We Needed a Study for This?
Hasn’t Chet already made this clear in The Sound and the Furry?

Chet has made it very clear about how he swims. Scientists are just now catching up?
Jeeze Louise.
Lot of traffic down our road this morning. Makes me wonder if they have closed the bridge due to icing.
Ya’ll stay safe, ya hear? sorry slipped back to when I lived in rural VA.
8:44 am on January 6th, 2014
Cetaceans started as land dwellers?
Good morning all.
8:44 am on January 6th, 2014
Good morning, everyone! Wow, Melanie! Up and around early. Just a dusting of white shiitake but still falling, as is temp. was 29 @ 6:30. Now it is 20 🙁 Mom’s driveway is a vertical ice sheet! Gah. Will be staying home today.
As Macy suggested a while back: HAVE A DAY!
9:11 am on January 6th, 2014
It was a busy night under the quilt. Staff dropped by and Wyatt stepped up as her pillow. Dima blurred over for a celebration! My lady is less swollen today but the pain is worse, worse, worse. I gave her a dose of pain pills before she went to the airport.
I don’t run underwater. I do what my Lady does. We both sink and struggle for all we have to keep our nose above water.
9:17 am on January 6th, 2014
Good morning! It is rainy and in the 50s here!!!!! Yet is will be in the teens later today, and negatives tonight. What a roller coaster. Mom told us that her drive to work was one of the worst ever, because the fog was so thick, the rain so heavy, and the water on the roads making it dangerous. It took her a long time to get there.
Staff and everyone else having those not-frigid, just very very dangerously cold temps, YEEP! Stay indoors, please. Holy moly you are having cold!
9:21 am on January 6th, 2014
Kat: Do you need to borrow one of our sleds to get your mama home tonight? We can also supply the musher.
9:36 am on January 6th, 2014
That is a very good idea, Tenzing. I am very worried about her slip-sliding away into all those creeks, when all that water flash freezes.
9:37 am on January 6th, 2014
Yeep! I just recieved intel that there is a trio of very bloated Thieves and one evil pug in Rio’s backyard. My intel also states there is a message scrawled in hot wing sauce that reads: Worth it. Burp!
10:00 am on January 6th, 2014
Good morning all. It is a frosty -18 here with wind chills of -45. Not going to warm up till tomorrow. Barb is only going out as far as the bird feeder and the mailbox today.
Have a plumber coming to check our water heater. BBL
Everyone under the Quilt, stay toasty. Be careful Howler’s mom.
10:25 am on January 6th, 2014
Now down to 17 here in TN. We understand this isn’t bad for some of y’all but here is the driveway from hades (hope it comes out).

