What’s In A Name?

Ms. Publicist: Hi, Pete! We haven’t done What’s In A Name in way too long. You’ve often mentioned you can’t write a character until you have the name. True?
Pete: Mostly!
Ms. P: I’m interested in Dragomir, the powerful and dangerous Romanian fellow in Mrs. Plansky’s Revenge – which I urge readers to preorder. Go on. I’ll wait.
Pete: Ha ha. I wish I had that particular faculty of yours. As for Dragomir, I’d heard the name, suggestive of both dragons and Dracula, so I was on board from the start. Then I looked it up and it means something like a guy to whom peace is precious. So the name itself is like a mini mini ironic short story, and off I went.
Ms. P: Thanks, Pete. See you next month for more of What’s In A Name!
(and thanks mlaiuppa for the funny dad comment yesterday)

If I don’t see a photo of Rio’s orchid, I’m going to be in a very bad mood.

    Hi Everybody and Belle.

I lived in Indiana (where you can buy Blue Bell ice cream).

Rio, the orchid is lovely. Give it a small amount of water once a week and it will be happy. The window light looks ideal for it.

Rosie Gray in the NYTimes! Her parents are surely very happy for her success.

Rio! That is a beautiful orchid. A houseful of cats would destroy it in a hot minute. You, I’m sure, will take better care of it.

Beautiful orchid. But I wouldn’t do the ice cubes. But yes, it does need humidity. I would put some pebbles in a saucer or tray and then make sure it has water. Then the evaporation will provide a little cloud of humidity for the orchid. Looks like an ideal location. My Mother had one for the longest time in the kitchen window by the sink. It faces North so indirect sunlight, plus humidity from the sink and doing dishes.

Happy National Bath Bomb Day and National Towel Day. Funny they should occur on the same day.
