Uma Thurman, Tiger Woods, Tin Futures
“Albie actually picked this development up after it went under,” Foster said. “For a song, of course.”
Hey! Albie Rose was a singer? I’d never have guessed that. Lately Bernie and I have been listening a lot to Buddy and Julie Miller, especially What You Gonna Do Leroy. We knew a Leroy – Leroy LaRue, a real sharp-dressing perp, now wearing an orange jumpsuit. Plus there’s a lot of Hawkshaw Hawkins recently – Lonesome 77203. We’ve had other periods of lots of Hawkshaw Hawkins – they come and go.
“Like to take a little tour of the place?” Foster said.
“What for?” said Bernie.
“I thought you were interested in what was happening to the Valley,” Foster said. “That’s the word on you, anyway.”
“Yeah?” said Bernie. “What else have you heard?”

I see….the title has no connection to the content. I have an empty box again, but if it's any of the music mentioned, that's okay. Bernie and I don't have the same taste in music.
Perhaps Astrid is hiding out in the development…..mmmmm….. (And now I'm wondering where we get the expression "for a song." I love your literalness Chet!)
5:09 am on May 18th, 2010
Chet and Bernie: Be on high alert – there could be anything in that old building.
Alice: I am immune to your eyes, but they look as if they hurt sometimes. Think my eyes have looked like that on the morning after the night before – back in the day. By the way, those are some fantastic quilts.
5:20 am on May 18th, 2010
B., The song is about a man whose woman left him. Sort of a requirement in country music. In this case it fits with Chet saying "We’ve had other periods of lots of Hawkshaw Hawkins – they come and go." Referring to Leda leaving, of course.
5:33 am on May 18th, 2010
Thank you Sam. There's supposed to be some new situation with Leda in TFAT as I recall.
Dawson: Bernie, Chet and Foster are in a housing development that has had to stop developing for economic reasons. Albie apparently bought the development after it went under. As far as I know, there is no old building there.
6:13 am on May 18th, 2010
I think mom and I are the only ones here that have the same taste in music as Bernie. We love it when there is a video up. Hawkshaw Hawkins died in the same plane crash that Patsy Cline did.
I wouldn't want to take a tour of one of those empty housing developments. Chet described them perfectly yesterday. The only thing that is not depressing about them is that you know people won't be moving in them to use water that really isn't there for such a huge population I forget who said that, mom or Bernie.
Chet and Bernie need to get the hell out of Dodge.
6:22 am on May 18th, 2010
Rio? I hope your friend is feeling better today.
I didn't make it to the end of the game yesterday either..just more or less toppled over at the computer and went to sleep.
6:41 am on May 18th, 2010
That is a benefit of being so small like Princessy me. I fly in my carrier right at the seat with my girl.
6:48 am on May 18th, 2010
That's the only safe way to do it, Sam. hmmm I wouldn't fit.
6:52 am on May 18th, 2010
Siber-H, Mom and I are with you about the country songs. We love them. We sing right along with Chet and Bernie.
Here's for B. so she can understand all about this, taken from a David Alan Coe song:
(spoken:)
Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song,
and he told me it was the perfect country and western song.
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was not the
perfect country and western song because he hadn't said
anything at all about momma, or trains, or trucks,
or prison or gettin' drunk. Well, he sat down and
wrote another verse to this song and he sent it to me and
after reading it I realized that my friend had written the
perfect country and western song. And I felt obliged to include
it on this album. The last verse goes like this here:
Well, I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison,
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in the pick-up truck,
She got runned over by a damned old train.
7:17 am on May 18th, 2010
The song was really neat (great video too) but not at all sure about Uma Thurman and Tiger Woods and tin futures, or how they relate to Foster, Ray, Astrid or Colonel Bob. Nothing much worth saying about Tiger Woods anyway, although Uma Thurman is another matter altogether, especially having starred in the movie The Truth About Cats and Dogs, one of my favorites (although David Letterman got really weird with her name one year when he hosted the Oscars). I just hope Chet is really on alert if Bernie follows Foster into the development. I have a real bad feeling about this. Don't like it one little bit. Not one little bit at all. Don't do it Bernie. Just say no.

Thank you Mollypop. I don't think I will ever understand country and western music…..sorry.
