just glad the moose around here stay, for the most part, on their side of the river!

Ewww They can keep their studies of wet dogs far, far away from me. My philosophy is not to get wet in the first place.

CHarris, I think your dogs are returning to you after running up to a moose because they want you to help. Like a couple of wolves would return to their pack leader to let the leader know that they have found dinner. Running away is a smart choice.

Boy, me too, I could use some of that potato salad.