And trust us..it is slick. Mom almost landed on her keister.
10:26 am on January 6th, 2014
ANOTHER “scientific” Study? Now my fur is getting ruffled.
B: Will have to go back and read more. My eyes started glazing over and I only saw every other word.
Barb&Magpie: Did you say Water Heater? We are assuming the pilot light is out Again. Hope the plumber is able to come with the inclement weather and all.
Royal Mum: The News that you are Feeling Better did our hearts good. Thank Dog!
On the other paw. Our Pixie is Traveling Again to the Top of the World. Worse still, she will be incommunicado. Yeep.
Oley’s Mom & Pop: Please be careful driving tonight. We will be worried until we know you have reached Home Safely.
You too, Hounds, Stay where you are!
10:37 am on January 6th, 2014
HOH, Sorry but compared to what we have, that doesn’t look so bad.
Bear, No we still have hot water, but this weekend it started leaking a little. They just left and said the heater is rusting and will need to be replaced soon. Then they quoted $1100 to $1250. Think we are going to have to call our handy man, Eric, and make a trip to the big box store.
10:39 am on January 6th, 2014
BDS, not to worry. If mom can’t keep her footing, she figures the Scooter-roo can’t either. On our little hilltop till it warms up.
10:57 am on January 6th, 2014
Just at freezing here (32). The furthest we will be venturing out this morning will be to the mailbox.
B: Would you use furthest or farthest in that last sentence?
Beau & Siber: Looking forward to the big Groundhog Day game.
Rose lives nearby. Maybe we can camp-out with her and the Prof.
11:09 am on January 6th, 2014
Good morning everyone, I won’t trouble you with the weather here except to say that people are wearing shorts.
Melanie–Have you noticed that “jeeze” is one of those words with no defined orthography? Apparently can also be rendered as “jeez” “geez” (or possibly “geeze”) and even “cheez(e)”. Kind of like “whisky” and “whiskey”. Anyone on pain pills today might enjoy speculating further about this…
Be well, all…
11:11 am on January 6th, 2014
We propose a scientific study to find out just how much time and money scientists waste on things that are either too obvious for words, or too inconsequential to matter to anyone but the scientist doing the study (and thereby getting the money)
Yup, Mama is feeling better.
11:14 am on January 6th, 2014
Greetings!
To those who are freezing and those who are not, please stay safe.
Royal Mum: I am glad you are feeling better. Tuck the quilt nice and tight around you and go back to sleep.
To our Pixie: The horror! Going to the top of the world in your condition. I will be worrit until you make a safe return.
It is raining here in Croton on Hudson and last I heard about 40 degrees. The temperature is expected to plunge into single digits, and tomorrow’s high is expected to 13. These are the reports for the city. We will be even colder.
Masquers: Ah, the Super Bowl. It is being held in NJ where both the Jets and the Giants play. Everyone thought this would be a rivalry Super Bowl, between the two (is that even possible?). At the very least it was expected that Eli would take the Giants to another victory. Oh, well!
But yes, we can party here! My apartment isn’t that big, but we are all friends here. : ) I will start ordering kegs and hot wings!
11:27 am on January 6th, 2014
B&M: Sounds like the plumber’s quote is mostly labor. Most hot water heaters retail at less than $500. Eric would be a good choice.
The Royal Mum is on her soapbox. Yes! I can tell she is feeling better.
Rose: Excellent! Riö will be jazzed. (whispering) we must start working on a decoy so his friend won’t know he has left his back yard.
Good morning Diane!
11:35 am on January 6th, 2014
Masquers, Barb was surprised at the price for sure. Our local big box store, Menards, is running a sale till the 11th. It is an 11% in store rebate on any purchases, so if Eric says he can do it, then the plan is to purchase one before Saturday.
11:42 am on January 6th, 2014
B&M, the one we put in (er Daddy Dawg & the boarder i t b) is 50 gallons and for all the parts with it was right at $600.
11:44 am on January 6th, 2014
Masquers, maybe a brown fur jacket on Beau ?
11:59 am on January 6th, 2014
-11 temp, -31 wind chill and travel advisory, so we’re staying in. Siber-H and the Howlers – 12″ blowing and drifting, even enough for you guys.
I’m lying in the sun. The parental units are bingeing on Justified and BBC Sherlock.
Stay warm and safe and well, Everybody.
12:09 pm on January 6th, 2014
This is another of those studies that are no-brainers…jeez
Instead of spending money on these studies, why don’t they just phone a few dog owners.
Golinka, We are glad you are feeling better because last night we were pretty worried.
Rebecca, We are also worried about you still experiencing pain.
12:10 pm on January 6th, 2014
I am still sitting here in my jammies. I have to see the lady parts doc at 1 for my yearly, so some time between now and then I should probably get dressed. I seem to be in a panic induced inability to move. I guess if I was retired instead of just unemployed I could enjoy goofing off more.
12:16 pm on January 6th, 2014
Masquers: The usage rule is that “farther” is used for physical distance and “further” for a nonphysical dimension. (“We won’t do further research on the dog paddle until we get more funding.”) I don’t think it really matters. The distinction is relatively recent.
12:18 pm on January 6th, 2014
Bluekat: Laying in the sun…sounds good to moi…but where is it?
Rose: Sounds good for Beau, but what about our pal Riö?
Siber: Do you have any ideas?
Macy: My mom would sometimes like to stay in her jammies, but for some reason feels guilty for not getting dressed. Unprepared might be a better word.
