Good morning, everyone! We are glad, Glad, GLAD that Ranger was rescued and hope his human walks in safer places in the future. We were awakened at 6:05 AM to boomers and a gully washer. More than boomers, actually more like foundation shakers. Be assurred that the HOH found any languising dust bunnies under the peeps’ bed.
Have a foul weather or Fowl weather day depending on where you might be.
9:28 am on April 10th, 2015
Momma and I watched the Ranger news, and she is crying. Oh brother.
Me? I came indoors because it felt like cookie time. Now Momma won’t let me back out. She thinks my leg needs resting. grump

Poor misunderstood Kat! Mom only does those annoying things because she loves you, you, you 🙂

Hope Barb checks in this morning. There were multiple tornadoes in northern Illinois last night. We watched the weather Chanel for a while, and it looked like she was ok. Now we find there were more storms.
Waiting, tapping paws anxiously.
9:42 am on April 10th, 2015
Been watching that here, too. We are wih you on waiting for Barb.
9:53 am on April 10th, 2015
I’m glad Ranger is okay.
We have a wind advisory here–up to 40 mile gusts.
Couldn’t get back on the blog yesterday afternoon. I kept getting a message that the site wasn’t available.
Good morning all.
9:58 am on April 10th, 2015
B, same here. The site was not available in the afternoon.
10:02 am on April 10th, 2015
MPM: I thought it was just my system. Wonder what the problem was.
10:37 am on April 10th, 2015
Checking in. We are A-OK. Made two trips to the basement last night but things were fine here. After we came back up we stood at the patio door and watched the light show and rain. Had some really large hail for about 5 minutes and then things calmed down.
We were really lucky – Fairdale, the little town of 150 people in DeKalbe county, is pretty much gone. I think it is probably 60-70 miles from here.
Today it is beautiful and quiet with a nice warming trend over the next week.
That was one lucky pup, and we agree, his person should take some safer walkies in the future.
10:59 am on April 10th, 2015
Barb – whew!
We are going off with a friend for a day of- ready for it? – cow shopping! Yup, she wants to get a cow for her mini farm.
This oughta be fun.
11:20 am on April 10th, 2015
Nice Rescue and Ranger is Safe!
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: Youse are all SAFE!!! Thank Dog for a Basement!
We feel very bad for that neighboring town of yours.
B & MP&LLMom: Same here…Could Not get on the Blog yesterday aft.
We knew it wasn’t us because everything else worked okay.
Kat: You Listen to Your Mom and take care of that leg.
11:41 am on April 10th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama: Cow shopping? Did I hear you right? Well at least it’s not clothes shopping…which would be a shame after all your hard work freeing up closet space.
HOH: Under the bed or not, you heart was in the right place…to protect your mom and dad during that fierce storm and that is the important thing.
11:49 am on April 10th, 2015
Thank Dog we heard from Barb, Maggie, and Lucy, and thank Dog they are A-O.K. But thee were lots of towns damaged and at least one loss of life in that havoc yesterday.
We are supposed to get bad storms here later today, but hopefully, not nearly as bad as Illinois had yesterday.
Cow shopping sounds like a lot of fun! Clothing shopping? Not so much!
Momma cancelled my doc appointment. That makes 2 appointments she made and cancelled, 2 days in a row. Heh! My other mama coached me on sucking it up and looking like I am hardly limping, and do NOT hold my left front leg up. As a reward, Momma gave me one of those delish treats that Mama Meash gets every day, on top of her food. Then, after I enjoyed it profusely, Momma praised me for eating it. This day has turned around quite nicely for me me me.
12:05 pm on April 10th, 2015
Kat: We are very glad to hear your paw is better today, and that you were rewarded with treats, but has your momma never hear the expression “don’t cry wolf”?
12:18 pm on April 10th, 2015
So happy to hear that you are better Kat.
Barb would LOVE to go cow shopping. She actually had a cow once. Her name was Tulip and she was a Jersey. One breed you don’t want is a Holstein. They are bred to give up to 100 lbs of milk per day (12 gallons). There are several small breeds that are ideal for the mini-farm. The only problem is that it really ties you down if you keep a milking cow, because usually they are milked twice a day.
Is your friend buying a calf or an adult cow?
