We’re Back!

But no post today. Lots of strange airplane happenings and Bernie and everyone are sacked out. I just woke up, but not for long. Happy New Year everybody, in case I forgot.

I was getting worried Chet. What strange airplane happenings? Flight simply isn’t natural…for creatures other than birds. Glad everyone is back safely.

    Hello Everyone!

I’ve had gotten a lot done today. Just wish I could remember what it was . . .

This is the third day in a row for my “stick” walking. Can’t say what it really is because I’ll get moderated.

I’ve noticed, besides the pain of putting my muscles back in the correct place, I have more strength. This morning I was walking without the cane. Cool.

    1:42 pm on January 3rd, 2011

Melanie, Way to go, girl! You will be in good shape by the time you have your surgery. Is it next week?

    Ketchup news!

There is a wind coming down the river, and the Pack smell the beavers. They have been barking madly to protect us. Grace in particular.

At this stage in the Pack, I would give Grace the lead in becoming the leader. She is doing it slowly. She sleeps in the other dogs’ places, she accepts their licking tribute. Yup, I’m thinking the new Alpha B**** is gathering her strength.

Luckily, she is a relatively calm (except for beaver barking) dog.

DAN! Tomorrow, I’m going in to see him in the afternoon. The keyboard we got him for his iPad is bad, I’m sending that back, and buying one from the Mac store down the hill.

IF he gets rid of all the pneumonia AND can do stairs, he will be coming home the 17th or the 18th. COOL!

Barb & MagPie: Surgery is on the 14th. So I should be able to hobble around when Dan comes home.

MagPie! When we were talking about insulation for your French door, Mom had forgotten that Barb is trying to sell the house. Well of course no bubblewrap, but she shoudn’t even use that clear sheet plastic either.

Melanie’s suggestion of a warm wool blanket, maybe like an army blanket, would help and could then be taken down when someone comes to see the house.

    Good Morning, Everyone,
I haven’t been ignoring the requests for calendars and information about them. I’ve been trying to round up a few copies, but I think they’ve sold out. I’ve asked the outlets to let me know if anythiing turns up in any of the stores. If they do, I’ll get them out to you on the first come (requested) basis. In the meantime, I’ll try to post
the back page so that you can at least see the pictures.

Molly, We are thinking about taking the house off the market for Jan and Feb. No one looks then anyway, and that way we can start over with a new MLS# in March. Also, there is a couple from Calif. who loves the house, but not moving back to Il. till end of 2011. We are hoping to put some kind of a deal together with them this spring.

Melanie: That’s great news about Dan. Your surgery is out-patient correct? My brother had something similar done. He went through some physical therapy afterwards and now he’s as good as before the knee problem.

Have there been any studies of alpha selection? How do the pack and other animals determine the selection. Grace gets privileges and is licked as tribute. Are there other things? This is really interesting.

I go to the doctor tomorrow. It’s the one-month follow-up. I’m not going to teach this semester either. I’m going on disability. (I can’t teach/talk and read outloud while coughing and huffing and puffing.) I’m thinking of spending the month of March at the Florida condo.

Yes, B. Stover, it is outpatient. Because of my chronic illness I will have a spinal block. I plan on putting 3 hours of nice music on the iPod. I’m glad you are taking care of yourself. Florida condo in the winter sounds delightful. Breathing also sounds good.

Rio, I think what your friend’s picture is missing is a frame, pure and simple.

We have been busy today. We were trying to make mom a sweater for her birthday, but she keeps sweeping up all our spare hair. She has been keeping the recliner warm all morning and watching On Demand, The Alaska State Troopers.

I think the cause of discord in our pack is the lack of an alpha b****. Belle thinks she is, I know I am, and nobody will decide for sure.

Basket!…She tried putting stuff on the basket, which she did make by the way, and it was a “big pain in the butt”, but then it looked to cluttered…snort!… MinPin, she took this photo before she put it in a frame and that did help a lot….snuff!…Also the background color of the paper is a warm soft yellowish tan, but the photo doesn’t show that very well which enhances the color of the basket…wheeze!…It’s definitely the plain front of the basket that has to be changed – stay tuned…gruff!…But it will not be today, that’s for sure. She has some running around to do later with her mom on behalf of Grandma….sniffle!…We still haven’t had lunch!…STARVING HERE!….grumble!

Melanie, Yesterday AbbietheKitty’s avatar took around 5-10 minutes. Then it was retroactive to the first post with the new avatar.

I agree it is the basket. If you could get some more texture in it, either with color or just widening the spaces in the weaving that might be something to try. Also maybe make it a little bit shorter, but the size really is good in relationship to the flowers. It is really beautiful. I love the little blue forget me not’s.

I don’t understand any of the HAARP talk…

The flowers are gorgeous Rio. I’m sure your friend knows best about the basket, my two cents’ worth is that it’s too square while everything else is organic-y curvy.

  52. Staff
    5:16 pm on January 3rd, 2011

LizF that is a good 2 cents worth. I think the square ones might be easier to make but Rio’s friend is getting better all the time so she might be able to make a more curvy one.
Or maybe extend the stems down and let it look like a bouquet?
Alice is willing to lend her red ribbon to tie it up with.
Well, not exactly willing, but I know where she ditched it.

  55. dawson
    5:39 pm on January 3rd, 2011

Rio: Have you ever tried spilling your coffee on the paper to give it that aged look? Heh heh. Or your dirty water bowl with hair in it to make it look like homemade paper, that might work. (Advice from a no-talent.)
Mollypop: Thanks, I’d better check that out. Sidney has been in the news every day lately, for some reason or other.

