What’s In A Name?

Mrs. Publicist: Fifteenth of the month, and therefore time for What’s In A Name, where Spence discusses a character name from the Chet and Bernie series. (These are available for purchase wherever books are sold, by the way – wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t mention that!) What’s it going to be, Spence?

Spencer Quinn: How about old man Heydrich, Chet and Bernie’s neighbor on other side – meaning not the Parsons.

Mrs. P: A lovely old couple.

SQ: Exactly the point! The name Heydrich is kind of topical right now – although it wasn’t when the series started.

Mrs. P: You’re referring to the movie Anthropoid?

SQ: I am. It’s about the assassination of the Richard Heydrich, who was one of the top two or three in the Nazi leadership at the time. So giving the character that name was a very broad brush kind of stroke. He was introduced in book one, DOG ON IT, but the payoff doesn’t come until book eight, SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY. (And, dear readers, there will be more C&B).

Mrs. P: Quickly leafing through here. Is this the payoff you mentioned, Bernie talking to Mr. Singh, the pawnbroker?

“He sells you Nazi uniforms?”

“And the occasional battle ribbon and medal, as I mentioned.”

Bernie gazed over at Heydrich’s house. The buzzard on the roof – one of those red-headed buzzards with a bone-colored beak – turned in our direction. It loosed a squawky cry, rose heavily into the air, and flapped away.

SQ: Great leafing!

Mrs. P: Thanks, Spence! See you next month for another episode of What’s In A Name!

    Good morning everyone.
You know, we didn’t make the connection until it was pointed out. Thanks OFA

Good morning, T&G, B and everyone! That Spence, always clever and always on the ball! We wouldn’t have made that connection without OFA.
Looks like a sunny summery day for most, just AK and MA with clouds. Enjoy!

Good Morning Dear Blog Family–This is just a short break from a long round of jumping through hoops, but I wanted to say Hello.
(I’m always somewhat suspicious when I see names like Heydrich, Hess, etc., so no huge surprise at that particular revelation.)

(If anyone’s taking requests, I want Mr. AND Mrs. Parsons to continue with us for the duration…)

    I see they’re lighting the hoops…

The Heydrich House with a Buzzard on the Roof. We’d have expected nothing else.

Another day of Separating the Wheat from the Chaff. Maybe Nana should hire a Dump Truck and get rid of everything in one fell swoop. Pondering.

A Good Day to the Royals, Hounds, B, Diane, and Everyone.

BSD, wheat and chaff, heh, heh. Mom said nothing with soot in the house. Right now the garage is a triage and oh, what surprises we are finding. More later.

We have found soot covered pots and pans, soot covered flat wear, soot covered dishes and glass wear and mom is somewhat soot covered, too. We are staying out of the way and napping on the sectional sofa for Lucy Lou and I Darah Thea am on the recliner. We think they’re putting to much work into getting back into the house. There are lots of comfortable spots on the floor.

Good afternoon. I am in agreement with others. Did not get the connection.

Many new homes for our group. I am glad I decided to stay put. Moving is sooo much work.

Making a brisket to take over and share with my peeps this evening and getting ready for my Thursday trip to St. Louis. Going to spend a few days with sister who lives in STL, and brother who is coming in from N.C.

Howdy, Everyone! We never heard of the movie Anthropoid, but we are putting it on our must-see list. We like WWII movies., and movies about the horrors of those Baddies are always interesting in an awful sort of way. Speaking of Baddies, have any of you read the book The Girls, by Emma Cline? Mom wants to read it, but we think it will be too upsetting.

HOH, are you back in the house now?

Kat, our bodies are in the house. Our furniture is half way in and more coming. Our nick knacks and paddy wacks are some where in between. We will put up fotos, though not as pretty as yours, when most of the junk, er precious possessions are in place.

HOH: do you have your antique furniture back from being restored?

I need to re-read the C&B series again as there are too many things I don’t remember. It would help if I knew that OFA was going to come to Alaska for a reading and book signing. I’d want to study up for the quiz and win a prize!

CHobbitz, the furniture people have promised 3 times to have the furniture done…so far no go. Maybe I should send Staff to them as they are intimidated by the treadle Singer.

HOH: That sounds like a CHobbitz problem except, if it was CHobbitz, the furniture people would’ve sold the furniture and moved to Canada, heh! By the way, have you actually seen any of this furniture lately?

Alice M. Johnson you have a point. They have sworn hand on the heart and the other on the Bible that after two tomorrow by the time mom gets home from the library there will be lovely antique furniture waiting. We will keep the pink bulldozer in mind if necessary.

I know that The Girls has gotten good reviews but I am not going to read it. Any thing to do with Charles Manson is too intense and unsettling for me. I am fairly sure the characters are taken from his group of followers.

Mom is having a good week, better than last when she lost one of her gold earrings, the only ones that don’t make ears swell up and hurt. She has worn them daily for at least 15 years, sob,

We don’t envy HOH having to desoot everything. What a daunting task!

Mom put down a deposit on a senior living cottage. No idea when one will come available.
