Year of the Goat
“What’s the next Chinese New Year?” says Admin.
“Year of the Goat,” Spence says.
“Are there any goat scenes in the Chet and Bernie mysteries so far?”
“Hmm. Goats might have been mentioned.”
“So we’d have to do some research, meaning it will remain a mystery. When’s the next year of the Dog?”
“2018.”
“But around here every year is the year of the Dog.”
“Why not?”

Good morning, everyone! Year of the Goat? Baaaaah. We here at HOH central think everyday is Dog Day. Mom is heading out to the Docs then maybe doing the library thing depending on how she feels.
Have a mysterious Monday, all.
8:40 am on December 30th, 2014
HOH, Probably shouldn’t be around all those kids if you are coughing. Barb is invited out to dinner with Kelly’s group tomorrow night, but may not go for that same reason.
Year of the Goat? Rio may not like this one. What are some attributes of the Goat?
8:51 am on December 30th, 2014
OK, looked it up – the Goat is conservative and quiet. They are polite, kindhearted, intelligent and generous. The Goat person can be too timid and indecisive.
9:35 am on December 30th, 2014
Good morning! Year of the Goat! Yep! We found out that we are getting new goat neighbors! Yes, indeedy!
B,M,&L, The treats Mom gave us for being good while she and Meashka went for their fitness walk were bully slices, not stix. They are different, and they are delish.
Auntie MPM, I have never had pot, but I’m wondering if it is something like a bully slice, huh? When I get a bully slice, I forget all about being mad. Is that how pot works? If so, I think that Pug should give it a shot. Heh! heh! heh!
Now Momma is kicking me out so she can get back to her movie. She is watching “Belle”, and she says it is a really really great movie.
9:53 am on December 30th, 2014
“Why not” indeed!
Wind chill is ten here and frost everywhere but the sun is shining brightly. And I just saw that it’s minus seven in Denver.
Good morning all.
10:10 am on December 30th, 2014
Hi everyone. Hmmm – a goat is “conservative” and yet “kind hearted”. Wish some of our politicians could be more goat-like.
10:34 am on December 30th, 2014
GAH!…wheeze!
10:46 am on December 30th, 2014
Year!…I want to know when it will be “The Year Of The Pug”…grumble!…So far I am having a very hard time with this winter weather. My kabobs are neither here nor there. I cannot feel them anymore…gurgle!
10:52 am on December 30th, 2014
“Kind-hearted, conservative?? Doesn’t sound much like any MGs the Plunderers have come across. If we didn’t know better we’d say it was election year.
11:03 am on December 30th, 2014
Mom is done at docs. More antibiotics and cough syrup plus a blood test and chest X-ray. Joy! Didn’t do library.
Now she is going to scratch us, us, us. And maybe give us cookies.
11:09 am on December 30th, 2014
HOH – oh dear, sounds like it is quilt time for you.
11:11 am on December 30th, 2014
Tupper’s Mams’s post from last night reminded me of the wording of a really great cocktail napkin we got.

11:12 am on December 30th, 2014
Good Morning all–why not think of “conservative” in its true meaning or being cautious, careful, and unwilling to rush into things without thought (unlike many who have misappropriated the name and attempted to change the meaning to something more like “resisting all ideas different from our own”). Then “kind-hearted works. this is alternatively the Year of the Sheep (I don’t know–looks like the same ideograph for both 羊 (“goat, sheep”)
HOH–I could have sworn it was Tuesday today. I’m library-bound also, right after ballet.
Isn’t it still Horse Year until some time in February (when we have another excuse for party food–Yay!)
11:14 am on December 30th, 2014
Everyone–Apologies for the left-open parentheses, missed capitals, etc.
HOH–Be nice to your Mom and let her rest up.
I now find I’m curious about the “pot” references. We’re talking about cooking devices, right?
11:23 am on December 30th, 2014
Diane, you caught us, it is Tuesday. Mom’s brain checked out (does that a couple times a month). Pot comments due to legal “recreational” in CO we think.
