What’s In A Name?

Ms. Publicist: Fifteenth of the month, so therefore – normally Bernie handles the so therefores, of course – it’s time for What’s In A Name, where Spencer Quinn and I discuss a character name from the Chet and Bernie series. What’ll it be, Spence?

Spencer Quinn: How about the Borgheses, the owners of Princess the show dog in Thereby Hangs a Tail?

Ms. P.: He’s an Italian count, as I remember.

SQ: Exactly. Lorenzo di Borghese, and his wife is Adelina, although she’s a Jersey girl, nee Simkins. Hereditary titles, nobility – there’s something amusing about these vestigial remains. I picked Lorenzo because of Lorenzo the Magnificent and Adelina works as an aristocratic sort of name but also reminds us of the Sweet Adelines, pure down home Americana. So she’s on a sort of fault line, always a dangerous place. Borghese I flat out stole – they were an important noble family for centuries.

Ms. P.: And maybe still are. Do you think they’ll sue you? Spence? Spence? Where are you going?

Welcome Ace & Toby, Charlie.

Hello All and Happy Wednesday–thereby Hangs a Tail is my current favorite–I love that when Princes is too tired to go on Chet just picks her up in his mouth and carries her–I guess the preference is a remnant of adolescent romantic me…
The Borghese family must have come down in the world since their name is also on a line of skin care and cosmetics. Actually, kind of upscale products, so maybe they haven’t come down too far…
Melanie, Macy’s Mom, and all confronting challenges–thinking of you and sending love and light your way.
    Everyone–Have a wonderful day.

Good morning all. Borghese is a good choice. Like their villa, although we wouldn’t want to have the upkeep. We can picture Sammy living there.

Barb has been online filling out an application for fostering. She found a little senior dog she wanted to adopt, but they want her to take his mom too, as a foster. Emmit is 30 lbs. and 10 years old. His mom, Cuddles is 14, small, doesn’t see well or move fast. Barb is a little concerned about taking her in, since I am about 80 lbs (Ok I could stand to lose 5-10 lbs.) and I tend to be a little rambunksus (sp?).

BSD, I always like it when four leggeds come to stay. I am not the jealous type, so Barb thinks I would like the company. At her age she doesn’t want to bring in a puppy. Seniors are harder to place, so she thought that would be a good choice.

O’H, HOH, BSD–Conan is the new guy, as O’H astutely recalled. His aunt and i were to originally have shared custody, and she is the backup right now if I have to be out of the house longer than I’m comfortable leaving all three together. I had to be gone for a long time Monday, so she agreed to take him for a visit.
I was worried about having a frail senior with two livelier dogs–I once had a Peke who sometimes attacked an elderly Lhasa and had to keep them separated. I am delighted to report that this group is tolerant, if a bit wary at times.
Barb and Maggie–Aren’t you wonderful! If they can all get along, the younger dog may have a youthifying effect on Emmit and Cuddles (Cuddles??? Really. Well, no, I guess I don’t have any room to talk since I named Miss Pretty.)

Hello Plunderers – aren’t names funny things? Do we become what we are named, or does our true name make itself known to others?

Have you ever met someone who just obviously had the wrong name? Not an ironic name, like calling a Chihuahua “Killer”, but just the WRONG name?

Tough day for mom. She had to have Dad at the hospital at 6 this am to check in for the day surgery to install the IV port for the chemo treatments. That means she got up at 3 to take care of us then they had to leave by 4:30. The procedure was fine but in recovery and on the way home, Dad was super chatty. Three friends married women from different parts of the country. The first man married a woman from the North. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man married a woman from the West. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table. The third man married a girl from the Texas. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.

Creator – we thank you for this winter’s night, full of stars and the full Wolf’s Moon. We gather around to share our strength, to give to those who are feeling weary, to comfort those who need our love.
Creator – we have so many ways to find comfort in this world. We thank you for the love of our animals, whose purrs and head bumps and nickers and chirps lighten our days. They never question our human emotions, but they are there to heal us with their gentle presence. They don’t care if we are rich or poor, old or young – they give us solace in times of sorrow, and quiet companionship without demands. Please bless our animals and keep them safe, and let them find comfort from within our hearts.
We have the comfort of knowing that the darkest night will bring about the morning sun. It has been your promise that the sun shall rise, that the world will continue, that the earth is our home. We have the sun, and the rain, and the whispering trees. We have the mountains soaring up to the blue sky, and the sound of birds and music and laughter. Our lives are so very full of the wonders you have bestowed. When times are the hardest; when we struggle to keep walking, let us find comfort in the gifts you have given us, for these gifts are your promise that another day will come.
Creator – we have the comfort of family to help us bear our burdens. Sometimes it is the family that we have been born to, other times it is the family that we have made, a family that is together by choice, and bound by love. What a wonderful gift it is to have this circle of family we have made; by sharing our lives, each one is better for the love received.
Creator – please hold in your hands and in our hearts those in our family who need to feel that love. Please let their hearts be open to the beauty and abundance around them, and let them take comfort in seeing that today, the sun did rise again, and the world continues on.
We gather tonight to share our strength with Truman and Karen, to wrap them in the comfort of knowing they are not alone. We ask for healing, for happiness and peace in their lives. We ask you to lift the troubles off their shoulders, and let them rest in the comfort of your love. We gather tonight to share our strength with Melanie, and to be by her side as she walks the paths of medicine and tests and healing. We ask you to give all their doctors guidance to cure them, let their physicians be healers of body and soul.
Creator – we ask that you wrap our comfort around the shoulders of Rick and MaryLou as they say farewell to one they loved. Please show them the light of her dancing her way to you, young and strong and carefree again. Let the stars bring them comfort; let our love support them in their sorrow.
There are so many tonight who hold their arms open for comfort that seems out of reach. We ask you to gather our hearts together to fill those arms, to provide the love and comfort that our friends need.
Creator – we thank you for this dark winter’s night, full of stars and the full Wolf’s Moon. We are grateful for this family who will gather around to share our strength, to bear the load for those who are weary, to hold those close who need our love.

T and G–I don’t know what SPP time is, but I will join asynchronously until I find out.
Macy’s Mom–No words, so I send my very best thoughts. Even when you know, you’re never ready.
Melanie–I think you’re entitled to a good movie, but OK. Have you seen “Warm Bodies”? (Romeo and Juliet with zombies and currently all over HBO.

The smallest moon of 2014? Is that why Darah isn’t honking as much as the usual full moon?

Thought you’d enjoy seeing this though the picture is misleading. A tree came down across the trail and I had to get inventive to get back home. Cut out a few branches and quickly get the sled on its side and you’re on your way.

I saw my results, I have had this problem once before.
Make sure acne cures you aren’t allergicBefore you buy this cream take a quick look at the treatments they
have available to them. If you really want to get away from products containing such active ingredients should not be ignored.
A proper diet is not made up of 50 ml of rose water, applying to the scars, but most moisturizers for women are too intense for your sensitive skin.
