Waste Not, Want Not
“Here’s a good idea,” Bernie says. “Waste scooping companies. They’ve got names like Dr. Scoopy Poo, Dog Entremanure, Yucko’s, Grand Poobah, Call of Doodie, Mine Sweepers Pet Waste Removal. You get the picture.”
I didn’t actually. The subject, whatever it was, didn’t interest me at all.
“There’s even a trade group – the Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists. As for costs, this place on Long Island charges $12 to clean up after one dog once a week and $21 for two dogs twice a week. The total annual volume of – what would we call it? product? – is estimated at 10.9 million tons. So the opportunity’s out there, Chet. Kind of like facts on the ground.”
Bernie’s still talking about this, whatever it is? My eyelids are getting very heavy.
Thanks to Jim Sterba, WSJ.
Welcome Livvy.

Good morning, we are dashing in for a quick hi-bye. Barb is taking off for parts unknown by me.
Bernie’s waste control idea sounds alot more “solid” to us than the tin/copper futures. Waste not, want not. Could be a money maker, ole guy!
Have a good morning. BBL

Good Morning All! Do you think Bernie will be making a good investment for a change? Don’t know, but hoping for the best here. Dr.Scoopy Poo – we like it!

I’m with you Chet.
Good morning all.

Barb: I’ll be sending two recipes for the cookbook later this week via email. One is for a sour cream coffee cake which I made a few days ago. I tried taking pictures of it(which is why I made it) but they just don’t look good. I’ll send one to Melanie and see what she thinks.
Staff: We are supposed to send recipes to Barb and any pictures to Melanie. When Barb gets all the recipes and organizes the cookbook she’s sending everything to me to proofread and I’m then sending it to Liz who will make it artistic and ready to print. As far as I know Melanie is supposed to send the pictures to Liz.

Catching up with last night’s comments. Sad and Glad stories – we all prefer the latter – especially the ones about Rory and Tupper.
Rebecca: It was a relief to hear AJ is satisfied the team is in good hands for the summer. Still would like to see Whitey-Lance with a lap-top or ipaw for communication purposes. Hoping we will somehow hear from him periodically.

Gah!…. A post about
Crap!Poo!?…snort! …. That is disgusting. No wander Chet doesn’t want anything to do with it…wheeze! … Bernie’s thinking 10 million tons of opportunity. What kind of opportunity? Can you use this stuff as commercial fertilizer? ….gah! … My friend sends mine to the garbage, not the garden…sniff!Wireless!… Not! …grunt! … Seems our old computers wireless parts don’t work. She is going to call Qwest Tech support today and see if they can swap in her mother’s phone number onto her internet account….snort!….If not then her mom says she will call Comcast and order internet from them and Qwest can take a flying leap…heh! …Her mother also suggested someone go buy a new computer. I’ve been trying to tell the Cheap One this for over a year now…grunt!
10:56 am on May 3rd, 2011
Well, being the genteel ladies that we are, we will use the expression that signifies our feelings on this subject:
“This is where the fertilizer comes in contact with the air circulation device.”
Good morning all. Back to doing double shifts again today at the Crzy Lady place-she is off being a grandmother, but dog forbid we CALL her a grandmother. Sheesh. Humans are weird.

But if you go to Best Buy based on their printed circular, be sure to take the circular and price check at other places. Some BB’s have a reputation for pulling a bait and switch….just ask “Team OH NO YOU DON’T” – aka Melanie and Mama….

Basil and Sage: You’re completely correct. It is superfluous to use “only” and “exclusively” together. My guess is that since this is an advertisement (I’m not familiar with it), they are directing “exclusively” at audience snob-appeal. I think we generally associate that word with “high-class” more so than “only.”

Völfie: We call her the pink bulldozer and I’m the rose bulldozer!
Let’s see, 12 times 9 is $108 a week. I wonder if we could get a good deal though. It’s not like they would run out here.
I remember seeing an article on a dog park that used the dog poop to light a street lamp. That was cool.
Went and got a new printer. Did you know they don’t make just plain old printers any more? At least for the resolution I need for photos. So we now have a wireless printer that does 3 other things that I don’t need.
Riö: The store named for a fastener was having a sale on lap tops. At least here in the East.
Good afternoon everyone else!