Thank you, B, I will make a note of it for future reference.
12:26 pm on January 6th, 2014
Masquers, I always have ideas. Is your queston about how to keep Rio warm? We can borrow a Russian coat from Natasha to keep Rio warm and he can set between me and the Howlers.
12:31 pm on January 6th, 2014
Oh, I feel guilty all right. Just not enough to get up and get moving. However, hair must be washed before doctor time, so I guess it is time to get after it. meh
Mr. Husky, grammar police may be on your tail.
12:33 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom and Stover…I found the mistake.
sit, sit, sit, sit, sit, sit. sit, sit, sit
12:35 pm on January 6th, 2014
Siber: We are discussing how to get Riö out of his backyard. His friend’s rule could cause a problem. What do you think…disguise or decoys for him and Beau? (maybe we could hire actors to be doppelgangers while they are on the East Coast. YSAS would be a good one to ask. As for staying warm…are you saying the football stadium is outside? gulp.
12:46 pm on January 6th, 2014
Well, We could get some cardboard cutouts of Rio and Beau and stick them in the backyard. Or, there is a lady that lives by my dogpark that has around 7 pugs. I could pugnap a couple of those for 24 hours to replace Rio and Beau.
I do not know if this Superbowl stadium is enclosed or not.
Wose? Do you know?
12:47 pm on January 6th, 2014
Masquers, yes Giant/Jet Stadium is a lovely new stadium that does not have a dome. So if the weather continues to be cold and snowy, youse will have to pretend like you a cheesehead! BRRRRRRRRR!
12:49 pm on January 6th, 2014
Having visited my BFF blog friend Wose at her apartment last fall, I can tell you that it is a great place for a partay!!!! She even has extra special puppy treats. See you all there for the Super Bowl (or is that Supper Bowl — I get confused).
12:50 pm on January 6th, 2014
Siber-H: With all the money spent on the new YANKEE STADIUM, and CITIFIELD, no one had a single thought about wanting to put a dome on either one.
12:51 pm on January 6th, 2014
New stadium? No dome? What were they thinking!
12:51 pm on January 6th, 2014
Masquers, they weren’t.
12:54 pm on January 6th, 2014
Teddy: (whispering) I will have an overflowing supper bowl and plenty of treats for you, you, you! I am still worrit that you aren’t getting enough to eat.
12:57 pm on January 6th, 2014
Teddy: I, personally, Like Your Definition best. Supperbowl! Heh, heh. It always is, isn’t it?
And, on Groundhog Day no less. Remember what happened last year. Phil is probably Still Running.
1:05 pm on January 6th, 2014
IMHO Football should be played outside anyway.
1:11 pm on January 6th, 2014
We’re with Siber-H on that. Football=outside=cold
1:21 pm on January 6th, 2014
The Green Bay fans don’t mind the cold. They showed a picture on the news yesterday of one fan defrosting his can of beer on the tailgating grill. One player had on short sleeves. Brrr.
1:23 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom: Since I got kicked to the curb from my job, I am in the panicky mode too. I feel your pain.
1:25 pm on January 6th, 2014
The Cheeseheads are a hearty bunch, and very loyal to their team. I believe they may paid regular citizens to shovel out the stadium whenever it snows.
1:31 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom, our mom is sooooo upset with you for spoiling future DA episodes with your post from last night 🙁 Yes, it is true that after dark the Daddy Dawg controls the remote and only watches “shoot ’em up, bang, bangs”…you know: western= seubb with a drawl, sci-fi= seubb in space, modern= seubb with graphic injuries, animated= seubb with dwarves or coyotes. The Brits don’t seubb. Oh, wait, maybe someday DA will show up on daytime tv…nevermind.
1:39 pm on January 6th, 2014
I would make a prediction, but don’t want to jinx anything.
1:42 pm on January 6th, 2014
Did anyone notice that the biologist reporting on that study was named Frank Fish. Can’t make this stuff up!
There is a theory that some early humanoid creatures reentered the sea and became mermaid like beings. Spooky, not that we believe it!
1:48 pm on January 6th, 2014
HOH, I am truly hoping that your post is tounge-in-cheek. I think the description of last night’s episode was pretty general.
Rose, thanks for the support. I am dressed now. I also have to go get my expired drivers license renewed IN PERSON. I have used up all my by mail and on-line times. Gah. If you don’t here from me again have someone check the DPS office for my body.
1:58 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom: There is a limit to DL renewals by mail?
B&M: Frank Fish…chortle…too funny!
2:01 pm on January 6th, 2014
Wose? Do you know what Yankee legend has died at age 89? This bit is on my home pager, but the story won’t open for me.
2:19 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom, tongue firmly in cheek, thought you needed a laugh, you sounded down and the DA post was funny.
2:20 pm on January 6th, 2014
Siber, It is Jerry Coleman, but we have no idea who that is.
2:25 pm on January 6th, 2014
Thank you Barb. I have no idea either who Jerry Coleman was.
2:33 pm on January 6th, 2014
Jerry Coleman was the voice of the San Diego Padres for years and before that was a baseball player whose career was interrupted by the war.
2:36 pm on January 6th, 2014
B&M: There are some far out stories of the lengths the former Green Bay Packers manager, Vince Lombardi, would go to to insure his team would win by making use of the home field advantage and the cold temperatures.
Jerry Coleman was famous for being the Padres broadcaster in later years. He also played for the Yankees.

