WOOF
Here’s what Kirkus Reviews has to say:
In a Louisiana bayou town, a girl and her dog set out to solve a mystery, battling bad guys and big gators along the way. This original whodunit is narrated by an exuberant dog named Bowser, who has just been adopted by 11-year-old Birdie Gaux. Birdie and her grandmother are shocked to discover that a prized stuffed fish, Black Jack, has just been stolen from the family’s fish-and-bait store. How could a stuffed fish be worth stealing? Maybe if there’s a treasure map hidden inside. Birdie and Bowser begin to investigate in earnest, their sleuthing involving everything from breaking into rival establishment Straker’s World Famous Fishing Emporium, gathering clues at the library and the local assisted living facility, and traipsing through the bayou at night in search of the treasure that Birdie’s grandfather supposedly hid there so many years ago. Although it’s Birdie and Bowser who keep the plot zipping along, the unlikely detectives are surrounded by memorable characters both good and bad. And despite the villains, silliness and humor are paramount here, thanks to Bowser’s playful narration. Utterly charmed by a spunky girl and her charismatic canine, mystery fans will find themselves looking forward to a return to the little bayou town of St. Roch. (Mystery. 8-12)

It is great!
Good morning all.
8:57 am on February 3rd, 2015
Have two Grands that will be 9 this year. I see a Woof in their futures!
Morning all. Heading out to work with a light snow falling here and low temps.

We can’t wait for WOOF!
Howlers – how is your little chickie?
Really buried in snow here. And the snow plows destroyed most of the mailboxes on the street. Hot rodders.
10:27 am on February 3rd, 2015
Cleida is about the same this morning, T&G.
10:28 am on February 3rd, 2015
I remember CHobbit telling the story of waking up in the middle of the night with Sadie outside her door and her tail wagging furiously. Quickly, followed by all the kittens coming up the stairs. C.Hobbit was wondering how all the kittens managed to get together and pull the door open. I believe one Sadie Bear pushed it open from the other side and let them all out. You go, Sadie Bear!!
10:35 am on February 3rd, 2015
BooBear: ha, ha. Could be. Sadie is really good around kittens although she has been determined that if they are allowed on the couch, so is she. At the moment I have no kittens but Sadie is still claiming her rights tot he couch.
10:59 am on February 3rd, 2015
By the way, OHs, what new baby is coming your way?
11:01 am on February 3rd, 2015
C.Hobbit: All Dogs should be Allowed On the Couch.
It’s one of our unspoken rights as Members of the Nation Within.
11:04 am on February 3rd, 2015
CHobbiti: Do you still have the cantankerous mama kat?
11:12 am on February 3rd, 2015
Masquers: yes, I still have said cat. There has been improvement since she is out of her hiding place all night and most of the day (she goes under the bed or in my closet at 2:00 pm and comes out again at 7:00 pm). She also doesn’t hiss at me anymore and I can stand by her and feed her without her running away. I have even touched her a couple of times. Of course, if anyone comes into the house, she vanishes.
11:12 am on February 3rd, 2015
Bowzer Wowzer!
I have to get that book.
O’Howlers: A good day to have off. Of course, I think that about every day but especially days when it is icy outside and driving is involved. I hope the vet is not too far away and Cleida gets checked out and fixed up.
11:24 am on February 3rd, 2015
In light of the discussion about To Kill A Mockingbird a few days ago, this article might be of interest to some. A new Harper Lee book will be published in July called Go Set a Watchman. It was written before TKAM and featured an adult Scout. It was the flashback scenes in the book that had her editor suggesting that TKAM be written featuring a young Scout. The original book was hidden/lost all these years. Now it is being released kind of like a sequel to TKAM.