I agree with Wolfie: I’d love to see Melanie and T&G’s mom in action.
Rio: Tell your friend that I really think she must break down and get a new computer. Life would be much brighter for you then.

Snowhook Bella: Please check your secret decoder device for a message.
3:32 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Melanie: Yes! I remember that article about the doggie poop lighting the street lamps. Now we’re talk’n! About the new printers. We hear you. Had a really great printer – very simple to use that we can no longer use (repairs would be equivilent of new printer) Our new one can print, scan & copy – all useful features – but we miss the old one. So simple to use! Haven’t a clue how to change the ink. The instruction booklet is in 3 languages and very difficult to read. We are praying the ink doesn’t run out soon. Seems it takes us longer than the average Bear to figure these new fangled things out. Grrrr!

Hi y’all, busy day here. I got up, checked all the rooms, went out, added my contribution to the yard, checked the perimeter. Looked at a squirrel, decided to let it be. 3:48 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Melanie, Do you mean Staples? Can we say that?
Doggie and kat poop is not supposed to be used as fertilizer for veggies. Also not supposed to put it in the compost pile. Think it is because of the meat in it, but it probably could be used on flowers. Does anyone know for sure?
3:52 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Fertilizer!…What about Grass?…snort!…Why don’t they just leave it on the grass and let it do its thing…heh!

4:03 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Does anyone refill their printer ink cartridges?
4:26 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Volfie – Mom does not refill her printer ink cartridges. She has a printer that uses many cartridges, one for each color.
The eaglets are growing quickly and they are getting their grown-up feathers. We laugh at how cumbersome their wings are to them right now.
4:37 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Molly!…You probably felt that way about your Poufy tail when you were just a pup….heh! … “Why, oh why was I born with this cumbersome poufy tail?”….snort!
4:49 pm on May 3rd, 2011
MollyPop: Our printer also uses cartriges for each color. But, what do you mean you don’t fill them?.
5:11 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Bear!…If one doesn’t re-fill their cartridges, what is the only other option? …grunt! ….Think about it, I know you can reason it out….snort!
5:23 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Bear – We buy new ones. The individual colors don’t cost vey much.
5:24 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Rio! Communication problem here? Replace would be the only option, which is what I meant.
5:28 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Twins!….They are in the toilet…heh! …Sorry, Alice. Your team stinks so far…snort!
Bear!…Replace and Refill seem like two different actions when it comes to printer cartridges….grunt!
5:38 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Rio – Mom found this picture from when I was younger. I was clearly having a bad tail day!

5:41 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Rio: Yes, that is true. By the way – I have figured out how to replace the cartriges.(yay!) I still say the old printer was the best in terms of simplicity. I am sorry it is no longer available.

Thank dog, we still have the old printer.

I can’t believe that people can’t get their fannies outdoors, say every other day, and pick up their own dog’s poop…even if they have two or three dogs It is not a chore that mom even minds. She and a friend pick up all the dog poop when we first get to the dog park in order to help keep it clean. Some dog owners are very irresponsible and don’t pick up after their own dogs at the park…human slobs we call them.
Melanie and Rebecca could use hired help, but I don’t think they have it.
Is Bernie getting ready to invest in dog crap cleanup? That sounds a lot less risky that some of his other ideas.
7:12 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Mollypop, That is one good looking girl in that photo.
hmmm I wonder if Quest is going to be told to take a flying leap. If so, I wish I could be there.

Siber-H: We agree – everyone should take care of business – their dog’s that is. Most dog parks & beaches that allow dogs require the owners pickup after their pets. At our dog beach in Coronado there was a “doggie bag dispenser” at the entrance to the beach as a subtle reminder to all visitors to keep the beach clean.