12:24 pm on April 10th, 2015
Masquers, I am a Wolf, but I
neverseldom cry. Well, o.k. Maybe when Momma tells me to come in and I don’t wanna. But that doesn’t count.12:27 pm on April 10th, 2015
Check out these Easter cookies we just got! They were baked specially for us us us, by the baker at Joe Paws. T&G should remember her from the cake she made for me to bring to the mountains of Massachusetts.

12:56 pm on April 10th, 2015
Kat: Although there is a kat in that trio of treats, I do not think it is suitable for the likes of T.C. and me. sniff.
1:00 pm on April 10th, 2015
Masquers, Momma told me they are a pink bunny ( mine, ih honor of the bunny I ate half of yesterday), a tulip flower (Mama Meash’s), and a bunny head (Zeus’).
Was she wrong?
1:01 pm on April 10th, 2015
Whoa. 12 Gallons a Day? You could Feed the Neighborhood!
River’s Mom is into Painting Cows of late too. Cows…they are Everywhere!
1:04 pm on April 10th, 2015
Dear Kat: First of all…your momma is never wrong and secondly…that wasn’t a “real bunny” you ate half of yesterday…was it? Gasp.
1:08 pm on April 10th, 2015
Heh heh heh!
Siber-H would have been very proud of me.
1:18 pm on April 10th, 2015
At least I didn’t eat my squirrel. I just guarded it like a hawk for 3 days and got in a big fight with Lucy over it. Then Barb, the party pooper, threw it out!
Bear, some of the mini breeds give about 1-2 gals. per day, which is still a lot of milk.
1:50 pm on April 10th, 2015
Cows!…My friend tells a story about when she was a young’en her paw would milk the cows and all the barn Kats would sit up on their back legs and he would squirt milk into their mouths…heh!heh!…My friend liked to watch this I guess. She would laugh and laugh when the Kats got squirted…snorkel!
1:50 pm on April 10th, 2015
Kat, I am glad your paw is better, but I agree with your mom. You need to rest it.
I also had blog trouble yesterday afternoon.
I am glad Ranger was rescued and is okay.
Rio, the Rockies play an afternoon game, but I will not say a word about it.
1:56 pm on April 10th, 2015
Kat, they look like a bunny, an owl and a bunny head to me.
2:10 pm on April 10th, 2015
Boo, Meashka thinks she got a flower because she is so beautiful. Do NOT tell her tht was an owl! Snort!
TGIF
2:30 pm on April 10th, 2015
I see flowers on the owl.
They look tasty. It is lunch time.
2:48 pm on April 10th, 2015
We are so glad to hear from B&M&L and everyone else. Mom abandoned us to go to lunch with a few other ladies but the restaurant was under staffed for 3 BIG parties and to go orders (guess it happens) so the “girls” bussed tables and rolled flatware and helped with questions and delivered rolls. Was fun for a bit but they are all glad is isn’t an everyday thing. and they are all ready for a nap.
Cow shopping? did we read that right?
2:50 pm on April 10th, 2015
Our v e t is also a farmer and sells “shares” in his milk cows so you can have 1-3 gallons a week.
2:58 pm on April 10th, 2015
Hounds: Bet that Restaurant was Grateful for the Assistance.
Clever Idea…Selling Milk Shares.
SiberHMom: Time to Eat? Wait for Me!
3:03 pm on April 10th, 2015
Riõ: Morning shots of milk…sounds pretty kool. But you wouldn’t catch moi standing on my hind legs begging like a barn kat. No, you would not.
3:14 pm on April 10th, 2015
Maskers!…The barn Kats did not stand on their back legs. They sat up and begged. Barn Kats had to hunt their own grub, so getting milk shot into their mouths was like a holiday for them…heh!heh!
3:17 pm on April 10th, 2015
I woke up bored so I asked Gary if he would like to run errands with me. So we did, and went to Sonic for lunch and bought new harnesses for the dogs for our walk around the lake tomorrow. We brought them home and I tried Belle’s first. She made it clear with her teeth that she was not having it. Then we got Macy and Annie harnessed up and away we went for a trial run. Before we got to the end of the sidewalk all three dogs had escaped and were off. Like I said, Gary is a cat person, but he got his merit badge in dog wrangling today. Three blocks later we had two on the leash and one headed in the right direction. Tomorrow’s big walk is off.