7:30 am on May 18th, 2010
Country!… I like that last verse… heh!… Did someone mention Patsy Kline?…. hmmm… I wonder how that big ole gal is doing in the back of her pickup truck …mmmm… Is today the day I am going to get that photo of Bess?….cough!
Tour!… I wonder what Foster will show Bernie on the little tour … snort!
7:36 am on May 18th, 2010
Rio, how is your friend feeling? Were you cuddling her and maybe giving some Pug ear nips?
8:02 am on May 18th, 2010
Sam!… She is feeling better but she’s in a really bad mood again… grunt!… I think something at work is pissing her off royally…heh! … Anyway, that’s the impression I get from the email she just sent me… snort!… She says she knows I am using her computer and wants me off now!… snicker!… I wrote her back and said, “Make me!” … snicker!
8:02 am on May 18th, 2010
Lots of nice dogs in the pictures in that video. Hawkshaw Hawkins. I don't think my Staff has heard of him.
Course, he's not Bluegrass, he's country.
Whole 'nother thing.

Hey All you Four Pawed Furry Friends (and you humans also)
I'm with Dawson and Siber-H! There may be Bobcats! In September 2008, Bobcats (with kittens) took over a California foreclosed house. Turns out they were eating the koi out of the pond!
Sniff carefully, Chet!
8:14 am on May 18th, 2010
Crap!… I wish Chet would stop putting those music videos in his posts!… grunt!… It takes forever to Refresh his page….grumble!
8:31 am on May 18th, 2010
And!… Like Stover, I can’t even see any of the videos…. Drat!

We love that song by David Allen Coe, Molly. It is good to know we are not alone
Abbie, we also like bluegrass. They have a lot of bluegrass festivals here.
I'm going to use Rio's line "make me" the next time mom wants to leave the dog park and I'm not ready to go. Mom is still laughing over "make me", but I bet she won't think it is so funny if I try it. There is no figuring life out sometimes.
9:17 am on May 18th, 2010
What is the difference between country and bluegrass? (I'm probably going to be sorry I asked this.)
9:19 am on May 18th, 2010
SiberH!… It only works if you are miles apart from the one you say it to … heh!
9:55 am on May 18th, 2010
Instruments!…. I think some of the difference between Country and Blue Grass is the instruments used… snort!… both are descendants of Appalachian folk music…. Grunt!
10:06 am on May 18th, 2010
Stover, that is an intelligent question, but I am not sure how to answer it. Authentic country music is unmistakeable, but a lot of country that is being played on the radio now is actually "pop" music.
Bluegrass is a sub-genre of country music, but it is definately different. I think once you heard some bluegrass music the difference would become immediately apparent as long as someone told you it was bluegrass and not country. A lot of people like bluegrass that don't like country and vice-versa.
Abbie? Abbie's staff? Can you guys help with a better defination of what bluegrass music is?
10:10 am on May 18th, 2010
Rio is correct. Bluegrass is also sung differently than country.
The Appalachian folk music can be traced further back to Scotland and Ireland. The Scotch-Irish that immigrated here. They brought so much to our culture.
10:15 am on May 18th, 2010
Stover!… Bill Monroe, the creator of Bluegrass, characterized the genre like this: "Scotch bagpipes and ole-time fiddlin'. It's Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. It's blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound. It's plain music that tells a good story. It's played from my heart to your heart, and it will touch you. Bluegrass is music that matters."… wheeze!
10:23 am on May 18th, 2010
The term bluegrass, of course, comes from the bluegrass of Kentucky.
We're doing pretty good, Rio
11:29 am on May 18th, 2010
Wolfie brought this up last night..about two of John Travolta’s dogs being killed by one of the airlines. Very, very sad, but it also pisses me off to no end. Mom won’t fly a dog anywere, nowhere, never, ever. She says if it someplace that the dog can’t be driven, she is not going either.
10:30 am on May 18th, 2010
Why Uma Thurman?
Why Tiger Woods?
And still don't know why Tin Futures.
Hey Riö, YSAS is doing background for Boardwalk Empire this week. Yesterday he chased one of the main characters down a street. I was telling my doc this and he asked "Why?" And I said, "They don't tell BG actors why, they just gave this direction, chase him down the street, so he did!"
Too bad I don't get HBO!
10:43 am on May 18th, 2010
Wow!… We don’t have HBO either…. snort!… Who plays the main character on that show? … grunt!