Tupper’s Mama, this is the second round and she is sick of the creeping crud but thinks the quilt sound good right now.
11:32 am on December 30th, 2014
Wookie and Teddy’s Paw, I can add to that list, beginning with the bicyclist who rode up behind us on the trail, without a word of warning, and tried to bike between us. That caused him to almost fall, but our nice Daddy caught him. What did he do? Yelled at us for taking up the trail! Spft!
Diane, Auntie MPM suggested pot to Rio to ride out the storm in Colorado. I am imagining the effects to be similar to my bully slices.
11:44 am on December 30th, 2014
Plunderers, you may remember that we had a very bad, sad year in 2013. We celebrated last New Year’s Eve by making scraps of paper, each one listing a bad event from that year, and thru them, one at a time, into our firepit. It was cathartic.
Well, 2014 had its share of bad for our little family too, beginning with the loss of our beloved Dima, and then further sadness with the loss of Abby. But we had good too. Among our good things this year: We adopted our boy Zeus, and Jaxon’s mom and dad were blessed with a 2nd, healthy baby Mason.
Our family on this here blog has gone a great deal of sadness in 2014, but we are hopeful that 2015 will bring better days. Would you all like to join us in making scraps of paper for all of our blog family, and burning them in the ashes of 2014? After we burn those, we toast to good times in 2015. What do you think?
11:57 am on December 30th, 2014
O’Howlers: Your Idea is a Good One. We will join you in this Ceremony.
11:57 am on December 30th, 2014
We will help mom do that between naps today. Like the idea.
12:09 pm on December 30th, 2014
O’H–It will be a privilege and an honor to join in your ceremony.
HOH and Kat–Thanks for the clarification (I was thinking about putting one’s head in a pot or something).
Sharon, Dawson and all feeling under the weather, be safe under the quilt today.
Kat–I’m still wondering what “bully” slices are–something akin to bologna, or something else?
Everyone–Keep warm, fluids, you know the drill. (Fluids can contain a small amount of alcohol for antiseptic and sedative purposes–that’s only my opinion, but it’s served me well in the past).
12:10 pm on December 30th, 2014
Goats!
It seems there are two types of goats. One that Barb mentioned resembles our own Wose (except for the indecisive part), a most generous and thoughtful Plunderer. The other, the Marauding Goats, are intelligent but don’t share the other good qualities of goats plus they like to steal or delay mail delivery!
DianeC: Alice B. Toklas type pot. (giggle) Since you are the only one who mentioned it was Tuesday, not Monday, you are probably not under the influence of pot.
I’m treating this illness my usual way. I drink copious amounts of water and sleep as much as possible. I drink a tea made of ginger, cayenne pepper and honey to soothe my throat. I put menthol crystals in hot water by the bedside. I growl at the man who lives in this house, as needed. I am going to steam my sinuses ala BStover this morning. The doctor will be a last resort for me unless this persists. This is not an option for some with compromised immune systems.
12:16 pm on December 30th, 2014
O’Howlers: Me too! I will join you on New Year’s Eve.
12:18 pm on December 30th, 2014
Dawson: I hope the steam works and that you start feeling better.
12:23 pm on December 30th, 2014
Diane is right, the Chinese New Year starts around Feb. 18 or 19, so that is when the Year of the Goat starts.
Diane, Bully sticks are made from a part of the bull that one would think should just be thrown out, if you get our drift.
1:07 pm on December 30th, 2014
I will join the burning of 2014 also. More instructions please. Do we just burn up the bad stuff? I will make sure I get my luminaries ready for the burning. I hope the wind doesn’t blow them out out out.
Have a tremulous Tuesday?
Wookie and Teddy’s Dad we really like that napkin!
