What’s In A Name?

Mrs. Publicist: Past time for this month’s What’s In A Name, where Peter Abrahams aka Spencer Quinn discusses a character name from one of his books. Pete, we’ve never done place names. You make up a lot of places – the Valley, say, in the Chet and Bernie mysteries, 0r –

Pete: Or St. Roch in the Bowser and Birdie middle-grade series!

Mrs. P: Which, I should point out, adults with fake ID are also reading. Tell us about naming St. Roch.

Pete: Well, Birdie and her family live in bayou country, so I wanted something French. And St. Roch is the patron saint of dogs. The series is narrated by Bowser. And while there is a St. Roch section of New Orleans, there’s no St. Roch in Louisiana.

Mrs. P: So – a perfect storm.

Pete: I think of it as a perfect calm.

Mrs. P: See you next month for another edition of What’s In A Name. Maybe the readers have a suggestion.

I had to look up St. Roch. Interesting. In paintings and sculptures of him, there is a dog by his side.

    Good morning all.

    Greetings!

“What’s In a Name” is always interesting! OFA is very clever and purposeful in choosing character and location names!

A dreary day in this neck of the woods, but on the bright side, tomorrow is Friday!

    Good day to all!

Loved hearing the background info on St. Roch, the patron saint of dogs. Who knew?

We are finally getting a few days of warm, sunny weather. After all the rain it is very welcome.

Appointment this a.m. to replace a tire that had gone flat.

    BBL.

Good almost afternoon! Mom had a dead battery this morning so had an interesting time getting to work. But she realizes she has some really great friends and co-workers. HATE when men in a service department act like Mom is a stupid woman who couldn’t possibly know what is wrong with the car. Mom worked for a dealership for 36 years. Some of the information floating around did stick.

Love, Love, Love the picture of Mr. Big and the new chair! Hobbit, he was just testing the sturdiness for you. Wouldn’t want it to fall apart and you hurt your back again.