Song!… I’ve got a song in my head today and it won’t go away….cough!… Its driving me crazy!…snort!
10:44 am on May 18th, 2010
My most favorite of bluegrass songs is Wildwood Flower.
B., you can google it and pick one of many excellent versions. You might even come to like this stuff.
10:54 am on May 18th, 2010
You guys are really good. Okay. I'm going to look into bluegrass. I understand the "lonesome" sound of Scottish bagpipes. This will be fun.
Melanie: I have HBO. When is the program–Boardwalk Empire?–on?
I think that Spence is having fun with us regarding the titles lately. And he enjoys making us nervous about the situation and keeping us hanging–devices of a good writer.
11:14 am on May 18th, 2010
If you google Boardwalk Empire, you'll find two trailers and info. Going to be big. Terence Winter: writer on The Sopranos
Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, William Hill
About the gangs during prohibition in Atlantic City.
In one of the trailers there is a funeral scene. YSAS is in that scene. You can't tell who he is. They did the big scene of all the people with only about 1/4 of the people you see there. They just did a take and then moved everyone and then took another shot and then another and then smashed them all together. Pretty cool.
It's supposed to come out in the fall of 2010.
11:23 am on May 18th, 2010
I love Patsy Kline! And I love Wildwood Flower! Especially as sung by the Carters!
Has anyone ever heard of the Child ballads? I love them!!!
John Travolta's dogs were killed on the tarmac. They were on leash, and an airport employee hit them with his truck. It is sad for anyone to lose one of us, sadder yet to lose two, and even sadder to lose a human son on top of all that.
Spence is definately yanking our chain, and loving it!! So Albie didn't lose a boatload of money? Then why did Foster bring Bernie and Chet there? Is that some scary music I hear? Maybe the theme song from Jaws? Run Bernie, Run Chet!
11:24 am on May 18th, 2010
Buscemi!… That guy is one of my favorite actors!… snort!
11:24 am on May 18th, 2010
And how about the Orange Blossom Special????
Whooo-eeee – Love that tune!!!
11:28 am on May 18th, 2010
Hmm…Foster is getting me suspicious now…definetely on my list of humans to look out for. Chet, be beside Bernie at all times in case Foster pulls something. I'm getting afraid for you and Bernie now, not knowing what to expect.
And Rio. I'm sorry. The big and sweaty people in my family usually roots for this guy named Yankee and a couple of Giants on the box that shows moving pictures. I don't know what goes through their heads when they yell at that box to "catch the damn ball!" Humans are so funny. Boxes can't catch anything.
11:35 am on May 18th, 2010
Foster knows too much about Bernie. I don't like it one single bit!!
Makes the fur on the back of my neck stick up.
I wonder if we need to prepare for some sort of rescue mission, just in case? Some of our pack can be FIERCE!!
12:05 pm on May 18th, 2010
Lexi!… The Yankees??… snort!…. And the Giants?… unbelievable…. Guess whose pitcher is on the cover of USA Today?… heh!
12:17 pm on May 18th, 2010
Is it our pitcher, Rio? The guy whose name I would have to go elsewhere on the internet to see how to spell it correctly. There was a good article about him in our morning newspaper.
12:19 pm on May 18th, 2010
Yup!… It seems Foster has been doing some checking up on our Bernie!… snort!…I hope Susie doesn’t go missing…. Sniff!… again.
12:48 pm on May 18th, 2010
Since Foster is letting Bernie know that he's "heard the word on him," where is the threat?
12:55 pm on May 18th, 2010
Threat!….I think the threat is the gun in Foster’s pocket….snort!…Bernie’s gun is probably back in the safe behind Niagara Falls…. Grunt!
1:08 pm on May 18th, 2010
But what would be the advantage for Foster in harming Bernie?
2:14 pm on May 18th, 2010
Mollypop, You mentioned David Alan Coe back up there a while ago. He sang a song that is totally politically incorrect but funny, never the less. I think it was called "If that ain't country, you can kiss my ass". Do you remember that one? Mom just got Bullet Point a few minutes ago. I feel some quiet time coming on!
2:49 pm on May 18th, 2010
Rio! You're so right! Foster can have a gun in his pocket, can be playing friends with Bernie, and he's going to kill Bernie in that warehouse place and leave him there! Oh my God! Chet! Bite Foster! Bite him! Bite him hard! Protect yourself and Bernie! Watch out!!!!
