What’s In A Name?

Mrs. Publicist: Time for our regular feature which is supposed to appear on the 15th of the month, but now seems to show up any old time.

Spence: The end days must be near.

Mrs. P: What’ll it be this time?

Spence: How about Peanut, the circus elephant in TO FETCH A THIEF?

Mrs. P: Almost certainly the biggest character in the whole series. Bigger than Iko the gator in THE SOUND AND THE FURRY, would you say?

Spence: Definitely, by weight. As for Peanut’s name, it’s kind of a cliche, sort of circus humor. Sometimes I like to start with something that looks like a cliche and then reveal that it’s not.

Mrs. P: Peanut going from a cliche to a very much unique individual?

Spence: Exactly.

Mrs. P: Thanks, Spence. See you whenever for What’s In A Name.

Good morning, All! My name is cliche too! In fact, there are multiple Zeuses at my old Rescue this very moment. Does that make them the same as me? Nope! Mom and Pop say I am UNIQUE, which I think means I am Zeus.

Good morning and Happy First Day of Autumn. My favorite time of the year.

Zeus, there are tons of Maggies too, but Barb says I am the best.

We love Peanuts, one of our favorite characters in the series. Like that she got even in the end, sort of like the elephant in Water for Elephants. We loved the ending of that book.

Looked up those books from last night. Definitely going to order City of Lights. The Road, however, seems a little dark and depressing, so will take a pass on that one. Trash N’ Treasure series seems more light hearted and fun, sort of like Miss Julia, or the Donna Andrews series, so that goes on our list.

    Off to work now. Later.

    Happy autuum equinox day.
It was a beautiful drive here, with the trees all colors. Today we do the same only backwards.

I will catch up with all the news and write those book suggestions down when I get home.

O’Howlers: I have to say, thank dog, regarding your knee news. Now, listen to the doctor about not putting any weight on that knee. Red Cross might lend you a wheelchair for awhile so you don’t have to hop everywhere.

Barb,Magpie,Lucy: When we are looking for a book that is Not currently Available, our Local Library automatically orders it from other libraries in the area. But didn’t you mention a while back that the book can be ordered from ANY library across the U.S?

Also, we had a question regarding the Hounds and their daily trek through the Ash Mines. If one were to take Photos of all Personal Property of Value before the unfortunate occurrence, would it Eliminate that step?

I have a question for realtor Barb. Does a house sell better empty or furnished? I had always thought it is better if it is furnished, though not over-furnished. But our friend’s realtor told her that an empty house is better, so that potential buyers could more easily visualize their stuff there.

  15. BARB, MAGGIE AND LUCY
    12:24 pm on September 23rd, 2015

BSD, when we were out in Lena, IL, the library used to order from other libraries in the state. Here in Woodstock, we have received books from as far away as Florida. We put in the request, they send it out, receive it and then notify us. There is never any charge as long as books are returned on time. I think closest libraries respond first, but with some of the Donna Ball books, they were sent from out of state.

Regarding the Hound’s inventory, no, you are not required as the insured to go out to the loss site. If you can do an inventory from your records, then you would not need to do that process. Most people do not have pictures, videos, or inventory lists that they could readily access. I think in the Hound’s case, they are able to find some things that can be saved, rather than being a total loss. If you don’t have pictures, it is hard to remember every single item that you own. I know I couldn’t!

    Zeus, I am working hard!

  16. BARB, MAGGIE AND LUCY
    12:30 pm on September 23rd, 2015

MEASHKA, I don’t agree that an empty house shows better. There are companies that will go out for a fee and stage a house that is going on the market. I used to fix up and flip houses back in the day and I always put furnishing in a home going on the market. I even did window treatments (that sold with the home), and hung a few pictures on the walls. Buyers for the most part don’t have a lot of imagination, so a few furnishing make a home more attractive. I probably flipped 25-30 homes. One time I sold a home within 2 hours, and one time I had an offer before the woman even walked thru the entire house! Seriously!

I really like this week’s work on the Wordsworth course. It’s on a poem I had never read before: “Michael” which is included in Lyrical Ballads. There is video of the actual place where W walked while writing the first draft of the poem. I’m having fun reading the poem and all the notes in the anthologies. Also it has taken me back to Dorothy Wordsworth’s journal entries for the period. Fun!

Sorry for the delay in posting pictures from our trip to Acadia National Park last week, but wasn’t able to download them until we got back. Me and my gal Zeta had the best time ever there. We got to swim in the ocean (on Sand Beach) and there is even a sort of dog park where I (but not my gal) could go off leash and go into Little Long Pond. We also did a lot of hiking, averaging over 10 miles a day, not a problem for me and my gal, although the folks may have lagged a bit. I do love the water and I am working on my gal Zeta as regards the water too — although still a work in progress as they say. Some photos follow, and if I can get them later, maybe a video or two will follow.

The first one is me and Zeta at LIttle Long Pond. Splash! Splash!

Meashka, Have the realtor put in the listing comments that seller will offer some antiques and furnishings for sale to the buyer. Let them know that will be a separate transaction, otherwise a buyer may try to get those things added into the contract.

I did that with my house out in the country, but I actualy waited till I had a contract, then I had the agent tell the buyer that I would sell some things.

BooBear — We head out for Australia at the beginning of November. Teddy also had a matching special bow tie for the Acadia trip (especially for Bar Harbor) but he was not wearing it on the boat or while in the water.

Also, to maintain tradition, given the recent re-release of Pressure Drop, this is a picture of OFA from the back of Pressure Drop. Pressure Drop was first published in 1989 and I believe it was the fifth book that Peter had published.

So here is a photo of the current state of affairs in the Harris household. It looks very peaceful but keep in mind that Sadie place is sprawled at the foot of the bed. Notice that when Sadie is in her rightful place on the bed that there is little room for moi.

Teddy RR: Thanks for posting those great pictures from your Maine vacation. The sunrise picture is just lovely.

We are back to “The Cubby Hole” for the night. And need to answer BSD: fotos or videos ID things, but the insurance companies have a computer form where you need to enter item(s), value, age and replacement value. (We think they hope we will get fed up and quit.) BSD, you also asked about 5 treasures 1) mom’s 7 piece Corning Ware set dirty but undamaged at the back of a bottom shelf, 2) the DDD’s passport, 3) a small stuffed Scottie dog mom got when she was 2 and had pneumonia, 4) the Plunderer Passport! and 5) the DDD found his marbles, literally. He has a quart jar with cat’s eyes, shooters, solids and others he collected. They sure are lucky dogs.
