Tony La Russa
“Love those baseball lifers like Tony La Russa,” says Admin.
“He’s something special,” Spence says. “Did you know about his animal rescue foundation?”
“I did not.”
“Here’s a link to how it all got started.”

Good morning, y’all! Last comment yesterday and first comment this morning. Y’all must think I live on my computer!!!
8:50 am on October 24th, 2011
Interesting article. Good morning Kirby and everyone.
8:55 am on October 24th, 2011
Good Morning to Kirby, B & All
9:07 am on October 24th, 2011
Does anyone else think it’s ironic that an animal rescue organization spurred by a kat is named ARF?!
9:24 am on October 24th, 2011
Good morning, all! Kirby, we Howlers think any organization spurred by Kat would have a name closer to H-O-W-L. Just sayin’
9:29 am on October 24th, 2011
Good morning, and good article. We like LaRussa. Glad he rescued Evie 20 years ago. Hope she had a good life.
9:49 am on October 24th, 2011
Totally agree, Kirby. Arf, arf!
Great article and acompaning video about La Russa & ARF. Thanks for the link Chet & Molly!
Hello to the O.Howlers and Barb&Magpie!
9:51 am on October 24th, 2011
I wonder if Sam is back from college yet? I bet she totally rocked the place with her college sweater! Do you think they gave her a diploma?
9:54 am on October 24th, 2011
Lifer!….Yea for Tony! He’s my Hero…snort!
10:06 am on October 24th, 2011
And mine, Rio
10:12 am on October 24th, 2011
Winner!…Now if his team could only win the World Series….wuffle!
10:20 am on October 24th, 2011
What a wonderful video and thanks to both Mollie and Spence for bringing it to our attention. I wonder if Rally Squirrel could wind up there some day (of course we know it is really Rockie and he will most likely head off with his hillbilly gang once the season is over; I think Commander Rio still has future plans for him as the marauding goats are still out there somewhere). Wookie
10:20 am on October 24th, 2011
Well, guys. Mom is off to do stuff before work, so she’s kicking me off the computer again. See y’all later!
11:07 am on October 24th, 2011
Dear Wookie,
You bet we are still out here. And just waiting for the next round of packages to be mailed.
Signed,
The Marauding Goats
p.s. We are Rangers fans
11:26 am on October 24th, 2011
Gah!…. I should have known The Marauding Goats are Rangers fans….snort!….That just takes the cake…sniff!
11:35 am on October 24th, 2011
Dear Rio
Yes, we will take your cake. And eat it too!
Signed,
The Marauding Goats
11:39 am on October 24th, 2011
Okay, I admit it – that was pretty funny, MG’s
11:43 am on October 24th, 2011
Cake!…I set them up for that one…sniff!
12:01 pm on October 24th, 2011
That was a pop-up, Rio.
12:53 pm on October 24th, 2011
Rio: The MG’s got you bad…or good. Anyways, they got you.
I’m back on the fence and leaning towards the Cardinals now because:
Texas won, tying the series;
Tony LaRussa started ARF because of a kat;
The MG’s are surely on the wrong side;
There is an embroidered picture of a cardinal on my bed right now.
All of these are signs to me that Texas may not be the right team.
12:57 pm on October 24th, 2011
Welcome Dawson!!!
1:41 pm on October 24th, 2011
Good Afternoon. Awesome Dude to start a foundation named ARF.
Hmm. . . Remind me never to go bowling with Jasper’s Mom!
1:58 pm on October 24th, 2011
Switch!…Hitter!… I do believe Dawson will be for whichever team actually wins the World Series…snort!…She’s changed her mind so much it doesn’t even matter where her loyalties lie…sniff!
2:41 pm on October 24th, 2011
Actually, Dawson is not switching to the team who seems to have momentum. She can’t be accused of bandwagon-jumping, just open to new possibilities.
2:46 pm on October 24th, 2011
Band-wagging!…Is that what you call it? Band-wagging?…heh!… Since the teams are tied and that teenage pitcher Holland is back in his hole, the momentum could go either way tonight….snort!….Oh, I can’t wait to see who scores the first run…sniff!
2:46 pm on October 24th, 2011
Our four goats are safely behind the fence, so they are not part of the MGs. Anyway they are definitely Cardinal fans!
3:17 pm on October 24th, 2011
Wonder how the weekend visit to her girl’s college went for Sammy and MollyPop’s mom. I’m sure she wowed everyone in the dorm with that new sweater. Can’t wait to hear about the trip.