3:21 pm on May 18th, 2010
That's what has us on edge…we perceive a threat against the boys but we don't know what it is. I think that Foster wants cash from Bernie, but that wouldn't explain why he brought Bernie and Chet to this deserted development. Why indeed?
Perhaps Foster has two seperate agendas. 1.) To pick up a quick $5,000 in exchange for information regarding Astrid, and 2.) He could be following Albies instructions. Perhaps Albie is going to con Bernie into investing in the project?
If so, I hope that Bernie left his checkbook at home.
3:22 pm on May 18th, 2010
And did anyone notice that my bling is back?
Hah!
3:25 pm on May 18th, 2010
Cyber H – do you have a given name? Like Fred or Spot?
Just wondering……
3:29 pm on May 18th, 2010
I can identify with those sad country songs all too well. Just recently, my valentine dumped me for a dude at the doggie day care. Sigh.
"I'm so lonesome, I could cry, howwwwwwwlllllllll…….."
Sing it, Hank!!!
3:35 pm on May 18th, 2010
Gulp!… We’ve been hiding in the basement since forever!… snort!… Tornado warnings galore out around this way… gasp!…Big dark clouds and very close thunder!… growl!… Someone finally got some ironing done while we were down there in lock-down… heh!
Story!… Do you guys think any money has exchanged hands yet?… sniff!… Yes, lets all pray that Bernie left his checkbook at home today… heh!… He should have brought his gun though!… cough!
Well!… now that we are out of lock-down at least for a bit… sneeze!…we are watching the Rockies and the Cubbies….It calms our nerves! …bugger!… Another threat is coming our way at 30 miles an hour…yelp!…
3:36 pm on May 18th, 2010
Ha!… laughing here Wolfie… and I never laugh!… heh!
3:39 pm on May 18th, 2010
Heh!… Leave the check book and take the gun!… heh!
3:41 pm on May 18th, 2010
SiberH!… has a lovely given name…snort!… But I will leave it up to him to share it..(again)… grunt!
4:39 pm on May 18th, 2010
B.Stover: Please exchange the word 'empty' for 'old' on my post this morning and accept my apologies for not paying attention.
Mollypop: Love that last verse of the country western song. I also love old Jimmie Rodgers yodelling songs.
4:52 pm on May 18th, 2010
Rio, Please let us know that you are ok!
5:03 pm on May 18th, 2010
Rio? Are you still with us?? Your weather has been vicious this spring. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that you are really in Kansas. Take cover, pal.
Here's another thumbs up for Jimmy Rodgers, Dawson.
Wolfie, my real name is Fluffy…just kidding. My name is Caleb. I had that name when mom adopted me and she didn't change it. I like the name Siber-H even if I am a low-tech husky.
5:04 pm on May 18th, 2010
I have a feeling that Rio is watching baseball while we worry. I hope that is the case.
5:07 pm on May 18th, 2010
Wow!… The big scary storm is slowly moving away… sniff!… Earth, Wind and Fire, plus hail, rain, lightning and thunder all right here over our house… snuff!… We are all hungry – no one has been able to make supper yet…grunt! … Especially me, I am starving to death!… wheeze!…Spring time in the Rockies is not all that fun let me tell you!….whew! … Luckily, we have heard of no tornado damage… sigh! … Its still lighting up and rumbling outside… growl!
Upstairs!… We have come out of hiding because the tornado alerts have subsided…whew!… But that rolling thunder is still scaring someone…snort!… Not me!…growl!
5:18 pm on May 18th, 2010
Wow!… we turned on the game and baseball players are flying everywhere!… Holy Cow!… Olivo went sailing sliding head first into the bag knocking someone else out… golly!… His helmet came off and now he is being looked at… crap!… He is coming out of the game!…awww!
SiberH!…Did you see all this??…gulp!
5:24 pm on May 18th, 2010
No ,rats, I can't see anything–just hear it. I think it is incredibly stupid to blackout games for me when I am so far away. They'd make more money if they would stop that blackout nonsense.
5:28 pm on May 18th, 2010
Sam!… I have not been scooped up yet!… snort!… Still here to torment the hell out of you!…heh!…sloppy pug kisses!
5:29 pm on May 18th, 2010
SiberH!… That Sucks!… snort!
5:38 pm on May 18th, 2010
Rio – I'm glad you're okay! And I'm glad that you were able to be brave and strong for your friend.
