Way To Go, Missy!

“Here’s something interesting from out in Oregon wine country,” Bernie says, turning the page in the paper. “This eleven-year-old Dachshund named Missy ran into a neighbor’s yard. The neighbor, Charles Mitchell, tried to get Missy to go home, but she refused. Missy would only leave when he went with her, and when he did, he found the neighbor, Charlie Burdon – hmm, a Charles and a Charlie in the same story? – collapsed inside his house. Charlie was taken to the hospital and is recovering from an attack of vertigo.”

Vertigo? That’s a new one. But the story reminds me a little bit of something that happened down in Mexico, when we were down there on the Peanut case. Peanut! Her smell! Amazing! That’s in To Fetch A Thief.

You were right, Staff! But when is Riö not annoyed? Oh, yeah, when the Rookies win.

    Way to go Wöökie!

Oh, someone asked what a service dog is . . yesterday. From "Wikipedia" . . a type of assistance dog, specifically trained to help people who have disabilities other than visual or hearing impairment."

Some are trained, some trained themselves. I know a wonderful Corgi who trained herself to alert her mom when her mom's sugar levels dropped into dangerous levels. Pretty cool! She's got a vest that says "Service Dog" and she's very proud of it.

Rosie Gray has two new postings. Turns out some guy wanted to cook a cat and had it marinating in his trunk. The cat is still alive. Now if I had covered any of the Pack with oil and seasoning they would be in seventh heaven. . I don't think Kat's would find this as fun.

Is it just me or there more and more nuts coming out of the woodwork. Oh, wait, that would be bedbugs coming out of the woodwork.

Good going, Wookster! Maybe some day we will be smart enough to get a hat tip.

Barb is tired after a long, long day with the teenage boys and their helicopter parents. Parents that hover over their children ALL DAY LONG! At 8:00 last night when we thought they were packing up to leave, they brought in a box of home movies of the kids when they were little. Oh boy!!

Rio. Sorry, it was actually my dad who passed the tip onto Spence; I tried to stop him, knowing that it would likely distract Chet, but my dad apparently has a mind of his own on things like this.

Everybody. Just to let you know that my dad did make contact with Cosmo's mom, who was very agreeable to having Cosmo be part of the quilt and I think she will send a photo of Cosmo directly to Staff. Things have been very busy/complicated in their lives which has made it difficult to post, but Cosmo's mom asked us to pass on warm greetings from her and Cosmo, and they do hope to some day be able to become more active again in the blog. In the meantime, Cosmo is continuing his work as a therapy dog. Good going, Cosmo.

OK, everyone, here is the Cowboy Caviar recipe:

1 can of each, drained and rinsed: black beans, pinto beans, blackeyed peas

1 can white corn, drained (Can use fresh cooked corn if in season)

    1 cup chopped green pepper

    1 cup chopped celery

    1/2 cup chopped onion

    1 small jar pimentos (optional)

1 or two chopped sweet banana peppers

    Bring to a boil:

    1 cup salad oil

    1/2 cup vinegar

    1/2 cup white sugar

    1/2 tsp. salt

    1/4 tsp. pepper

Cool and then pour over mixture, chill. May be made the day before. Serve with corn chips.

Optional adds: chopped tomato, avacado, cilantro, lime juice.

    B. Stover: It is thought there is a slight difference in smell. When the dog notices it she gets up on her back feet and places her head in her mom's lap and then gives the paw until she is noticed. This is very unusual. Otherwise at work, she stays under the desk, with an occasional lick of the ankle.

Thought that Kat story would get Alice riled!

Oooohhhhh, that sounds good. We're hoping to get to a grocery store in the next week. We haven't been to one in three weeks. Getting low on food.

The PT person came for Dan today. We all listened. We all know what he CAN and CAN'T do. Zoë has hidden the cane, thrown out the exercise bands and he's allowed to walk until Friday when she comes again. Not outside though. Too humid and hot.

Guess who decided to cancel the home health aide? Zoë and I have now reinstated that.

    Barb and Maggie,

We have a version of that recipe. We dip tostitoes scoopables in it and then you get lots on each chip. Our version uses 1 small bottle of Italian dressing instead of homemade and adds a can of ro-tel tomatoes and green chili's.

We don't use the banana peppers but I like that idea.

The quilt is AWESOME!! Thank you so much, staff and especially Wookie's mom. Mom says I look quite handsome, but I haven't seen it myself.