2:37 pm on January 6th, 2014
HOH: You bet me to it!
2:42 pm on January 6th, 2014
B. Stover–thanks for the information. I had wondered about the distinction…
2:52 pm on January 6th, 2014
Masquers, only beat you because we read it yesterday, remembered him from our SD days.
2:56 pm on January 6th, 2014
Good to know the Supper Game Partay tradition will continue!
The Hudson Bay Vortex – where do they come up with these names – hit while we were in the grocery store. Being a human barometer, I could tell because my back and hips froze up. I told the checker that I would have to leave the cart next to the car, because I wouldn’t be able to bring it back in. He was nice.
Zoë and I did get our Thai lunch. The dogs were very good. We are taking them every time we go out in the car. Helps with Mac’s grieving. Treats abounded. So did kisses and ear rubs.
Pouring rain in the valley. The Votext (scary music here) hit and by the time we made it home, snow, ice and slush. We are not going anywhere until my appointment tomorrow. The Powers That Be should have the road sanded by then.
Heating pad, hot tea and a movie on my iPaw.
2:59 pm on January 6th, 2014
My avatar disappeared. Anyhoo, I would use further or furthest when talking about dogs or Kats.
Movie? Nap? Difficult decision.
3:15 pm on January 6th, 2014
Melanie, live dangerously, throw caution to the wind…do both at once, then do it again 🙂
3:33 pm on January 6th, 2014
In the spirit of the end of season, the courage of the peoples of the frozen north, and the dogs who share their lives–
This video from the small Yupiq Eskimo Village of Quinhagak, Alaska, has a school computer project intended for the other Yupiq villages in the area. Much to the villagers’ shock, over a half million people have viewed it.
I think you’ll also enjoy (ignore the repeated punctuation error)