Sam – Friendship = The kiss of death in a relationship! I'll just have to wait until Jack gets his heart stolen by a fluffy foo foo poodle. One with pink ribbons and a crystal collar. You know the type. (ie floozie)
Caleb?? Caleb? Humm. Nope, I think that Siber H fits you better! The name Fluffy is kinda cute though.
Dawson – I know what you meant about the vacant houses. It's all good.
Did we ever figure out whether or not Bernie has his checkbook with him? Geeze, this could end up being really bad.
5:40 pm on May 18th, 2010
HEY! Foster stole my bling again. Crap!!
5:41 pm on May 18th, 2010
Lexi!… I’m glad someone sees reason around here!… heh!…Of course Foster has a gun, I doubt he goes any where without it… snort!… Killing Bernie in the Warehouse with the Gun is certainly a possibility….grunt!… But someone up above knows which side his bread is buttered on so that will probably not happen… wheeze!… Not for quite some time anyway….wheeze!… There is still the threat of Foster taking the money without giving up any information at this point… cough!
5:44 pm on May 18th, 2010
Foster – that's not fair.
You stole my bling last time!
I think you should "borrow" Rio's bling for once!!
5:50 pm on May 18th, 2010
Hello, Spence? Hell-looo…Spencer????
I'd like to file a missing bling report up there.
It was last seen at 8:29 pm.
It was Foster. Foster stole it again and I am not amused!
Can you (please) make him give it back? Plus interest? Please?
Geeze.
Thanks.
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwww
5:50 pm on May 18th, 2010
Foster!… I wonder if he has the balls to tie Bernie up at gun point, gag him and leave him for dead after taking the 5 grand of course…snort!… Forgetting entirely about Chet and not really knowing about his ability to rescue Bernie from anything! …heh!.. Later, we will see the wrath of Bernie and Chet unleashed upon the likes of Foster and his pocketed gun… wooo! …Now that would be funny… grunt!
5:52 pm on May 18th, 2010
Rio – don't forget, Foster needs to pay for his most recent crime.
Chet, bite him!! Get him!!!
Sigh. Okay, I'm done ranting. I'm going to go sulk now.
6:14 pm on May 18th, 2010
Of course Bernie's gun is in the safe – rarely takes it out of there. But Bernie is not alone. He has Chet with him and Chet is faster than Foster. If Foster even looks as if he might pull out a gun he will feel the wrath of Chet with a follow-up by Bernie. Oh ye of little faith.
Rio: Glad you're out of the basement. Hope you sup soon.
WWWWW: The good thing about not having bling is that no one can take it from you. Maybe Chet can get it back for you. He's good at finding other missing things.
6:33 pm on May 18th, 2010
Hi guys,
I was at quilting all day and missed the Bluegrass/Country debate. Bluegrass does not have drums. Country does. Bluegrass usually has guitar, fiddle, banjo, bass and mandolin. Sometimes they have resophonic guitars (dobro's) too. All string instruments.
Here is a link to one of my favorite bluegrass bands,
Hot Rize
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8_Q_sFHTBw&fe…
and then, their alter ego's
The Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFuUoKudZUI&fe…
Like jazz musicians, bluegrass musicians do a lot of improvising. They can 'sit in' with any other bluegrass band and I have never seen them with music in front of them. Just a set list.
I prefer the more modern bluegrass but my hubby prefers the old timers.

Hi Dawson!
6:40 pm on May 18th, 2010
Well!.. ‘we’ are tired and someone is still recovering from some sort of snot related thing… ugh!… So off to bed we go… sob!.. Very sad the Rockies lost again to the Cubbies…sniff!
Good night all!… God bless you and keep you safe from bed bugs and all other crawly things tonight!…heh!

GULP!… The tornado is just 3 miles away from here! And oming our way… Goodbye Everybody!…

Wolf! Wolf! (She cried.)
Wolfie, you know I love you like a friend. It’s just that Jack at doggie day care has stolen my heart.
We’ll have another mission (hopefully Rio isn’t scooped up in a tornado) and share chew strips again.

Hmmm. I can't believe I'm writing the last post.
What to say, what to say. . .
I pray that our world becomes as welcoming as a dog's wagging tail, as loving as a dog's kiss and as safe as a house guarded by ten Newfs.
Good night all.