11:34 am on February 3rd, 2015
Wonder why Harper Lee never wrote anything after TKAM. Anyone know?
Hope you get some answers on Cleida. I was never able to get any help from my vets. They would make comments like “Well, it’s just a chicken!” I think unless it is an avain specialist they don’t know squat! Nor did the large animal vets I encountered really care.
11:35 am on February 3rd, 2015
Heh! Heh! Hobbit! Great minds…
We had just cut that very same link to paste in this here blog.
BooBear: no new babies here.
11:36 am on February 3rd, 2015
CHobbit: I will have to re-read TLAM and then this new book. Harper Lee seems very happy the manuscript survived. I’m glad it was re-discovered while she is still alive to see it published.
11:53 am on February 3rd, 2015
Harper Lee’s New Novel sounds like a Must Read. It is hard to believe her first Pulitzer Prize winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, was banned at times. Sign of the times I guess.
11:54 am on February 3rd, 2015
I was just going to post that article about Harper Lee also. Mr.Fireslippers told me this a.m.
Oh Woof sounds like so much fun. I love to read the so called young adult books.
12:06 pm on February 3rd, 2015
We all seem to be on the same page as to Harper Lee. Great minds indeed.
And now, Mama is loading Gramp into the Chili Pepper to drive him around in the snow covered world. She tried to get him to postpone his appointments for better road conditions, but nooooo. sigh Gotta love him.
12:10 pm on February 3rd, 2015
T&G!!!! Tell your mama that chili pepper doesn’t belong out on those roads!!!
12:12 pm on February 3rd, 2015
C.Hobbit: Thank you for the link. I just pre-ordered Go Set a Watchman at Amazon. It will be out July 14.
12:12 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Amalia, the pup not the Plunderer, is a fully-sponsored member of the Snowhook Race Team!!!
Thanks to the amazing Drew sisters!!!
12:27 pm on February 3rd, 2015
T&G. I expect your snow plowers are amateurs You would think after the first mailbox he/she would have noticed. How deep is the snow?
I will admit that many places around here have tall but skinny metal stakes placed at the sides of driveways so the snow plows can “see” the sides of the road after a big snowfall.
12:45 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Youse are fast! We here didn’t even have a chance to send our SDD and poof! it was fait accompli.
B: Good idea to pre-order. I will do it now. It is going to be a best seller!
12:59 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Today was toddler-free Tuesday, what fun. Waiting for Woof with baity breath! Another Harper Lee also sounds good. Barb and ALR, now have 1st Miss Julia and looking forward to it.
1:17 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Are we lucky or what! This new Harper Lee book is completely unexpected. And I am looking forward to reading Woof and then passing it along to a young reader. As for Miss Julia, HOH, have a nice visit with her and plan to go back many times!
2:20 pm on February 3rd, 2015
ALR: Nana has pre-ordered, Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good, the New Mitford Book.
2:31 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Great Review without any spoilers…proves it can be done.
2:39 pm on February 3rd, 2015
The Red Hot Chili Pepper is home safe and sound. Errands are done and everyone is home for the day.
The snow is deep! Hard to measure because the snowblowers and plows have piled it up, plus it is drifting like crazy.
We do have metal stakes up and down the street. At least we DID have metal stakes. There are only a few still standing.
All we know is it is more than Corgi height.
2:40 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Exciting news today, a “new” Harper Lee AND WOOF! WE are just ahead (or behind) our time.

3:41 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Hounds: Where Did You Get the Woof Decal?
4:05 pm on February 3rd, 2015
BSD, had it for about 5 years and got it to support a no kill shelter abouot 50 miles north of us. IF we run across more at any time, trust us, we will get them 🙂

We have one of those magnets too. We can’t find the exact same thing, but here is something pretty close:

Thanks, Tupper&Gilly! You too, Hounds.
5:15 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Dawson, the HOH double D was tricky…had to read it several times to see the difference in posts.
5:37 pm on February 3rd, 2015
It doubled because it did not show up here ubtil it doubled and then the $%^&* blog didn’t tell us we had already said it 🙁 Go figure.
5:54 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Dawson, ha ha. The double post has a Canadian pronunciation on one of them.
6:03 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Mpop”s and Loulou’s Mom: I noticed that. First I noticed that the smiley face was in a different spot and then I noticed the typot that was fixed in the second post. What some consider the Canadian pronounciation of about is a myth, IMO. I have never heard any Canadian say “aboot”.
6:05 pm on February 3rd, 2015
“Abouot”. ehhhh
tee hee
6:12 pm on February 3rd, 2015
OK all youse (or all y’all dependin’) enough picking on the double Dawson, sheesh. Cut a herd some Slack!
6:18 pm on February 3rd, 2015
I’ve heard Canadians say “aboot.” Perhaps it’s just in eastern Canada.
6:26 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Dawson, I have heard it said that way. You probably don’t notice it. Years ago, I worked in an office in Detroit. I could always tell the people who were from Windsor, Ontario, because they said aboot and ehh. House and out, too. Pronounced like hoose and oot.
7:12 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Hey, our mom has been accused of being everything except a Californian since she says “dwog” “cwaffee”, “heahah” and “thereah”. She draws the line at crick and squarsh. Sheesh, who really cares? Linguists!
7:18 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Dawson, What’s this abouot a Canadian accent?
7:18 pm on February 3rd, 2015
“We have a messy hoose. There now you’ve heard a Canadian say hoose”, says the man who lives in this house. We are laughing about you Americans. I admit that the Canadians who used to come across the border into Montana said “eh” a lot! There is very little of that “eh” stuff around here, and no “oot” or “aboots”.
7:20 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Howlers, Did you find out anything about Cleida?
7:23 pm on February 3rd, 2015
When I first moved up here I was asked this question many times: What are you, a Noofie? I had no idea what a Noofie was but evidently I sounded like one.
When I met an actual Newfie, from Newfoundland, I couldn’t understand a word.
7:25 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Cleida has a bacterial infection, and will be taking antibiotics for a week (and we will be tossing her eggs for 30 days afterwards). For ome reson, Mom insists that she nurses her, instead of me. I don’t know why, as everyone knows that I am the better nurse.
7:26 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Some reason.
Grr
7:49 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Canadians!….All I know about Canadians is they are always pissed off about something…grunt!…At least the ones my friend has to work with…sniff!
7:50 pm on February 3rd, 2015
WOOF!….I am so excited about WOOF I can hardly stand it!…skip!twirl!spin!…splort!
7:54 pm on February 3rd, 2015
O’Howlers: Heh, heh. If anything I have a Midwest accent.
8:03 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Rio, I did not know that Canadians even knew how to get angry.
8:03 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Dawson!….You are too cheerful to be a true Canadian…snort!
Hot-Shot!….His new and more true to nature name is Hot-Head these days…grump!…He is not handling the change in management very well. And he is burdening my friend with all of his angry outbursts and insecurities…sniff!…This all reaffirms the reason she is single except for Pugs – Till Death Do Us Part…gruffle!
8:08 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Meashka!….Just the other day, yesterday in fact, someone who lives in Canada called the Hot-Head and dropped a load of F-Bombs on the poor stressed-out-to-the-max guy accusing him of all kinds of devious things of which he did not do and has no control over…sniff!…If you do not call that an angry Canadian, I don’t know what then…wheeze!…Angry, blaming SDD’s come in all the time – all from Canada…grump!…They are more angry than Americans, and those guys are pretty angry till Friday and then they calm down a bit…sniff!
8:29 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Poor hothead. We feel sorry for him and for your friend having to listen to him. Hope things get better soon.
I had a day off today. Well from noon on. The turtleman came over and Mr.Fireslippers and we went to a movie, a bookstore and out to eat. Yippee!
The Imitation Game, Uncle Edgars, It’s Greek to Me.
8:30 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Tuesday!…It is only Tuesday…grump!….I need Staffie to tell me everything will be okay…sniff!…My friend does not want to look for a new job, she just wants to survive the big Change. One really needs a surfboard to do that successfully – and their own office…gurgle!
8:32 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Rio: Tell your friend to get the (f-bomb) outta there!
8:45 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Staff — Uncle Edgar’s is one of my favoritemost bookstores. I’ve only been there a couple of times but I now order a lot of books from them.
We have an absolutely spectacular full moon tonight — I believe it is called the Snow Moon. Teddy is howling up a storm.
8:52 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Wookie and Teddy’s Dad, They were wrapping up books as we left to back out into the snow. Yes, we finally got some snow. Only about 3 inches though.
It does seem a little more organized than the last time I went there. Or maybe they have had a slow day and could get stuff put away. I was looking for some early Frances and Richard Lockridge books but they only had a few and they were all ones I had. I might have to go searching at ABE and Alibris. And Amazon I suppose.
DianeC. I got a wonderful copy of the first Miss Julia (It is upstairs and I forget the name) off of Amazon. Someone in Georgia is liquidating their collection and it was only 6.00 and with shipping under 10. What a deal. Perfect condition and immaculate book jacket. I hate to use it.
9:07 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Got our reserved Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind today so as soon as our eyelids quir slamming shut, we will read it.
9:23 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Howlers – we are sorry your chickie is sick, but glad she will soon be better.
Dawson, we think it is eastern Canadians who are the “ehhhh” team. We know a bunch of east side Indians who punctuate everything with them. But we still love you, even if you never invite us to your hoose for dinner.
9:38 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Rio, I am happily single with my dog(s). I wish I had learned this many years ago.
9:53 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Staff: Did you hear while you were running oot and aboot today that there was a manhunt in your neighborhood? The St. Louis Park Byerly’s (grocery store) was evacuated for awhile. Then a residence in Edina was searched and Hiway 169 was blocked. The man they were hunting had been in a shootout with police prior to escaping!
10:15 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Excitement in Staffie’s neighborhood! Glad she didn’t run into any trouble.
Howlers, do they know how Cleida got the infection? I know your folks keep a clean coop, so it wouldn’t be from anything unsanitary.
Eyelids are getting heavy. Must say goodnight.
10:17 pm on February 3rd, 2015
TONIGHT! Night Sky Trio: Full Wolf Snow Moon, Jupiter, and International Space Station.

