Uggie at the Golden Globes

“Uggie, the dog from The Artist – which is supposed to be good – stole the show last night at the Golden Globes,” Spence says.

“If you say so,” says Admin. “I wasn’t watching. As for the movie, never heard of it.”

“It’s a silent movie,” Spence says. “Meaning that on the set, Uggie’s trainer could give vocal commands instead of hand signals.”

“To the actors?” says Admin. He hasn’t had his coffee yet. Humans have a big mood thing going with coffee.

    Great looking new FOC’s!

I could go see how it feels up in AK! Mount Washington in NH has a wind chill factor of -57!!! Too bad the road is closed up there. (cough, cough, Whew!)

Good Morning all on this beautiful snow and ice sparkling morning.

    Good Morning, Melanie, and all!
We will have to read Chet’s link later. We are watching Season 1 of Downton Abbey on Prime.
The chicken seems almost defrosted so we may be mading it today. But we are torn on roasting it dry as in this recipe
    http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/My-Favorite-Simple-Roast-Chicken-231348
Or rubbing oil or butter on as you all suggested.

We watched season 1 of Downton Abbey on prime and wonder when we’ll be able to pick up season 2. It probably won’t be available until the whole season runs whenever that is.

A very light dusting of snow here on the Island yesterday. Huge white flakes falling for about a minute, then promptly melting. This morning only frost. Some parts around Seattle reported several inches with more on the way (I-90 was closed temporarily due to several collisions) Forecasters are saying they are seeing large inconsistencies in their forecast models here and on the East Coast. This may be the best excuse for inaccuracies in their weather reports…as in…it’s not my fault.

Howlers: Mon Poulet Roti looks similar to mom’s roasting technique. However, the temp seems a little high. Plain salt and pepper works very well we think.

Barb at work, so not much time.

Oley, what kind of chicken breed did they raise? Is it the usual commercially raised Cornish Rock hybrid that grows to a huge size very quickly? If you really want to get into some gourmet stuff, Google Label Rouge chickens. There are sources in the US for this product which is a suburb tasting fowl. We have been buying from someone who raises a Lable Rouge breed locally, and the meat taste is much more intense than the regular commercial variety that passes for chicken in the US.

Hello Plunderers. Sunny and cold here in the middle of the mitten. Mom is feeling tip top. Kitchen is cleaned and something yummy thawing on the countertop that I think will wind up being leftover Thanksgiving turkey pot pie.

That Uggie! He was a star before The Artist. He was wonderful in Water for Elephants and bonded with this hot, hot, hottie, Robert Pattinson. Mom can’t get enough of “His Holy Hotness.”

    Greetings All!

I did not watch the Golden Globes, but I did see some pictures of Uggie, who does play a large part in “The Artist.” I can’t say enough about how terrific this film is! (Whispering) I think the Prof and I have seen it about 4 times already…a little obssessive, you think? 🙂

    Never watch the awards shows.

You guys that are watching all this stuff on the internet. Do you actually watch it on your computer monitor or on a tv screen?
Mom’s attention span for watching something on the computer has never been any longer than a music video or movie trailor.

  14. Rose
    11:24 am on January 16th, 2012

SiberH: Neither do I. They are way too long, and I dislike that actors, who are paid to act, use award shows as platforms for their political agendas.

Rose: I, too, have watched a beloved film several times. It seems like some you just never get tired of watching. The Artist is not one we have seen, but are looking forward to watching, on your recommendation. If you and the Prof have enjoyed it 4 times, it must be wonderful! (I didn’t know that our featured artist, Uggy, was the terrier in Water For Elephants)
B&M: We missed most of the Golden Globes last night. The tv kept cutting out and the supposedly live feed on NBC.com…wasn’t.
Siber: You asked yesterday if some of us view our shows online, or on the tv via streaming device. It depends on what show it is. Some current shows like Once Upon A Time, Grimm and The Firm we here can only get online. It works out okay though, since the commercials give you the opportunity to get away from the computer for a minute or so.
Melanie: Thanks for the Downton Abbey link to Season 2 on PBS. It’s good to know we won’t have to wait months to see it. That means I will have to catch up with Season 1 rather quickly.

OMD! Melanie, we were just watching a preview of tonight’s premiere of Alcatraz and I swear I saw a shot of YSAS. But, it couldn’t have been, right? Wasn’t his cop scene in Boardwalk Empire? That we are seeing him everywhere is a very good omen. Heh.

It is another frigid morning here at the Kennel, but it is a safe bet that Charris is even colder. AJ is getting ready to run the team, but only after he got the fire going again and made me hot cider. I’m a lucky girl.

SiberH: We only have a handful of channels, and at present, one television. We don’t watch much TV, but what we do watch is online. I arrived back to work from my time in the lower 48 to a new laptop and a 21″ monitor in my office—the monitor is huge. I told my boss I was going to have the guys over and watch the big game on my big screen. Oh, the eye strain…

Oley, We looked at the Woogsong Holow website. Looks very interesting. A few people in northern Il. are doing large scale pasture poultry raising. It looks like they are raising the regular Cornish Rock, but raising them in better pasture conditions, rather than crowed confinment. They also listed a “Heritage breed” but said it was not available in 2011. That would probably be closer to their laying breeds, which are heritage. You have the option of having the birds cut up, but for $2.00 extra per bird, I would probably pass on that.

    Hi everyone –
Bee and Melanie – hope you feel better soon.

Mama has 9 days to go!! Yippee!!!

She got home tonight and found a very nice surprise…Dad and Gramp have moved the laundry room around. They mounted a cabinet drop-down ironing board, moved the pantry shelves over and installed lighting. There is now room for Mama to have a work space to play with clay, instead of having to use the kitchen and constantly interrupt her work to clean up and cook. Now, she can work on clay, and cover it up and walk away for a while and come back and work more without having to set up.

Yup – we think Dad and Gramp are pretty happy that she is leaving CLL too.

Staff – you are making Mama laugh, and that is a GOOD thing!

We almost – remember, that is ALMOST – wish that Mama was keeping a connection at CLL just to see what is about to happen. And not just cuz Mama is leaving. She knows that there is no such thing as irreplacable employees. Some ladies are threatening to quit when she leaves- Mama tells them not to be silly – the other employees will treat them just fine. But we think CL is just about at the end of her competancy level, and the corporation just dumped a whole new system on her. Its crap, and its not going to work – but CL drinks corporate kool-aid for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so she will not say a word against the corp, but this time they are just wrong.

We are just glad Mama is getting out – she is SO much happier when she has clay under her nails.