BBl, I am going out to drill some luminary chimney holes
1:25 pm on December 30th, 2014
Well…it sounds like a great idea, but we don’t have a fireplace, so we will do the burning of 2014 only virtually. After leaving our job just before Thanksgiving (which was great for a lot of reasons and not great for the obvious ones), it ended the year on an interesting note. 2015 promises to be a busy year with a lot of great potential. Starting with puppy to be born any time now. Breeder posted a photo of Mama, which I’m including. Very exciting. Alena still calls her a police dog…I reckon getting a GSD pup will be appropriate for the year of the goat.

1:54 pm on December 30th, 2014
Oooo Buddy – that mama dog foes look ready to pop.
Howlers – we too will join in the Burning of the Bad for 2015. Just let us contact our local fire department to advise them of the conflagration first.
Wookie and Teddy’s Dad – Love that. We are working on that list right now too!
1:54 pm on December 30th, 2014
Good day all. Alaska also became a state that can legally sell pot–I think it might take affect in 2015. Everyone still working out the details.
Ironically my temporary foster of a mama cat and her kittens has been extended because they are all congested. I am giving them liquid amoxicillan 2x/day for 7 days. Moving them back to their real foster home would be too stressful and my accommodations are better. I am ok with this even though it puts my schedule behind. Fortunately, they always ate well and continued to be playful so they should respond well to the medicine.
1:57 pm on December 30th, 2014
Mama GSD is beautiful! Will this puppy be a working dog or a family companion?
Kat, Barb watched Belle a few months ago. It was very good.
Also Kat, I don’t want to burst your bubble but bully slices are made with beef ear and beef “pizzle”. We just have a little hangup about that, sweetie. Barb did order some beef round bones with her organic beef order that will be ready next week, so that will be a late Christmas gift for ole Lucy and me.
2:06 pm on December 30th, 2014
Does Buddy’s puppy’s mama GDS qualify as today’s FOoD?
2:23 pm on December 30th, 2014
Maggie, natural cow hide is coated with our secret “Bully Stick Coating”. HEH! Please do not explain to our innocent little Kat.
About tomorrow night’s event: Mom and Pop are going to Liberty Taproom (our go-to dog-driendly place in the summer), for a special New Years Eve food and beer pairing. That goes from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. They will join all of us after that. Between now and then, we could each throw items out here that we want everyone to burn? Or would some rather do their own in private? Please let us know.
2:30 pm on December 30th, 2014
This is a very interesting end of the year report on Hospitals that did not improve their patient safety rates. First time ever they were fined by Nedicare. I checked and one is where I go to my podiatrist in Fargo.
http://kaiserhealthnews.org/news/721-hospitals-penalized-for-patient-safety/
Maybe your local hospital is here. Check it out. (two in Anchorage are on the list) I got this information on a link from Consumer Reports.
2:36 pm on December 30th, 2014
Thank Dog, the hospital where Pop works is not in this list, though our other local hospital is.
2:48 pm on December 30th, 2014
We’re a bit concerned. We found several hospitals with which we’ve dealt or are familiar.
New pup will, if all goes according to plan, be guide dog #4 in a couple years. I’ve got it planned such that when Leno is probably going to be thinking about retirement, new pup will be ready to step in. There may be some overlap, but that will be all right. Of course, there’s always a chance that I’ll either not be any good at guide dog training, or that new pup will not want the job. In that case, we’ll have a nice companion to take care of the house. I mean, to split guard duty with Fiona.
2:49 pm on December 30th, 2014
Staff, that was interesting. There are 3 hospitals in the Chattanooga area and not one is on the list, thank Dog.
2:53 pm on December 30th, 2014
Kat, I have never tried bully slices and I never will!
4:10 pm on December 30th, 2014
Diane doesn’t know about Marauding Goats. Won’t she be surprised!
4:26 pm on December 30th, 2014
Maybe they don’t maraud in their year. We can hope!
5:34 pm on December 30th, 2014
Hospitals!….Oh no!…gasp!…The Falmouth Hospital is on that list of unsafe hospitals…yeeeep!….I hope you-know-who and Admin do not have to go there anytime soon for any reason whatsoever…wheeze!