3:46 pm on January 6th, 2014
Heh, Melanie, was just going say Where is Your Avatar. Explain to us about the Hudson Bay Vortex. We are only familiar with the Sedona Vortexes.
And, after that, I would suggest a Nap.
Wow! Diane-C. That’s Cool.
3:58 pm on January 6th, 2014
Diane, you are getting into this stuff. Actually it was the Golena school video that helped the HOH to choose them as their check point (that and Chet the Jet already had Shaktolik)
4:24 pm on January 6th, 2014
The Vortex (cue the scary music) is just a bitter cold trough from the artic. I swear weatherpeople just want to scare us.
I did do both, HOH. I am staying upstairs for the rest of the evening. I might even get my Jammie’s on before five.
Steve and Moe, our occasionally commenters, sent me this link. I have no idea if this is how AJ packs his sled for the Iditarod, but it is cool.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4VhGe2ytIN0
I will now watch Diane’s link.
4:29 pm on January 6th, 2014
Melanie, I never knew a man could get so much stuff organized in a small space!
4:29 pm on January 6th, 2014
Diane. I have seen that before and always brings job to my heart.
Thank you.
4:31 pm on January 6th, 2014
My brothers can, HOH. He drives me insane. He practices packing to make sure everything will get in and that is just for a trip in the car.
4:42 pm on January 6th, 2014
Melanie–I have to wait and go back to watch the packing video, or feel depressed that I’m so much less organized at the moment.
HOH–Golena school video? There’s a whole universe of these? An opera/music pal sent that one to me and I immediately thought of this group…
5:00 pm on January 6th, 2014
Back around Turkey Day, Awesome Dawson was showing gov’t sponsored videos made by kids in some of the check point towns to raise $$$ to sponsor check points.
5:18 pm on January 6th, 2014
The storm has started here in Buffalo. Pretty nasty already and they’re closing the Thruway from here to the Pennsylvania State line and the skyway at 8 PM.
5:21 pm on January 6th, 2014
Has anyone watched the latest episode of Elementary? When did they show that they found the kidnapped girl?
5:36 pm on January 6th, 2014
HI guys, I just checked in to see if you’re all okay and, most importantly, indoors! Stay warm. It sounds incredible over there. Warm and sunny here …
5:41 pm on January 6th, 2014
Liz – wanna trade weather? Our latest forecast is for a blizzard until Wednesday morning. Three feet of snow in some places. We are safe in our hotel apartment with a restaurant downstairs. We have a jigsaw puzzle and now will need another one.
5:44 pm on January 6th, 2014
Princess, stay safe. Know our weather is a joke to y’all in the north east, but a high of 16 today was brutal for here. Tonight will be 4 :(. Mom has been testing her AK clothes to see if she can feel anything. Her thought is if she is sweating here, she might be ok there…
5:46 pm on January 6th, 2014
Frozen!….Our kibbles are frozen here Liz…sniff!…It was -17 below this morning…grunt!…Needless to say Beau and I did not get off the patio at any point for any reason the whole moment we were stuck outside….shudder!
5:48 pm on January 6th, 2014
Grunt!…How does Beau manage to get his logon to show up when he never posts?…grumble!
5:49 pm on January 6th, 2014
Liz, don’t forget the sunscreen 🙂
MPM: Mom’s b i l in Niles, MI (just north of South Bend IN) has 3 feet of snow in his yard so don’t be surprised.
5:50 pm on January 6th, 2014
Our local news just showed the polar bears at our zoo. It is so cold they wouldn’t even swim in their pool. They stayed out of the water and played around on the banks.
6:01 pm on January 6th, 2014
Just now the New York State governor issued a state of emergency for Western new York. Oh boy!
6:06 pm on January 6th, 2014
Lucky you! Stay safe and warm. Keep in touch so we know y’all are ok.
6:13 pm on January 6th, 2014
They have upped our high tomorrow! From 7 to 9 degrees. Woo Hoo!
I have been put to bed by Zoë. Between vortexes (snort), cold and driving, I am beat.
Mattie is outside announcing to the neighborhood that it is her favorite weather. The rest of us are inside.
Diane, please excuse my typing, that should have been “joy” not “job”. Rolling eyes here.
6:43 pm on January 6th, 2014
Hmm, I am pressing all the wrong buttons tonight.
Anyhoo, this for B. Stover.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_of_cetaceans
I am considering becoming an aquatic animal. I just have to find some non-toxic, no radiation, no orcas, no sharks, warm water within to crawl.
7:05 pm on January 6th, 2014
OMD! Liz! We missed you by a hair. Just wanted to tell you that last night we watched the Movie, Red Dog, that you recommended a while back. Loved, Loved, Loved it!!! It is a film that grabs you by the Heartstrings and never lets go.
7:06 pm on January 6th, 2014
Melanie,In the 60’s & 70’s mom used to her Mama out to a place called Desert Hot Springs, CA (not far from Palm Springs. The town was aptly names for multitudinous hot springs in the area. Many motels and RV parks have warm spring pools (right up to scale your eyebrows off. She loved it as it relieved her osteoporosis by counteracting gravity and acting like a heating pad all at once.