Wookie – you got a tip of the hat!! Cool!!

I like Tulip. First of all, she has a pretty name and second of all, she is a good patter. Seems to me she is a little old for Ray, but then again, maybe not.

I'm still worried about Astrid. Why did Foster take her suitcases? Maybe she asked him to??

Rosie is too racy for me. I'm still reading young adult books.

    B. Stover: You are a fast embroiderer.

Melanie: Give my regards to George and Gertie. And: Sounds as if it is in Dans' best interests for you to "listen in" so that the PT gets an accurate assessment of what Dan can do. I finished his on-line book and enjoyed it. I didn't like the ending at first but the more I thought about it the more I liked it and finally it had me laughing.

Mollypop, Sam, Lexie: We miss you.

Cosmos: One of our therapy dogs.

There is an article on the Huffington Post regarding Navarro, the poor kitty who was going to be someone's lunch, and includes a photo. He is very handsome. (Navarro, not the weirdo.) Apparently the weirdo ran and stop sign and the officer heard Navarro meowing from the trunk. The weirdo was arrested and released.

Macy! Some people just don't get life. Baby Bosses are the worst! Dogs understand that it's the relationships that count, not who has the most what nots at the end. In fact, life's a journey and might as well have as much fun as a dog (and kat) because humans don't seem to enjoy it much!

Ahhhhh…I am soooo relaxed. I spent my morning at the spa, getting my hair and nails done. Mom says I look beautiful. I agree. Now my mom is going to squirt some stuff on my neck (she does this after every spa date) to keep the itchies and wigglies away. I'm not really sure what that is, since my mom loves to scratch me all over and I get the wiggles anyway. I think that squirt stuff is not working. Off for a nap. TTFN.

Rio – please let "YOUR" friend know that she might want to take a beginning quilt class in a local shop that specializes in or at least has an orientation towards contemporary or art quilting. That way she can learn the basics of rotary cutting and sewing a simple straight line (the majority of ALL quilting-nothing fancy) while not having her creative juices be dulled by people who believe in the perfect 1/4 inch seam or perfect points. But rather believe in letting your creative expression soar as a fiber artist! There is one very creative fiber artist in my quilt guild who is in a number of shows and sells her work but she can't run a sewing machine very well!

Rio, I second what Debbie LM said about the quilting class. If you took a normal beginning class you would probably be bored out of your skull. Your artistic vision is quite advanced. You have your own way and a teacher who wanted you to do it the "right" way would be the wrong teacher for you.

We would like to hear from Mollypop, too.

Barb is heading to bed. Still tired after the teenage boys, water park, helicopter mom and dad, cook out and the home movies of yesterday. See you guys tomorrow. Sweet dreams and tail wags.

Rio, Yes Kirby said his family was going on vacation, but I don't know when. He and Buford were going to be kenneled at their vet's office. Kirby didn't seem to mind.

Humm!… The Haven episode I watched tonight was one of the strangest yet , and it actually had a bit of meat on it… snort!…Babies and Old Men. How many times is this theme going to be done?.. snort!…But the ending was not the usual slap in the face ending, so I give it a half finger up in rating… grunt!… I think I only watch this show to see the coast of Maine! …sniffle!… We here love the state of Maine… sigh!

Hey Guys! Sorry I haven't been in touch, but Buford and I are vacationing at the vet's kennel while Mom and Dad and our boy and girl are on their vacation. Buford says hi, by the way. I can't write too long, but Buford helped me sneak out of our run and into the office to use their computer.

Staff: The quilt is looking good! I love where you have my square, and Buford will, too, when I tell him. Thanks again for all you're doing!

Rio: Sorry I haven't been around to discuss baseball. I visited ESPN.com real quick to catch up, and it looks like my Angels are on a three-game winning streak! Unfortunately, though, the Angels and the Rockies are both 7 1/2 games out. Dagnabit! If they're going to make their moves, they'd better hurry!

And to everyone who was wondering, yes, Mom works at a library. Except this week, because she's on vacation.

Sorry, gotta run. Better get back to Buford before the old guy gets too scared being alone! Oh, and by the way, we live next to Georgia — when Mom gets back I'n going to see if she can visit PA and SQ when they go there!

So why suddenly do we appear to have some sort of outbreak issue involving bed bugs in the united states I worked at a local University for thirty years and didn’t have trouble until a couple of years ago?