5:44 pm on December 30th, 2014
Goats!…This totally explains why the Giants package has all but disapeared off the Tracking Radar…sob!…The Alaskan Marauding Goats have struck it rich in cookies this time….grumble!
6:08 pm on December 30th, 2014
WE have paws crossed that those goshed darned goats don’t get the Twix package we sent to the Giant!
6:31 pm on December 30th, 2014
There are no hospitals on there from our area either.
Wose, you might be the only other person on the blog that reads Jodi Picoult, but I wanted to say that her new book is my all time favorite (of her books). You have to believe in the possibility of psychic abilities and other dimensions, which I do, or the book would not be plausible. The only downside is that some of the cruelty to elephants was hard for me to read. No one in the book is being cruel, but she mentions some facts that were difficult for me.
Sort of like when Rio read Totally Beside Myself, I can’t stop thinking about this book.
6:44 pm on December 30th, 2014
Did anyone hear about the Idaho woman who was shot and killed by her two years old at a Walmart today?
OK, I feel bad, because the kid will be screwed up the rest of his life, but what sane person shops with a toddler in a shopping cart and has a loaded hand gun in her purse?
Gotta be one of those crazy prepper-bug out people.
7:00 pm on December 30th, 2014
We read that, B,M&L. We feel bad for that 2-year old too. For the mom? Not so much. But, what does prepper-bug mean?
7:27 pm on December 30th, 2014
The Preppers/Survivalists are the far out people who are preparing for government collapse, take over, etc, where they go underground into their shelters and take care of themselves. They are militant and anti-government. Lots of them in Idaho. Sometimes they have underground shelters and stored food and water, and of course, weapons to fight off all the attackers. They are also said to be “bugging out”.
7:29 pm on December 30th, 2014
Yeah- what is a prepped-bug?
On a happier note – here is Gramp on Christmas day

7:31 pm on December 30th, 2014
Oh we love that portrait of sweet Callie!!! Andrea is so good!
7:37 pm on December 30th, 2014
That portrait of Callie is drop dawg gawgeous! Know that Gramps treasures it!
7:39 pm on December 30th, 2014
I think that Gramp is one cute Dude!
7:57 pm on December 30th, 2014
We admit – Gramp is pretty cute. You should see his “church ladies” hovering around him at social gatherings. tee hee
7:58 pm on December 30th, 2014
But he only has eyes for Callie
8:04 pm on December 30th, 2014
What about when Barb visited last March? Those two hit it off.
8:05 pm on December 30th, 2014
And they are quite the pair. Is he able to take her for walk yet?
8:06 pm on December 30th, 2014
Hey! What about when I visited? Gramps and I hit it off too!
8:25 pm on December 30th, 2014
Kat – Gramp did admit to having a bit of a crush on you, but he thought you might be a tad too young. You know hhow people are….they will talk.
(whispering – we DO think Gramp was a tad sweet on Miss Barb…he still asks about her…tee hee{)
8:30 pm on December 30th, 2014
When is the next Plunderer get-together? Mom says I will go to the next one. I am an excellent chaperone, Barb.
8:44 pm on December 30th, 2014
Out of curiosity, does Gramps ever ask about us?
8:55 pm on December 30th, 2014
Thieves: I think Gramps asked about youse when he couldn’t find his wallet.
9:03 pm on December 30th, 2014
So long as when his wallet is out of sight, we are in his mind…
9:18 pm on December 30th, 2014
Let’s just say our next get together should start at Niagara Falls.
9:22 pm on December 30th, 2014
That’ a good idea. It would add another state to mom’s list (only 8 left).
9:24 pm on December 30th, 2014
I think about Gramps too but I don’t tell Mr.Fireslippers. Grampd is a cutie.
9:30 pm on December 30th, 2014
I have never seen Niagra Falls.
9:38 pm on December 30th, 2014
What a wonderful picture of Gramps and Callie. Barb would be tempted to become a “church lady” if she lived closer. I think she still has a little crush on you know who.