7:14 pm on January 6th, 2014
HOH, I figured you were messing with me, but…
Masquers, in Texas you have to go in for renewals every other time, so about every 12 years. I hate giving up my 12-years-younger photo, but the new one is not too bad. Now I have to go get my license plates renewed. I will have to give up my Macy7 vanity plates for economy. bummer, they made it easier to find my white SUV in a sea of white SUVs.
7:32 pm on January 6th, 2014
Melanie: The Wikipedia link on the evolution of cetaceans was absolutely fascinating! Mom loves stuff like this.
You were explaining about the Hudson Bay Vortex…we have a similar unusual weather phenomenon here in the Sound called the Convergence Zone…where two colliding forces will meet and interact, resulting in distinctive weather conditions. The weather guys always say…the weather will be such and such…UNLESS you are in the Convergence Zone.
7:34 pm on January 6th, 2014
Boy, are we ever glad we don’t live in Buffalo. 3 feet of snow is tough with you are only about 18 inches high yourself. And Chicago at negative 35 degrees? How do those people live?
We are with Melanie, and Mama says she would come back as a killer whale. Somehow she thinks that kind of matches her personality. Plus, when you only wear black and white, it is easy to accessorize.
7:43 pm on January 6th, 2014
Thank you Melanie.
7:44 pm on January 6th, 2014
T&G, especially with Harbor Seal lipstick and eau de pilot whale.
7:44 pm on January 6th, 2014
Not the Macy7 plate! Say it ain’t so!
We learn something new every day. Tonight’s lesson was that not every wind chill is created equal. While the weather guys calculate wind chill using temperature of the air, and speed of the wind, there is no way to be accurate about how cold it feels. This wind tonight ifeels like it is straight out of Canada, and it is cold. It is still 25 out, with a wind chill of 19, but weather.com is giving it a much more realistic “feels like” of 12. This elevator is going down fast.
7:46 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom: Here our driver’s licenses are only good for 5 years. Don’t know how many times a license can be renewed by mail, but we are hoping for at least 2, preferably 3.
We had to get new auto license plates this year also. Then, soon after, my mom ran across a branch in the road during a wind storm and the front plate got crunched. It is now temporarily sitting in the front car window.
Royal Mum: It is so good to hear your voice.
7:49 pm on January 6th, 2014
B: Funny! Knowing you love Elementary, we were going to ask you the same thing.
7:50 pm on January 6th, 2014
Even though the governor of New York state has declared a snow emergency, everybody will be out driving and doing whatever they want to do. They are sure that the driving ban is meant for someone else and they have important things to do.
7:53 pm on January 6th, 2014
Wegmans large parking lot was completely full and no one could get in. People were out buying all the milk bread and eggs. Just as Golinka had said they are all having French toast tomorrow.
8:01 pm on January 6th, 2014
The Howlers mom and pop are safe at home. Thank Kat! (no, not you Katrina. Unless you were pulling the sled up the driveway.) Everyone else in the face of the storm hunker down and wait.
(whispering) unless you are having french toast in the morning. ☺
8:05 pm on January 6th, 2014
Tomorrow we will get a little break, and it will be 5 above 0. By Friday it will be 35 and raining. Then there is chance of flooding. Anyone say Climate Change?
We are going to order Red Dog. Thanks Masquers and Bear.
8:09 pm on January 6th, 2014
So happy your folks are home safe. Stay there!
We just ordered Red Dog, and put it in #1 position at Netflix.
8:36 pm on January 6th, 2014
Macy’s Mom, we were kidding you about the DA series. We weren’t kissing about the Old Fart and the seubbs.
We may come close to a record low ever here in s.e. TN. Our hatches are battened and our fire is stoked.
8:37 pm on January 6th, 2014
GAH…KIDDING not kissing 🙁 darned ipaw.
8:38 pm on January 6th, 2014
Barb&Magpie: We just know you will Love It too. The story is based on an Australian Legend of a dog that roamed the continent. If memory serves (and sometimes it doesn’t) we remember Liz saying that she got her new member of the Nation Within after seeing Red Dog. Anyone who has streaming video can watch it instantly on Netflix. Let us know if the DVD has extra features.
8:50 pm on January 6th, 2014
Three feet of snow? 17 below and frozen kibbles?? Polar bears won’t swim?!?! This is terrible…although the french toast sounds pretty good. I just can’t imagine being anywhere that cold, can’t even think about Alaska even on a good day! is it worse up there or is it just regular weather for Snowhook?
Why would anyone want to drive around!?
How great that Barb loved Red Dog, the star of the film is almost as good looking as Ruby! 🙂 Hope everyone enjoys it (see it sounds like i directed it, since i also have a red dog!)
Sunscreen, good thinking…here’s my back yard at the moment.