Mollypop thanks 🙂 should have remembered that…

BSD, Our dog parks do require th owners to pick up after their dogs
7:30 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Hey, y’all! Mom got all her work done last night and this morning, so now she has a new project — putting laminate on all the covers of the books she’s gotten for my girl’s classroom. She counted the other day — she’s up to 98 books so far! Her goal now is to get a couple more to make it an even 100!
Rebecca: For which college did your dad coach?
7:34 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Ignore the sentence above (hair trigger) and I will start over:
BSD, Our dog parks do require owners to pick up after their dogs and they have the doggie bag dispensers, but a certain number of people just don’t do it. I wonder if that happens in other dog parks or do we just have a large number of lazy people.

Dear Kirby T., when does your mom sleep?
7:41 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Bluecat: Just in case you still need it, the blog address is
http://frommyeasychair.blogspot.com/2011/05/icarus-unbound.html
I think that takes you to today’s post. How is the new computer?
Mollypop: You are beautiful. I especially like your tail.
Kirby: How did the interview go?
7:53 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Melanie: She usually falls asleep on the couch while Dad is watching TV. And then she wakes up to go to bed, but then she is wide awake, so sometimes she stays up to do stuff then. And before you say anything, she knows that’s not good for her — she doesn’t do it all the time, just every once in awhile!
Bee: My girl hasn’t had her interview yet. I think that’s a couple of weeks away yet. When she was home the other day Dad was worried about her car and all the driving she has to do — to her school for student teaching and now she has to drive to this interview (and hopefully more!) — so Mom and Dad bought a new set of tires for her car. One of her lugnuts was missing, so Dad made her text her boyfriend right then and there to see if he would MAKE her get a new one — otherwise she tends to take her car for granted. Today she texted Mom to say that she told her BF she would do it today or tomorrow — he said how about today? So now she has a new lugnut, and Dad has a new ally!

Hi, Bee. You’re bookmarked again. Beautiful-tailed Mollypop reminded me to click on your blue name. The computer is fast and has a easy-to-read monitor, but do you ever think the world of technology is passing you by? Mr. Bluecat went to B&N for an Office 2010 manual, 741 pages! I know where to find Chet and y’all and that’s enough for the moment.
8:40 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Hi everyone. I tried posting this earlier today, but it didn’t post, so I will try again. Last night grandpa and I “batched” it while mom and dad went to of those concerts they sometimes go to. This one was two really old guys named Crosby and Nash. Actually, I like their music a lot myself, even if their house has two kats in the yard. Mom and dad came home pretty mellow, so I think they had a good time. My dad said they even played a song just for SiberH. It was about Yucca Mountain and all the stuff to be buried there — the song was called ” Don’t Dig Here.” Dad also said for two old guys who clearly had partied hard their entire lives, their voices were still pretty amazing. Ah, sweet memories. Wookie
P.S. Today is grandpa’s birthday — he is 92. We had delmonico steaks for dinner too. Yummy.
8:54 pm on May 3rd, 2011
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOOKIE’S GRANDPA! (the steaks sound delicious)
I remember when Dan and Zoë lived in that area, we would go to a place named “Wolf Trap”. Is that still there?
We would take a dinner picnic and listen to music. Never did see any trapped wolves there. I have no idea why they called it that.
There’s Tanglewood near us now. We’ve been several times to that. Very beautiful.
Never have seen any wood tangles there. Pretty tame woods if I may say so myself.
Well, I’m off like BearSpiritDog, except I won’t see the dawning of the sun. Maybe the sun coming over the tops of the hills.
TTFN

Happy Birthday, Wookie’s Grandpa! Wow, that steak sounds good. What time should I be there for the party? Tonight is Dad’s sports banquet, but he never brings me any leftovers from those things. And Mom and my boy fast-fooded it and didn’t give me anything. Not a good night for me. NOT. ONE. BIT!!!
9:03 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Staff/B – that’s the process for the cookbook. Has anyone asked Snowhook how they feel about it? (Rio?) I mean, about how the book gets distributed once it’s done.
Mollypop – nice fluffy rear pom-pom.
I put doggypoo in the garden beds, on the theory that its a natural biodegradation process – plus I won’t be eating the camellias. Much better than putting in a plastic bag and sending that to landfill for decades.
9:10 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Re: dog parks. As long as there are people, there will be lazy/ don’t give a hoot people. The last time we went to a dog park, mom asked a guy if the Italian Greyhound was his. He said yeah, ain’t he something! Mom said that said dog had made a deposit that needed to be tended to and he told mom that if it was bothering her, she was welcome to pick it up. Then he asked mom if she was the poop police, to which she replied, “as a matter of fact, I am”. I guess the fierce stare she gave him worked, because he finally picked it up. Humans!