3:20 pm on April 10th, 2015
Escape!…How in the heck do your guys escape from their harnesses?…snort!….Once Beau and I are snapped into our harnesses there is no escape. No way, no how …grunt!
3:23 pm on April 10th, 2015
Min-Pin: Shame on You! Giving your Mom so much trouble. That Walk Around the Lake she and Gary had planned for tomorrow Sounded Like Fun.
Cat People & Dog People. Will they get along? Waiting to see.
3:23 pm on April 10th, 2015
ML, I have the same question. How did they escape from a harness?
I don’t want you and Gary to have to give up the dog walking idea.
3:42 pm on April 10th, 2015
ML, How about a walk around the lake sans bad doggies? I volunteer to chaperone.
3:50 pm on April 10th, 2015
Kat – so glad that paw is better. Just go gentle for a day or two.
Macy MinPin – you are some naughty girls. Give your mom a break, ok?
So – cow shopping. My friend wanted a Dexter cow – they are very small cows of a heritage breed, and are good for either meat or milk. However, the one we went to see is two years old, pregnant and has never been handled by humans. The farmer and his wife are elderly, and can’t keep up the livestock and gardens anymore, so he is willing to give her a good deal on the cow, but we think she would be buying a whole load of trouble. The cow has never been vetted, they have no idea when she will give birth, she has full horns, and a bad attitude.
Doesn’t get our vote for being a backyard cow. We think we talked our friend out of this particular critter – it would be her fist cow, and we don’t think she needs to start off with a problem cow.
3:52 pm on April 10th, 2015
Hey Guys!!! Chet confirmed on facebook that the little dog on cover of SAS is Shooter, Chet’s son!!! Oh boy! I cannot wait to read SAS!!!
{whispering} Can we all pretend that Meashka gets to play the part of the she-dog across the canyon? (a.k.a Shooter’s mom)
3:57 pm on April 10th, 2015
Kat: No Need to Pretend. We are sure Meashka will get the part
3:59 pm on April 10th, 2015
Speaking of Movie Roles…Where is Princess Sammie these days? Do you think she is miffed because they never made that movie?
4:03 pm on April 10th, 2015
ML, the POP is bigger than y’all. How in dog’s green earth do you es-caw-pay? We think remedial harness handling is in order. Show those of the nation who is the “walkie boss”.
4:06 pm on April 10th, 2015
Meashka would be the best looking girl to play the part of the she-dog.
4:10 pm on April 10th, 2015
T & G, The Dexter is supposed to be a really good choice for the small farm/farmette. Already pg. means they could milk her soon. Horns normally are not a problem because the Dexter is said to have a good disposition. I think the Dexter is a good dual purpose breed, in case the calf is a bull calf. The deal breaker is that she has not been handled. Maybe ought to look for another cow.
We agree, the cookies are two bunnies and an owl with flowers.
4:12 pm on April 10th, 2015
Sounds like the harnesses were way too loose. Never heard of dogs wiggling out of a harness before. Did Macy actually try to bite Gary? Yikes. Gary may decide to stay a cat person!
4:15 pm on April 10th, 2015
Horns!…And a bad attitude?…snort!…That is not a good combination for any farmer in the dell…yeeeep!
5:00 pm on April 10th, 2015
Rio – your Friend is just lucky that YOU don’t have horns.
heh heh
5:13 pm on April 10th, 2015
So, T & G, what is a very good price for a bred Dexter cow? Do these people have a Dexter bull as well?
Rio, Barb’s earliest memory of her Grandfather is watching him milk their cow and squirting milk into HER mouth! She did not like warm milk. Gah!
Siber’s Mom. What was the trouble you had yesterday afternoon?
5:29 pm on April 10th, 2015
Barb – the guy wants to see her the prego cow for $500. Most Dexters in this area go for $1000 each.
Problem is trucking it to the farm and getting it vetted is going to coast her at LEAST the additional $500 – so why not get a younger cow without the attitude.
5:41 pm on April 10th, 2015
Barb, I believe I had the same problem as everyone else. It would say “this page cannot be displayed.
This has happened before, but not often.
5:58 pm on April 10th, 2015
OK, Agree with that opinion. Also if she has not been handled, getting her into a trailer would be a problem. When Barb picked up Tulip from the farmer, she was a little calf and they picked her up and put her in the conversion van. Thankfully she did not poop in the short ride home. Neighbors thought Barb had gotten a baby deer. That was about 30 years ago.
