Truffle Hunters

Haven’t seen this movie but the subject matter might appeal to fans of the nation within, as Bernie calls Chet and his kind.

I have not seen this movie either, but I have seen various items about dogs that have been trained to sniff out truffles.

I smiled at the man blow drying his dog in the bath. I have been told by WATP that blow drying was Teddy’s favorite part of his bath ritual.

Grizz and I are having our taxes done today…Yeep!

    Create a good day!

Rose: Your memory is correct. Actually, both Teddy and Wookie really enjoyed getting blown dry after a bath, which we referred to affectionately as “spa day.” As regards getting a bath itself, Teddy tolerated it while not loving it, Wookie not so much. Indeed, in the one black mark on his otherwise stellar career, Agent 00Wookie was actually banned by the groomer we had taken him to early in his life for grooming, so after that, baths had to be given at home. Princess Zeta is also not a fan of baths. Teddy and Zeta were bathed once together, and it was not a pretty sight.

    Good morning everyone!
It amazes us that the dogs hunt but don’t eat the truffles.
Bathtime? Darah dives right in, Lucy Lou, not so much and
Tinker steers a wide berth around tubs.

I like the scene when they put baskets of grapes into a barrel
    to make wine…I presume.

    Good day to all.

WATP: Wookie banned by the groomer? I can’t imagine what must have gone on. Same for Teddy and Miss Zeta. Like Wookie and Teddy, when I get wonder-fluffed, I also enjoy getting my hair blown dry. It always looks so much nicer when my stylist does it than when I do. :^)

Walk!…huffle!…We just came in from a walk….wheeze!.. My friend yanked me off the chair before I could reply to WATP’s post. Here is the real story!.

Mission-Groom!.. When Wookie007 was an Agent in training he volunteered for a very special Mission which involved his “not-so-loved” groomer….sniff!…Even at his young age he knew something was not quite right at that place. He wanted to help get to the bottom of it…gruffle!…So at the appointed time he was taken to that place for his monthly bath and nail-torture session. WATP was none the wiser at the time. So our young Agent was given over to “The Groomer”…gulp!…His job was to cause a distraction so other agents, names will not be mentioned here, could get in and obtain evidence from the main office. Once the safe was cracked and the documents were in our paws Wookie007 was officially done with his part….wheeze!…But his zeal and abandonment continued even as we waited for him in the Beau-mobile. Someone, probably Beau, had to tippity-tap out a message to WATP for him to come pick up Agent Wookie, known then to WATP as The Wookster…heh!…The short message said Wookie was Banned, never to come back. This was to ensure there was no link between the missing documents and the havoc young Wookie caused that day…snort! heh!heh!…His first Mission was quite a Success!..chuffle!

Rio. I was always suspicious about what had happened at the Groomer. Thanks for shedding more light on this perilous mission. I had no idea, although it does explain the Morse Code message I got that day.

Directed by Michael Dweck. Did anyone else flash.. want a dwink of wahwah?

I don’t find it unusual that the dogs do this or that they don’t eat the truffles.

Dogs have sniffed out everything from illicit sausages at the airport to cancer. They’re now sniffing out Covid. They sniff out bedbugs, explosives and some sort of fungus or other that hurts grapes or wine.

And they do it for love. And treats. They don’t eat the sausages or drink the wine.

They do it because their bipeds want them to and they are happy to comply. For a pet, or a treat or to play with their favorite toy for a bit.

There is a sport for dogs that allows them to employ their most excellent noses. The AKC calles it nosework and the NACSW calls it scentwork. By any name it’s dogs sniffing out stuff for fun. Diana pawPrints was just getting started when Covid hit. She doesn’t find truffles or lost toddlers or cadavers. She just enjoys finding the hidden birch, anise and clove sent and getting a treat from me. While the NACSW are still in hiatus in my state the AKC is starting up again. If she gets two more clean runs she will attain her novice ribbon for exterior, container and buried after the next two trials. There are two in April and I’ll be signing her up and we’ll be practicing for the next month.

I suppose if there were any white truffles around here I’d eventually start her on sniffing out those to score a little extra cash. She’ll do anything for a piece of hot dog or cube of cheese. But mostly because it’s fun and she loves me and wants to please me.

    Aren’t dogs wonderful?