Okay, Nana finally told me what U-Pee means. Sounds like heads will roll when Jasper’s mom shows up. I wouldn’t want to be one of those guys!
3:20 pm on October 24th, 2011
We have one thing to say
AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!
(sent from CLLand)
Do we know if the MGs are available for contract removals?
3:21 pm on October 24th, 2011
Where the heck did today go?
3:23 pm on October 24th, 2011
Golinka!….heh!…This sounds serious! I hope Stinky Mama tells us what happened today with the Crazy One….snort!
4:15 pm on October 24th, 2011
Rio:
It is called “sitting on a fence”.
I can understand how the concept would be hard for you to grasp.
Never has a pug
sat upon a fence.
It’s an impossibility
and it makes no sense.
Why would a pug
do such a thing?
It’s an improbability,
They’d just as soon take wing.
When pugs fly,
Then they may well perch
with incredibility
upon a slat of birch.
4:21 pm on October 24th, 2011
Fly!….When us Pugs Fly that’s when the Texas Rangers are going to win the World Series….Wooooooo!…snort!snort!….Get off the fence Dawson and stake a claim…grunt!….Just like Admin did. Bless his heart. …heh!
4:54 pm on October 24th, 2011
Great poem Dawson.
On the fence, or not, if
You are leaning St.Louie way.
That’s good enough for us.
5:13 pm on October 24th, 2011
Wow, great poem Dawson.
Went for my checkup today and my Cholesterol is great and my blood pressure is great and my blood sugar is good and my kidneys, all three of them are normal!!!so I am a happy camper.
Got my flu shot and also had a mammogram. Another doctors appt tomorrow and then a massage and I should be good to go for another 3 months.
Heh.
Thanks for being there for me during the last year all you Plunderers. You were a great help during that exciting time in my life, and having the quilt to work on was a big help too. Hugs to you all.
Baseball tonight and here at the farm I can have my computer at a little vintage sewing machine desk right behind the sofa and watch and blog at the same time! Maybe I will even have popcorn!
I feel great!
5:26 pm on October 24th, 2011
Greetings All:
Hey, Dawson…You are a poet, and I didn’t know it! 🙂
Is baseball still being played?
Tony LaRussa is a good guy in my book!
5:26 pm on October 24th, 2011
AbbieTheKat!…Thats great news about your health….snort!…I wonder how Staff is doing these days…sniff!
5:29 pm on October 24th, 2011
La Russa!…. He deserves another World Series win in my book…heh!….My tail is tingling and thinks he is going to get it this year….Wooooooo!
5:59 pm on October 24th, 2011
Rebecca: Luna, Belle, and I are safely ensconced here in the apartment. “Don’t leave the key outside the door,” Belle reminded me. “Lock the doors and windows,” said Luna.
Chicken pot pie on the menu today.
6:03 pm on October 24th, 2011
Abbie: Glad to hear that you are in the best of health!
Masquers: The Prof touched down in Utah alittle before 5, NY time. He said the scenery and mountains are beautiful.
Speaking of mountains, the weather forecast said there might be a possibility of a little “white stuff” in the Katskills tonight.
6:06 pm on October 24th, 2011
I am going to take a wild guess here, and say that above post was from Mrs. Staff. Glad things are going well.
Barb has to have all those 1 year checkups too. Hope things will go as well for her.
6:17 pm on October 24th, 2011
Rose:
Another big game tonight to break the 2-2 tie. The next 2 games will be played at Arlington, so the Cardinals had better get busy if they want to play back in St.Louis.
Did you get my last minute message last night telling you to pack his umbrella? Only 20% chance of rain, but better safe than sorry. Hoping the Prof will have a good trip.
Chicken pot pie sounds yummy. The girls will love it.
6:20 pm on October 24th, 2011
Staff: That is great news.
6:32 pm on October 24th, 2011
Masquers: Yep, got it. The Prof always keeps an umbrella in the car, so I’m sure he put it in his carry-on.
The girls and I are licking our lips. The pot pie was delish! To me, the secret of a good pot pie is the crust. It must be golden-brown and flaky, and so it was!
Just kidding about baseball being played. The season was over for me when the Yankees lost…….
7:12 pm on October 24th, 2011
Barb talked to her sister today who still lives in STL, where Barb grew up. Her son,(Barb’s nephew) got a call last night from a business associate. He had a super good seat for the game tonight in Texas, and had a last minute conflict. So he offered the seat to Soctt for nothing! Scott got a last minute flight down there today and will be attending the game tonight. He is soooo excited! Hope he brings the team good luck.