Sibes’s Mom, now I get it. Didn’t realize you were talking about the computer problem.
6:00 pm on April 10th, 2015
ML, here’s a pic of the front of Loulou in her harness. You can see the part that went over her head and the strap going down her chest. There’s another strap going down the back and then one more strap going around the belly and through each of those two. No escape.
Previously, Loulou had a step-in harness that the front legs stepped in and then hooked on the back. This was easy to get out of. She just backed up and pulled her head out.
6:17 pm on April 10th, 2015
Guess I didn’t realize there were different designs of harnesses. The one LouLou has is definitely the one I would get. Maggie has backed out of her collar, as her head is long and narrow. Remember when the mobile groomer came and took her into their van in the driveway? Maggie was so crazy with fear that she backed out of leash and took off. Luckily she stopped and the groomer caught her. Scary moment.
7:10 pm on April 10th, 2015
Mom got all different kinds of harnesses for us. Mine (LLtheL) is a beautiful red mesh that I put my nose through and mom does a strap around my tummy. Blondie’s looks just like LouLou’s, it is even pink. The Newf harness has an over the head and breast piece and a tummy strap. If these are adjusted well, there are no problemos, amigo.
7:24 pm on April 10th, 2015
She did have one once that was over the head and crisscrossed on the back with a tummy strap. It was for the boxer and she could wiggle out backwards. Probably because she was a chesty lady (and a spooky butt).
8:51 pm on April 10th, 2015
PSQA and Admin, I have a belated thank you for you all. As I’m walking down memory lane in past blog postings, I came to the day Mollypop died. In my despair that day, I missed an important post. B said that you put Molly’s picture and a beautiful tribute up on the Chet the Dog Facebook page. This is the first I knew that. Thank you so much!
9:09 pm on April 10th, 2015
Spence, I am truly overwhelmed, three and a half years later.
I need a strengthening cocktail.
9:15 pm on April 10th, 2015
MP&LL’s mom, it is truly amazing how the members of the nation within grab our heart strings and stay there with us even though their time with us is far too short.
Lightning bugs out in our yard already…an early entrance. NIghty night.
9:26 pm on April 10th, 2015
Harness!…We here wear the lil’ LouLou harness too. Only ours are not pink…grunt!
9:30 pm on April 10th, 2015
And they may have elastic from grandma’s bloomers.
9:41 pm on April 10th, 2015
MPM, one of Kelly’s dogs, Gus, had bloat recently. They were very, very lucky because he survived. As you know, there is a high fatality rate. It was such a shock when it happened to Mollypop. So sad.
10:09 pm on April 10th, 2015
Bloomers!….That elasticized harness is long gone…sniff!
10:18 pm on April 10th, 2015
Rio – you gave up the bloomers for a diphthong, didn’t you?
10:44 pm on April 10th, 2015
Snort!…Lies!…gasp!…All lies and innuendo…gurgle!
11:05 pm on April 10th, 2015
Rio – we suggest the Witness Protection Program for you.

11:13 pm on April 10th, 2015
Chorkel!….I almost laughed out loud over that one. And I never laugh out loud…heh!heh!
11:14 pm on April 10th, 2015
Nose!…How does anyone breath through a nose like that?…grunt!
11:19 pm on April 10th, 2015
Practice. Lots and lots of practice.
Meanwhile, we are saying g’night.
G’night Rio. G’night, family
11:31 pm on April 10th, 2015
Stover!…I know you will read this question tomorrow…heh!…Are you still watching “Allegiance”? …snort!….I am very behind on the episodes, but catching up tonight. It really is a good show. I must say “The Americans” is far better, but it is interesting to watch the same theme in the here and now as opposed to the 1980’s….wheeze!
12:47 am on April 11th, 2015
WhoooHooo! HBO is free, Free, FREE all weekend!
Just watched Winter’s Tale. That’s the movie YSAS was talking about a couple of years ago. We remember him being very disappointed in the final cut. He was supposed to be in the fight scene on the bridge, but we did not see him.
Nana is determined to take full advantage of the Freebee Weekend and will be staying up to watch Real Time at 10 PM.
Me? I’m going to my Soft, Cozy Bed.
Right after a Late Night Snack, that is – Bear