Are you sure HAARP is health insurance? We couldn’t find anything about insurance with those letters. AARP is insurance, but that is different. They are a good/big outfit and I don’t think they would be posting anything on our blog. Maybe we shouldn’t be too hard on that guy till we know for sure.

Yes, but Mollypop I was taught not to click on strange sites. Heh heh heh. That is why I waited till someone else did it. Now if Abbie or Alice had been on the blog they would have clicked immediately. They are too curious.

BStover, I seldom see Alice or Abbie remove their bows. They are very sneaky about it. However I have occasionally seen Alice put a paw on it and then just turn away. The bow is pulled off as she turns and gets left behind. Although sometimes, with the fluffy tailed one, it gets hung up on her tail and follows her around for a while.
Abbie is more direct. She just bites and bites at it until it is loosened. Then she scratches it off.

Yes Andrea said she would like to. I would like to be her model but Staff can’t afford it right now. However, of course, she is free to use me as a model anytime she wishes. I could get her a good picture to use. Then I wouldn’t have to travel to New York. Lately it doesn’t seem safe for cats to be traveling.
Although I am a tiny Kat. I could probably go under a seat, not in steerage. Steerage is definitely OUT!

This morning the Weather Channel showed a map of Australia and it’s 103 degrees in Alice Springs. One woman who was interviewed in the flood area said they were at the movies theater when it flooded. I think she said the screen came crashing down.

Yes Riö, he does write about the ravens.

MollyPop: Ummm, you would THINK I have a picture of those ravens, wouldn’t you.

    Yikes, B. Stover!

Kirby!…Did you have to travel to New York City to be a model for Andrea??…snort!…If you did, along the way did you have trouble with ‘steerage’, whatever that is? …grunt!… Please tell Alice Johnson she is full of IT!…heh!…She is scared her tail won’t look right in the drawing…snorkel! …Or her fur will have a funny color after all that dying, bleaching and Wonder Fluffing….sneeze!…My gawd, the chemicals have to have adverse affects at some point….wheeze!… Maybe her tail is weak and flimsy like Michael Jackson’s nose used to be…ugh!

    Good evening y’all,

To celebrate mom’s birthday we had the last of our Christmas cookies, the Snickerpoodles. These were made by the same lady who made the Great Danish. They were delish and very crumbly. I love to lick up the crumbs!

Hi Macy, So you weren’t in love with a Great Dane, it was a Poodle?

    Confused here.

Alice Springs – far too hot. Last week my dad was telling me about one Christmas Day in Sydney when he was growing up, it was 115 degrees. Of course, his mother was in the kitchen doing the roast dinner.

Now i have to google snickerdoodles.

Snickerdoodles are my boy’s favorite. Mom makes them at Christmas.
    Melonie: I like the Raven.
Alice Johnson: You look lovely in your new Avitar.
Rio: I thought Grandma’s picture had longer stems on the flowers, they looked very graceful.
I think the Humane Society here went to N.Orleans to get some of the lost pets and bring them back here. Some of the owners got in touch with the Society and got the pets back. Some did not.

Liz! Translation!…So from Australian to English this translates to ‘Your Sketch is Screwed’….grunt!…Am I right or am I right?…snort!….My friend said she will trade you a dignified sketch of Me for a Quilling Project of hers after your Showcase thing is over and when you aren’t crazy busy with whatever. Say, Mid-Year sometime?….snuffle!…She will be better by then, she thinks…grunt!…How about that deal?…sniff!

Nice work with the multilingual thing. Mid-year and a trade sounds like a good idea!

Whew SiberH, we both missed getting slobbered on, but only just.

    10:03 pm on January 3rd, 2011

Ah, I see I stayed away long enough for someone else to get slobbered. So far I have managed to be Rio slurpy free. It is a hard job but someone has to do it. Now Alice just loves to be #100. What a dog that Kat is.

I brought a box of truffles home with me from the States. Oops. I only meant to eat one. One for Macy’s mom. One for Canada winning the hockey game. One for Rio NOT slobbering on me. One for the Raven. Let’s see…what else?

Mollypop: All I can say is that Canada has the best national anthem that is played before hockey games.

Teacher work day today. Lots to do but with no students the day really drug by. Temps still above zero which is to continue until Friday. So someone else must be having our arctic temps. Sorry about that.

Sheep!…She says we are counting sheep tonight to get to sleep at a normal time…grunt!…I always sleep at my normal times…snuff!…What’s up with her?…Maybe she has too many recent memories of Grandma floating around in her head. Maybe she should have done this or done that for Grandma before she passed….grunt

Normal!…How does one get back to ‘Normal’ after losing someone so near and dear?…sniff!…I am sad, but my friend is beyond sad and grappling with the whole “Normal Again” concept….sniff!…And yes, it is just a concept, because Nothing will Ever be the Same Again….sob!…Normal has changed. Once she realizes this, she will be better…snuffle!…She is having a very hard time with the concept of a New Normal….snuffle!…For now, we are off to bed to count something, maybe…sniffle!

  122. dawson
    11:23 pm on January 3rd, 2011

Dear Rio: I have not lost anyone who dramatically changed my “normal” in years. I know this is going to happen again before I want it to and there is no way to prepare. I think time is the only thing that makes a difference. Give your friend lots of hugs because YOU do help her feel better.

    Macy’s mom here,

Thank you all for the nice birthday wishes and kisses. I had a very nice day, even though I did not understand why the pups brought me a pile of their hair. No idea what goes on in those tiny craniums. Good night to all and to all, uh, nite y’all.