7:21 pm on October 24th, 2011
Have a feeling from reading T & G’s mums post, that the CL didn’t chage her mind on all the date changes that she was considering last week.
7:33 pm on October 24th, 2011
Good News, Staff!!!(Do you really have 3 kidneys now? We assumed that they would remove the ones that weren’t working to make room for the new one.)
Ahem, GO RANGERS !!!!!!!!!!
7:34 pm on October 24th, 2011
Abbie: That is a great health report for Staff. Nothing better than feeling tip top!
Tupper&Gilly: Tell your mum to post as soon as she gets home from CL Land. Wonder what CL is up to now.
Barb&Magpie: Scott is a lucky dog that’s for sure. He must be sooo excited! Nana’s sister and family have lived in St.Louis now for the past 10 years or so. They moved there from University Place, WA (near Tacoma)
7:35 pm on October 24th, 2011
Oh! Also, Melanie worked her magic on our pictures for the MMCS items. Now Mom has to spiff up the description, decide on a price and forward to Rebecca! Can’t wait to see what all is going to be for sale.
And, GO RANGERS!!!!!!!
7:35 pm on October 24th, 2011
Ohhhhhh, Staff had the good news. I was wondering how on earth a Kat gets a mammogram.
I really have no idea what I’ve done today. I worked all day. Hmmmmm. . .
7:51 pm on October 24th, 2011
Bear, Where do they live in St. Louis? Barb grew up in Affton, which is a south suburb. Her niece lives in Affton, and her sister has lived in Webster Groves and Manchester. Now moved farther west to St. Peters, which is a suburb that didn’t even exist when Barb lived there. She still loves St. Louis- used to go there about 3 times a year till her mom passed away.
Melanie, we have days like that too!
7:55 pm on October 24th, 2011
Melanie: A kat mammogram. Ouch ouch ouch ouch, ouch ouch ouch and ouch! Yeeeow!
8:08 pm on October 24th, 2011
Oops. Just felt so good I posted without checking and AbbietheKitty had left her info on the computer. You can’t trust these Kats!
I knew you would see it immediately Rio!
Thanks everyone!
We had homemade tomato soup for supper tonight. Yum.

8:28 pm on October 24th, 2011
For all you puzzle fans out there, there is an AP called Astra Jigsaw. There are various collections that you can purchase (100 jigsaws for $3.99) and you can also determine the difficulty. Mom is hooked, and best of all, there are no pieces to lose. We especially like the Art puzzles.
8:31 pm on October 24th, 2011
Bases!….Two Cards on base and one out!…heh!….The Cardinals are looking a lot more aggressive tonight….YeeeHawww!…
8:32 pm on October 24th, 2011
Jasper’s mom here. Congrats Staff. I’d much rather have 2 boobs mammo’d than all the boobies that a kat has.
Spent the day driving from Lansing to Marquette. Check out the pics on my Facebookie. Nice pic of the Mighty Mac, and Big Mac, nicknames for the Mackinaw Bridge. Drove along the north side of Lake Michigan for awhile, then headed north some more, and drove along the south side of Lake Superior. Can you tell by the pics that Superior is much bluer that Lake Michigan? I think it’s because Superior is always so much colder than the other lakes, it’s also the deepest Great Lake as well. Any maybe that’s all just a load of hooey, but I do think temp has an effect on color. Anyone have some input about that?
Still saw some decent color on the trees. Hit a weird patch after Grayling…about 20 miles where there were no leaves on the trees at all, then back to “normal” where the leaves are past color peak, but still on the trees. Wonder if some kind of freaky wind blew thru and caused all the leaves to fall off. Plenty of leaves still on the trees here in the You Pee, but the only color left is some yellow, rust and the dark brown of oak tree leaves. There are many, many, many different types of pines in the UP, but one type of pine tree is completely yellow instead of green. Very strange, never saw that before.
Anywhoo, I’m settled in here in my nice hotel, had some Domino’s and sippin’ a Diet Coke. I’m getting caught up on internet land, gonna play some Words With Friends, and settle in with a J.D. Robb book.
Work! Yes, I did enjoy the drive, but I am here to work, and tomorrow I will indeed WORK. I have 3 meetings tomorrow with employees. I will have to discharge someone from employment tomorrow, ’cause that’s what happens when you stick your hand in the till. EE is bringing a lawyer to the mtg. Hope she brings a cashier’s check to replace the $$ that she stole. (HEH!) Police detectives have already turned over the case to the prosecuting attorney. Hope to have some news about that tomorrow. My part only involves work rule and policy violations as it relates to the employer. My job is to represent the employer’s interests, since I work in HR. The criminal aspect is something that I’m not involved in, except to provide information and witness testimony.