9:39 pm on December 30th, 2014
I don’t mind saying,
Gramps is adorable!
😉
9:41 pm on December 30th, 2014
Mama asked the Storyteller if he would go to Niagara Falls and he said YES!!!!
He did mention not going until spring however.
9:45 pm on December 30th, 2014
OK – next fundraiser – we are raffling off Gramps.
Some days we are more anxious to start the raffle than others.
9:46 pm on December 30th, 2014
Hands off, Dawson, you already have a guy, and anywho, Barb has first dibs! LOL Are you ready for a repeat train ride?
9:46 pm on December 30th, 2014
Gramps!….He’s the guy who let me sit on his lap and lick his arms….chorkel!…What a great tasting guy…heh!
9:49 pm on December 30th, 2014
B, M and L–Thanks for the clarification (and a rather disturbing image…)
9:52 pm on December 30th, 2014
HOH, When you ask if he is able to take her for a walk, are you referring to Barb? She is not really leash trained.
9:54 pm on December 30th, 2014
Gramp is a cutie and a gentleman.
9:58 pm on December 30th, 2014
Barb, Maggie & Lucy: I’d love a repeat train ride (but with all facilities working and on time) and a chance to see Niagara Falls, but it is not in the cards for me this Spring.
I will be doing home and yard maintenance chores and starting seeds for the garden.
10:01 pm on December 30th, 2014
This is the New Years Eve food and beer pairing that the ‘rents are going to. There goes the diet. I stole this from facebook. Mom would never show this to me.

10:02 pm on December 30th, 2014
Train!…I could go on another train ride…snort!…But I think my friend has other ideas of which I have not clue…gurgle!
10:05 pm on December 30th, 2014
Youse guys are making us laugh. That is a good thing.
Saying good night from beautiful downtown Grampsville.
G’night, family.
10:07 pm on December 30th, 2014
B&M&L, we meant Callie for the walk as they used to several miles a day. Tell barb that we think there is some strange law in MASS that makes it illegal to walk a lady on a leash 🙂
10:13 pm on December 30th, 2014
We are heading for nighty night, too. Sleep tight and don’t let the bed pug bite.

10:18 pm on December 30th, 2014
We just finished watching the Irish win their bowl game. All members of this family are smiling.
G’night!
10:32 pm on December 30th, 2014
OH my Dorg, someone does have BegPugs.
10:36 pm on December 30th, 2014
In the interest of clearing the boards for the New Year I have donated 105 to the bootie fund. That brings us to 1505 and our goal for the year. So all who were matching funds please send it in if you haven’t already and I will send mine in too.
I am going to be dripping in jewelry and key chains! Heh. So Amalia you know where to send all my loot!
You guys snoozed so you lose. Although is anyone really wants one I will not be greedy. I am willing to share. (But not the feather, I really like the feather)
Hugs to you all. You did a great job and I know we are all proud of ourselves.
Bootie bootie bootie.
Alice wanted this picture…

10:36 pm on December 30th, 2014
Bed-Pugs!…Notice how they all hog the pillows?…heh!heh!…Such is the way of a really good Bed Pug…snorkel!
10:38 pm on December 30th, 2014
Staff!…While you are still up and hogging all the jewelry go and check your SDD…grunt!
10:40 pm on December 30th, 2014
Booties!….DONE!…Now we need to get cracking on the A-Team Sponsorships….snort!snort!….But maybe not till after the New Years Celebrations….heh!…Which reminds me, who here is having the New Years Eve party anyways?…hmmmm?
11:19 pm on December 30th, 2014
Staff: Thanks for your persistence and congratulations on winning all the jewelry and clearing the Bootie books too!
Go Snowhook Kennels!
6:25 am on December 31st, 2014
Staff, Thanks for clearing the books on the Shake Your Booty Fund. What color booties will Snowhook model this year, I wonder.
We hope to have an announcement for A-Team sponsorships soon.