Now to join Teddy, the O’Howlers and Siber-H for a Howl-fest.
Everyone is Welcome to Join in! AaaaaRoooooo!!!
10:22 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Ahroooowoooooohoooooo!
goodnight all
10:49 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Dawson, I did not hear about it at all. We were not over that way but Dad’s nurse, Kathryn, came in full of the news. She lives for the excitement you know. Evidently she drove by it and was “right in the thick of it, I have never seen so many cops, FBI and ATF people in one place”
Oh well. I do not mind missing that at all.
10:51 pm on February 3rd, 2015
I’d go out and look at the sky but since I am in the city it is not worth my time. When the moon is high overhead it will shine in my window and I will howl then. I wonder what Mr.Staff Mr.Fireslippers will think.
Night all
Except Liz. Good morning Liz
10:53 pm on February 3rd, 2015
I was going to strike out Mr.Staff. Really. But I forgot.
Night again.
11:10 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Good night Staff – glad you are far away from the dangerous excitement
Good night Rio – hope things get better for your Friend very soon.
Good night Dawson – you are still our very favorite Canadian.
Good night Howlers and Barb and HOH and MP&LLMom, and anyone else still awake.
Good night moon. Aroooooooooooo
11:57 pm on February 3rd, 2015
Along with our chicken worries, we here are worrit about Rio’s friend. Luna included. What’s this? Luna just tied a scarf under her chin, packed Bellie Button’s sparkly pink backpack, and put our Lady in charge of Belle Starr—that will go over like an evil pug in church. Luna informed us that she was blurring to Friend’s busy place to have a Huffle and gruffle with the Hotshot about burdening Friend. This will be followed by an alert-upright-professional pep talk with the Hotshot and finally a piece of hard candy to help him feel better. Firm and loving—this is Luna’s way. She also plans to stay at the busy place for the rest of the day to run interference for anyone thinking about thinking about stressing Friend.

Hello All,
Thank you for the well wishes on the Knik 200. We had a great race where the dogs ran steady for 83 miles each leg. They are in great shape and finished strongly. In fact we passed the 160 mile mark and the dogs started loping around the final loop. They then went on to finish the race with energy to spare and were up and around the next day like things were no big deal. So, we feel like things are looking up for the team this year.
– I almost forgot to mention as a side note that Rio did not shut up at all for the six hour layover.
In other news we have been extremely busy getting the food drops ready. Vivian and I worked our way through 1000 pounds of meat and got most of it packed already. We just have a couple of things to go with this and they’re done. Then it’s vet checks, a few last runs and we’re off to the show.
The team that Phil has been running however has seen it’s share of problems lately. I’ve been working over the dogs and working with Phil on correct dog running management. This close to the race this aspect has been stressful. In order to make his team work I’m switching a few dogs around from my team to his team as well as borrowing a few dogs from another musher to fill his team out. With a little luck and a lot more concentration from Phil we’ll get him ready for the race.
Rebecca has been exceptional at rounding out all the edges for us as I’m out running. The logistics of putting one team into Iditarod is a big deal but working through 32 dogs is even more. I couldn’t do this without her.
If you haven’t already had a chance to check out our finish at the race we have it up on our facebook page. Thank you for your support as always. I have eaten my way through all current cookies and almost all of the Twix bars. We look forward to having you follow us this year and for those of you coming up here we look forward to seeing you again soon.
See you on the trail
Aj