Boy – we just get here and everyone else is going to sleep. Sorry to miss Melanie – Mama has been so busy in Crazy Land land they they haven’t even had a chance to talk.
Happy Birthday Wookie’s Grandpa – you know, we have heard that is it good luck to give lots of tummies to golden dogs on your birthday…what the heck….can’t do any harm.
Barb and Maggie – we will take your word on the rhubarb thingie you make. We are sure that it is very good, and we know lots of people will love it…rhubarb is just one of those things for us that we can’t get past. Kinda like the brussel sprout thing from the dinner party.
Bee – THANK YOU for clarifying that furniture commercial thing. It was making us a little crazy.
Hi BlueCat – good to hear from you.
MollyPop – sorry, but we have to giggle at the tail thing. (Of course, we Corgis have perfect little tailless butts) We KNOW that “poufy” means fierce – you are indeed the scariest, fiercest poodle we have ever met…..tee hee….

No, not me, I wouldn’t dig anywhere near Yucca Mountain or WIPP.

Kirby, Barb just ordered a delightful book for Baye and Lily called Me and the Pumpkin Queen, by Marlane Kennedy. It is probably 4th-5th grade level. Main character is an 11 year old girl and she narrates the story. Barb’s coworker told her she read it when her daughter (age 9) brought it home from the library. She enjoyed it so much that she suggested Barb read it too. Lovely little book, and one you might want to consider for your girl’s collection.
9:49 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Yes, we should check on C Harris. Does someone have her contact info?
Also, we liked T & G’s idea of Mr. Dickens for the kitty name. Barb had a Springer years ago named Dickens. Not because of the author, but because she was a little dickens!
9:52 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Thanks, B&M! I’ll look into that one. Mom says the cover looks familiar — she’s pretty sure they have it at her library, but she hasn’t read it.
9:56 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Yeah – where IS MollieABP?
Anyone else among the missing? We have been in and out of the blog so much, we have kind of lost track.
(It’s ok with us if the Kats don’t show up – we have quite enough to deal with with just our own, never mind Alice, Abbie, BlueCat, Gus, BooBear, Fatty etc. or the new KittenKat)
Barb – still no other baby goaties?? Maybe you should start thinking of taking her on a ride on a bumpy road….
10:09 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Hey Wookie,
Our Mom is going to be 92 in two weeks. She and your grandpa are about the same age! 1917!
My mom remembers seeing her first automobile (in Alma Michigan)when she was about 6. She got to ride in the ‘rumble seat’. She and your grandpa have seen a lot in their 92 years haven’t they? The first phones, the first cars, the first airplanes. Television sets, man on the moon, atom bombs. Yup they have seen a lot.
A Catty, please tell us about the new kitty.
10:23 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Congratulations to the Twins pitcher who just threw a no hitter!!
10:37 pm on May 3rd, 2011
T & G, No baby goaties, however, she is showing some signs that it won’t be much longer. The lady who kept them for the winter thought she might be a couple of weeks later than Stormy. Probably twins. Any good ideas for names?
10:42 pm on May 3rd, 2011
names…hmmmm….
Egg Roll and Dumpling?
Chow Mein and Lo Mein?
Sweet and Sour?
oops – guess we are hungier than we thought and the Chinese food is on the way…
we’ll try harder later.
11:00 pm on May 3rd, 2011
Mr Husky!! Really? I don’t believe it….Yes!!!! It’s true. Maybe Alice will come back to our team now and stop playing with those darn Rockies.
YaaaHOOOOO!