LizF: Is there a photo of your Red Dog, Ruby, on Friends of Chet? Heh, heh. Sounds like she may have one or two Siber traits.

9:15 pm on January 6th, 2014
Liz, Alaska is 34°. I would love to be there right now. We are freezing to death here. We have stupid people here. They all drive no matter what. We are also near Niagara Falls and people in their boats go too close. Then the Coast Guard has to come and rescue them before they go over the falls.
9:16 pm on January 6th, 2014
Noone should have to work in that weather.
Masquers, yes there is! and here she is at the beach on Christmas morning.

9:17 pm on January 6th, 2014
Now I’m Hungry for French Toast.
Rio: Isn’t the Subaru famous for making it through All Kinds of Winter Weather? Every time a commercial comes on I think of the Subaru Dogs (and that one Kat).

Sammie!…What a great idea on how to get rid of unwanted guests!…snort!…Put ’em in a boat and send them off over the Falls…heh!heh!…This could work for multitudes of rotten rotters…snort!

I can’t believe the river doesn’t freeze and they get stuck halfway over the falls!
9:36 pm on January 6th, 2014
Liz – Ruby really is a lovely dog. So glad you have some furry love in your life again.
Rio – who is making you nervous? Just let us at ’em. You know our motto “Death from the ankles down!”
HOH – “eau du pilot whale”? Really?
9:40 pm on January 6th, 2014
Liz, that river is moving so quickly it will never freeze.
9:41 pm on January 6th, 2014
I’m thinking about making French toast for breakfast.
LizF, Ruby lookin good. Is that a small pond in your backyard?
Killer whale, hey? I can see the match. snicker
I have always like the ideas of otters. They have so much fun.
River otters aren’t Munchies for sharks, orcas, and leopard seals.
River in top flow in the back of the house. Ice has melted, and will be forming again soon. Wind is high. Glad to be in bed.
No problem, B. Stover.
Time for me to say good night. Meet the new doc tomorrow, and explain that I want things to happen NOW!
9:46 pm on January 6th, 2014
Shenanigans!…Nothing makes me nervous, but a lot of stuff makes me angry…grunt!…Beau is having trouble figuring out the smelly old one is staying with us for an undocumented amount of time…sniff!phew!…He cannot get his head around a stranger in the extra bedroom….snuffle!

Riö: This sounds ominous. Now you’ve got us curious about the mysterious visitor. Wonder what’s up.
Will Melanie even be able to keep the appointment with the weather being so unpredicable?
10:03 pm on January 6th, 2014
Melanie, make sure the new doc understands/Understands/UNDERSTANDS you. Hey, tell him to put on his listening ears.
Rio, all visitors are ominous.
10:03 pm on January 6th, 2014
Goodnight everybody. Have a great day Liz. Thanks for stopping by.
10:17 pm on January 6th, 2014
With this unprecedented cold snap in mind, has anyone else seen the movie “The Day After Tomorrow”? Scared the poo out of us. Ok, so there was a lot of silly, inexplicable things about the movie, but all in all, it was scary to think about what could happen.
For some reason, Melanie didn’t want Mama to go with her to the new doc. Hmmm…wonder if it had anything to do with leftover flu germs, or is she was afraid Mama would be wearing Eau du Orca perfume.
Hope Bella is ok at the top of the world tonight. Maybe the cold up there will help her poor chipmunk cheeks.
10:18 pm on January 6th, 2014
Good night from here. Good luck tomorrow with the new doc, Melanie. Tell them to get started!
Liz, we would like to be sitting in your back yard. We should have Red Dog by Thursday.
10:34 pm on January 6th, 2014
Have not heard from Buddy and Leno in a bit. Hope they are home safe with his Melanie and Alena and puppies as Erie is getting Pounded (and we don’t mean dog house/pound). Lordy, lordy miz Charolette, look at the time! Nighty night.

11:21 pm on January 6th, 2014

11:26 pm on January 6th, 2014
Rio: What are the chances Beau will jump on the smelly old one in the middle of the night?
DianeC: I did find some videos of small Alaskan towns by googling the name of the town + “Alaska videos”. Several school classes had made videos of their town. The one you posted is excellent.
Nice and warm up here today. Well, warmer than many of you. More snow though. Way, way too much snow.
Melanie: Get some good rest tonight in preparation for a busy day tomorrow. Hope the doctor has the wax cleaned out of his ears. I have to go back to watch the Iditarod sled packing video.
LizF: Ruby looking good and your garden looks so inviting. Would like to sit and have a cup of tea with you.
Matilda the Newf is tougher than a New York polar bear!

Liz F–Lovely. Where are you?
Mel–thinking of you and wish you a successful day.
Pugs–Does “shenanigans” mean the same here as it does in English or is this like blurring and smoochers (i.e. with a particular meaning)?