The other meetings tomorrow have to do with shenanegans. It all starts with a mercedes convertable that is titled in another state, but the owner’s SIL wants to drive it in MI during the short summer in the UP. SIL is employed by the State of MI. Stupid SIL (SS) puts a 30-day temp plate on the merc conv. The owner of the merc conv also owns a mercedes station wagon. SS renews the plate on the Merc SW, then transfers that plate to the merc conv, then purchases a new plate for the SW. The problem with this whole thing (here’s the shenanegan part) is that the cost to plate the SW is half the cost to plate the conv. AND…it is against the rules for SS to use her knowledge about plating vehicles to avoid paying fees. Clear as mud? Yeah.
So that’s what I’m dealing with tomorrow. Plus, don’t forget one employee will have an attorney, and one will have a union rep. So put that in the pot and stir it up too.
This is only part I of the shenegans…(But wait, there’s more!)but that’s a story for another day…
One day at a time.
8:33 pm on October 24th, 2011
What is the matter with Texas?
I don’t want St.Louis to win on the road so…
Go Taxas!

8:58 pm on October 24th, 2011
BStover…giggle…
9:01 pm on October 24th, 2011
Acronyms!,….I’m guessing that Wolfie meant Application,…grunt!…When someone starts using acronyms without telling me what they are, I quit reading…sniff!…Its too annoying to continue and not know what the hell someone is talking about…grunt!
9:07 pm on October 24th, 2011
Jasper’s mom. Are you familiar with a great mystery series written by Steve Hamilton that is set in the U.P. The main character is a former Detroit cop named Alex McKnight and the first book in the series is called A Cold Day in Paradise. The books really give a great feel for the U.P., and are very good mysteries too. Some colorful characters throughout. Highly recommended. Wookie
9:12 pm on October 24th, 2011
Staff: I envy your setup – tv and computer in the same room.
9:21 pm on October 24th, 2011
I am here. Go Rangers.
9:37 pm on October 24th, 2011
Pujols!… Is up to bat!…snort!….And they are going to walk him…grump! ….Scardie Kats!…sniff!
9:39 pm on October 24th, 2011
Loaded!….Bases are loaded and Holliday really needs to hit a homerun right now….snort!….Woooooooo!
9:41 pm on October 24th, 2011
My my, I finally get back home and the baseball game is on. Who knew? Who cares? No Yankees are playing.
Aunt Mollysmom is on her way back to Ellicottville after a dentist appointment. I need some sleep so will catch up tomorrow.
9:43 pm on October 24th, 2011
Wookie: I made note of the Steve Hamilton mystery series to add to the list.
Still 2-1 Good game!
9:45 pm on October 24th, 2011
Brothers!….I’m telling you guys, Napoli and Berkman could be brothers….snort!…Maybe they were separated at birth?….wuffle!
Sammie!….Hi you grumpy little white fluffy thing…heh!
9:46 pm on October 24th, 2011
Hey, Wookie, thanks for the recommendation on the books. Will have to try those.
Jasper’s Mom: Jeez Louise! What total idiots. Good luck tomorrow. Your pictures were beautiful!
Dawson: “Ouch . . .” snickering
BStover: What I know about apps. Your computer can’t work ’em but your other smart stuff can.
Speaking of the opposite of smart. Our cell phone went missing. I looked everywhere for it before I told Zoë. I looked in my purse, my jacket pockets, the Subaru and the Honda. Everywhere we usually keep the phone.
Told Zoë. I called the number and we went around the house listening. Nothing.
Zoë checked her purse, her pockets, everywhere we usually keep the phone and the cars. Nothing.
I decided to blame my sister. Only because she was the only one to visit yesterday. I usually blame my guys even if they haven’t been to the house for months.
I go out to the Honda to pick up Jesse. The cell phone is on the front passenger seat. In PLAIN SIGHT.
Rolling eyes here.

Hi Gang!
We’re here in time to see the Rangers kick some Cardinal butts!
As to the CL – well, lets just say that if she had been on the Titanic – she would have been arranging the deck chairs as the boat slid under the waves.
And yet – she would undoubtably been picked up by one of the lifeboats – somehow the silly cow always comes thru. Usually on the backs of those who throw themselves out of the lifeboats to save her.
sigh…
Still waiting for that winning lottery ticket.
Staff – thrilled to hear the good medical reports.
Dawson – the Kat mammogram made me laugh out loud.
Macy – GO RANGERS!