What about Mr Singh, if one of them is a boy?
11:17 pm on May 3rd, 2011
To follow up with T & G , how about Won & Ton , or Ginger and Soy. Or maybe not, that might get Rio started thinking along the wrong line.
If we went with Mr Singh, what would we use for a girl’s name?
We are heading to bed. Night all.
11:22 pm on May 3rd, 2011
How about ASTRID???
But we do like Won and Ton…we like Ginger and Soy too.
And dinner was fabulous!

I like Astrid!!

Hello Plunderers!
I don’t know if anyone is still on the blog, but I skimmed it as soon as I got home. In an email from CHarris a couple of weeks ago, she said that her sister was able to be with her father, but beyond that I don’t know much more. I’ve been thinking of her and her family and hope they will have the comfort and healing that they need.
12:12 am on May 4th, 2011
Hi Rebecca – we were just checking in one last time tonight before turning in. We watched Letterman’s monologue and top ten list – ya, he’s not half as funny as he thinks he is most of the time.
Mama FINALLY has a whole day off tomorrow! Yippee!
Of course she will be working at her “other job” and sculpting clay. She wants to start working on the piece for the Snowhook auction.
Is AJ home yet? We’re very glad he is content with the place your doggies are summering. We know that not all of Alaska is a frozen iceberg all the time – we know someone who lives in Ketchikan and she talks about the warm weather coming from the ocean. But where abouts are your dogs for the summer? We admit to a woeful ignorance about the geography of Alaska except to know it is HUGE!
12:19 am on May 4th, 2011
T&G: The dogs will be on the glacier in Juneau which is near Ketchikan relatively speaking when you think of the vastness of the state. After several hours of driving, they took the ferry to Juneau.
AJ will be home soon—he hasn’t wanted me to write that I’m by myself (a bit over protective, that one)…
Clay—sounds fun!
12:20 am on May 4th, 2011
Rebecca – you probably don’t know about this part of the Plunderers, but a while ago, Siber disappeared for a number of days very suddenly, and we all realized that we had no idea how to reach out to him. It was a tense, scary time until Siber came back and explained that his person had been stricken with a really serious flu. It made us realize that we truly need to be a family and take care of each other and be aware of who was where and how to reach out. So someone suggested that we all set up “emergen-tree” contacts with at least one other person on the blog – we have traded email addresses back and forth, so if someone else goes missing, their contact person can try to reach them and see if it is just a computer problem or something more serious. We don’t know who CHarris’s contact person is, but we sure do hope they check in with her very soon.
12:23 am on May 4th, 2011
Alone??? With that bunch of vocal howlers at home with you??? We think you are as safe as houses. (we never did understand that expression, but all the older folks in our family said it)
12:29 am on May 4th, 2011
I don’t know who CHarris’ emergency person is and I don’t want to overstep bounds, but I’ll email her just to check in.
Should I need protecting my lot will likely require belly rubs first, perhaps Basil & Sage could be loaned out as guard cats 🙂
12:32 am on May 4th, 2011
Surely you jest! they sound all big and brave on the blog, but just let some repairman or visitor show up at the door.
ZOOOM! Into the laundry room and up into the ceiling rafters they go!
Sissy Kats!
12:37 am on May 4th, 2011
Perhaps I’ll stick with the eight belly rub requiring, an ear scratch if you please, just one more kiss lot I have hear tonight. It’s good to go with what you know.
I sent a check-in email to CHarris. If/when I recieve a response, I will post.
12:41 am on May 4th, 2011
Thanks Rebecca – we do hope you hear from her.
And now, since it is almost 1 a.m. here, we’re gonna call it a night.

Barb, how about Cupcake and Shortcake? We saw those names on the animal rescue site and thought it was cute. In fact Mom named a stray Siamese that she’s been feeding Shortcake.
Happy Birthday, Wookie’s Grandpa!! You have indeed seen alot of changes in our world. Those of us of a certain age have seen alot of changes too. It’s amazing how much the computer age is changing things. When Mom was teaching in the late 70’s, they still used mimeograph machines to make copies!
