Washington And Dogs

“Since it’s Presidents Day, maybe we should mention that George Washington, in addition to being father of his country, was something of a dog breeder,” Spence says.

“Mention away,” says Admin.

“Well, he’s pretty much credited with the development of the American foxhound. He bred the Virginia hounds with French hounds he got from the Marquis de Lafayette.”

“Washington was a busy guy,” Admin says. “Hard to imagine him whiling away his time on the golf course.”

“Not so sure about that. He probably would have been good.”

Welcome Tucker. And here he is:

This is Tucker who had to stay behind when his family visited California - they were received home with much joy

    Happy President’s Day to all.

Quiet day here this morning, but things are going to change. High winds and maybe some rain. Then big snow on Thursday.

Talked to a friend in Kentucky this weekend. She said it is almost time to plant lettuce down there. Must be nice!

NO! Oh, Oleys, I have woken up to this most distressing news. sniff! I know that Shiek knew how much he was loved by you all, and he will take that love with him to Rainbow Bridge. Just as his family will always be in his heart, Shiek will always be in yours to help you both remember the good times.

I am so sorry for your loss.

    10:37 am on February 18th, 2013

Dear Eileen and everyone at the farm – your loss cuts deep, and will hurt for all time. For that, we are truly sorry.
But to know that for many years that elegant, intelligent and regal soul was a part of your life and chose to give his love to you, we think you were specially blessed.
For all his beauty and joyful times in the saddle, for all the soft whickers, and nuzzles and wordless communication – you gave him love and the very best care. You gave him respect and you gave him the best kind of life a horse can have.
His time on this earth was done, but even now, his hooves are ringing as he gallops in the endless meadows over The Bridge. His head held high, his tail bannered in the wind, muscles dancing under his glowing coat. Even now, he is lifting his head with whinnying, telling all the souls he meets, “I was loved”.

Eleanor. She lived up to the great lady for whom she was named.
Ellie was dignified, yet had a true sense of comedy. She also had a strong sense of what was right, and insisted that others respect her opinions.
She was gentle and smiling, even as her body started to fail her. Her tail would thump on the hearth whenever her adoring public stopped by her to pay respects with a sniff and a lick, or a pat and a word. Grand dame of The Pack, her whispered wuffs will be missed.

And about Downtown Abby: First off, we never see our Abby on that show, and she has never ever been downtown. Secondly, as if the handbasket wasn’t transporting Today quickly enough to hell, that season ender added the turbo boost to the day’s “fun”.

Okay, this is what I think.

I think the Plunderers across the Bridge need their own name. A name that will honor them.

    Nope.

    Any ideas, anyone?

We here at the kennel have been thinking about something to lift spirits. Would anyone be interested in having a pre-race snow-ba-Q? There is heart ache, job loss, unhappiness with jobs, winter blues, etc going on and no one cures the blues like the Plunderers. If there is interest, we can host all youse here at the kennel. I’ll ask the Giant to build a bonfire—I’m not allowed to play with matches, plus I don’t have fancy thumbs. What say you?

    Thank you, Dear Friends,

Been a sad day here. The Pack is subdued, but when they heard about a Snow-Ba-Q, they have perked up and ready to go to Snowhook.

(They did want to know if there was anything on the menu besides snow.)

My day ended by having to take all of the garbage out og the massive green container, re-bagging it all and cleaning the mess out of the bottom. In the barn. In four degree weather. I’m going to take a shower before heading out to party!

  73. Staff

I admit to liking the idea of a Snow-B-Que. Many years ago. Almost 50 (Yikes) now a younger brother of ours died at the age of 4. My parents knew how sad we were so they took us to the movies and out to dinner. (We never went out to dinner). We went to see Mary Poppins and I remember Maggie saying that we needed a ‘spoonful of sugar’ because we were sad.

So I think we could really use a spoonful of Snow-B-Que.

Beloved Travelers? Nope. It’s too long. Somehow I think of them as coming home, at long last, to stay forever in Bliss.

    Pondering…..

We here like the idea of a party. We’ll bring sirlion steaks for all.

Belle Starr, I can’t wait to see the new sparkly stickers on the fire-put-outer. I’m counting on the Smoochers to make sure my hair doesn’t catch fire.

Belle Starr, I have always counted on you to make sure my hair doesn’t go up in flames…it’s just that Bride of Frankenstein gray streak I can’t seem to do anything about…

Wose: My Four-legged is very wise. She has shared a few bits of wisdom with me over the past few days. For instance, when Wookie’s dad wondered if Wookie’s grandma strayed farther afield than originally thought, my Four-Legged instructed me that a Lady doesn’t reveal her sources. Or, was that about the press? I forget. She also said if there is something about your appearance you don’t necessarily like, just own it rather than letting it own you. And lastly, she taught me to always have Blame it on Rio Hot Wings at any Plunderer event. She says it’s part of being a good hostess.

Been an exacting day for most everybody. Sharon’s eyes feel like sand, the herd has licked far too much salt off her face but the “facial” has done wonders for the skin. We always miss those who go ahead, but the best thing they do is leave us memories

Sewing! Here we go again. My two-legged started and finished a prototype for a dog jacket yesterday. Tenzing was her model. She is going to try an make another one tonight, and the next night, and the next night until she doesn’t have to make any more or runs out of time or materials.

Riö: We did see the piece telling about Highclere Castle. Is it any wonder they had so many servants. Imagine living on such a huge estate.

  117. Belle Starr

Rio: My two-legged says she hasn’t been using a pattern. She says she’s been eyeballing it which doesn’t make sense to me. From what I can tell, she’s using scissors to cut out the materials.

Masquers: I can’t imagine what trouble my two-legged would get into if I weren’t supervising. One can only imagine…

I just discovered that Mom and Dad’s bedroom gets waaaay better reception for the net than the living room does! So now I can curl up on my nice, cozy sofa in their bedroom and still keep up with the blog on Mom’s new tablet. I thought I was going to have to wait until my boy gets our wifi set up – I’d do it myself but I’ve still got that old opposible thumb problem – but it turns out I’m picking up the free wifi our town installed. At least I think that’s what I’m picking up…if not, one of our neighbors has a mighty unprotected computer!