9:56 pm on October 24th, 2011
Melanie: Spooky cell phone story! Can you say Alternate Reality?
9:59 pm on October 24th, 2011
on the other hand…was there drool on it?
10:01 pm on October 24th, 2011
Yup, AP stands for application. Not sure if it should be capped or not. I should have mentioned that it is for the ipaw folks.
I am rooting for the cardinals because they are prettier than rangers.
10:08 pm on October 24th, 2011
7 left on by the Cards – where’s that HR when we need it?
10:13 pm on October 24th, 2011
Nooooo!….Game is tied!…snort!…Now I will have to resort to the couch cover technique….wheeze!gasp!
10:14 pm on October 24th, 2011
Maskers!…There was a homerun but not the one we wanted…huffle!
10:16 pm on October 24th, 2011
Up the middle, baby!!!
10:21 pm on October 24th, 2011
Wolfie, go to bed, I think you are running a fever. Rangers are cutie patooties.
Na-po-li, Na-po-li!!!!
10:22 pm on October 24th, 2011
Jasper’s mom: Still trying to read the rest of your post between innings…..
10:28 pm on October 24th, 2011
Mama says she would rather see Rangers than birds in a locker room. We think so too – our Daddy used to be a Park Ranger, and he’s pretty cute.
10:33 pm on October 24th, 2011
Woooooo!… Up the middle indeed!…snort!….Now Pujols and Holliday are on 2nd and 3rd base…gasp!….There are 2 outs. Lance Berkman is at the plate…sniff! …Awww. They are going to walk Berkman and load the bases…wheeze!
10:37 pm on October 24th, 2011
and you know what happens every time the bases are loaded…sigh
10:37 pm on October 24th, 2011
Freeze!….Froze and hit a fly ball. …grunt!….What a doofus….dammit!
Seventh! …..God Bless America! Land that I love! Stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from above. From the mountains to the prairie to the ocean white with FOOOAMMM!. God bless America. My home sweet home!!! God bless America my home sweet homeeeeee…..!!!!
10:39 pm on October 24th, 2011

I believe it’s 10…..
10:47 pm on October 24th, 2011

10:47 pm on October 24th, 2011
See, thats the difference between birds and heroic Rangers. Rangers leave no man behind.
tee hee
10:49 pm on October 24th, 2011
uh oh Rio – your friend didn’t catch the flu from that bride and groom via the phone did she?
10:49 pm on October 24th, 2011
Jasper’s mom: Which is worse? An attorney or a Union rep? With the facts as you’ve stated I don’t see how either can help the employees.
10:56 pm on October 24th, 2011
T&G: Is your mum happy with the way her MMS item turned out last night? (I am sure it’s fantastic…I’m really looking for a clue as to what it is.)
11:13 pm on October 24th, 2011
Na-po-li, Na-po-li!!!!
11:13 pm on October 24th, 2011
Dawson – she is still biting her nails about her project. When it is fired, it takes 12 hours to fire, and 12 hours at least to cool down, and then it gets delivered back to her from the kiln. So she won’t know until Wednesday at the earliest.
A hint? Ok – a number of Plunderers asked about a certain type of donation. Mama took that idea and ran with it. Kind of. At least keep that phrase in mind..”ran with it”.
11:14 pm on October 24th, 2011
I wonder if Rio has anything to chew on…sob, sob
11:14 pm on October 24th, 2011
Macy – whats the score?
11:18 pm on October 24th, 2011
The score is 4-2 for Texas. There is happy dancing going on.

Da da da da DAH da, da da dada daaaaaaaa!
11:25 pm on October 24th, 2011
What the…? A pitcher being used just for one intentional walk? Is this the World Series? A lousy game by both teams, really. So many bobbled balls, bad throws, mental errors.
And where is Siber H? Is he missing all the “fun”?
11:34 pm on October 24th, 2011
Saw that one – carpola!
11:35 pm on October 24th, 2011
We mean that in a good way. Like holy carpola, whadda play!
11:36 pm on October 24th, 2011
Ooooh…Now that was a great play. Strike out Pujols and make the throw to 2nd for a double play. You gotta like that Pujols, though. He’s a class act all the way.
11:37 pm on October 24th, 2011
Come on Macy – sing it loud – NA PO LI!!!

Thanks for watching, y’all. Must rest, must rest.
11:44 pm on October 24th, 2011
That’s the game. Now the Rangers only have to win one more.
(It could all end on Wednesday B.)
Oooo I still want little Nicky Punto to get a World Series ring but the Cards have got to buckle down to do it.
