    Hi, B!

Greetings All! Lovely day here in Tarrytown, NY. Hope yours is too!

Howlers: Any word on baby Jaxon?

  4. Barb & Maggie
    9:32 am on June 5th, 2013

We hope Jaxon had a good night.

    Good morning all.

Bee, Stephen King was interviewed on Today show Monday, and he used read as a NOUN! What is this world coming to!

Also Bee, I think those white fuzzy things you see flying thru the air are cottonwood seeds not milkweed. Milkweed pods open up in late July and August. At least around here, and I think you would have similar growing conditions.

    Good morning!
Last update on Jaxon was 3 hours ago: he made it thru the afternoon and night on his own. Looking stronger than last time. All paws crossed.

Mom is twirling. Do you see what she sees?

    Howlers, Good news on Jaxon!

We too have a small tomato. Ours is a Lemon Pear, a small heirloom variety.

Waaaaaa! Martha’s Vineyard is even further away.
We want a book signing that we can get to!

Good news about Jaxon. Keep it up, little one.

Grocery shopping today – the big one where you are out if staples and every ingredient needed for recipes. Hate this trip; it puts our finances in a mess.

Barb: Thank you. I’ll have to look up cotton wood. There seem to be hundreds floating around.

It doesn’t surprise me that Stephen King used read “incorrectly.”

Barb, Mom says that little bitty tomato is a Brandywine.

Howlers, You may be able to pick a ripe tomato by July 1st. That is really early around here.

Barb says she has to stop putting it off and get outside. BBL

At 8 this morning the rain was going sideways but now it is just a mist. The temp is supposedly 52 but the feels like index is about 32. We are not going into the garden today except to fill bird feeders.

I called up the bookstore (above) and I will finally get a signed copy of Robbie Forester, The Outlaws of Sherwood Street, Giving to the Poor. Yay! At least I will if Karen at the bookstore is any good. The phone number is 508.693.2291 if anyone else is interested.

And Peter, Just a suggestion. I could NOT remember the title. Short titles are better for those of us who are memory impaired.

Siber girls look just as lovely with battlescars.
In fact, they should have a few to be a true Siber girl.

I am laughing at Stover’s swipe at Stephen King. Stover has me so well trained now I don’t use read as a noun even when I am away from the blog.

    Good Morning All

Gooood morning, everyone! Gooood news about Jaxon, pawsitive energy continues.
T&G’s mom: Understand your pain (shopping). Went out early this a.m. to do that…pantry, freezers and fridges now full. Energy on empty šŸ™ Pocketbook is destitute.
Poor Meashka’s nose. Muggy and o’cast here. Thunderstorms maybe this p.m.

I checked cotton-wood and that’s what these fuzzy flying seeds are. Now I have to find the trees. Thanks Barb.

    Siber-H: I’m proud of you.

I hope that Meashka is okay.

I thought that the Robbie titles always included her name and “The Outlaws of Sherwood Street.” I guess I consider “Giving to the Poor” as the new title. I’m still reading it…slowly.

    cottonwoods …can’t spell

  24. B. Stover
    12:58 pm on June 5th, 2013

According to Wikipedia (and they use a hyphen between cotton and wood), the Latin name is Hibiscus tiliaceus.

  25. B. Stover
    12:59 pm on June 5th, 2013

Forgot: The cotton-wood roots like to be near water so apparently the seeds are trying to “find” water to germinate.

    1:21 pm on June 5th, 2013

Hence cotton-wood trees by creek banks! Quick growers but not long livers.

  29. B. Stover
    1:31 pm on June 5th, 2013

Random House and American Heritage dictionaries have “cottonwood” as one word. The OED has it as one word and also hyphenated.

  30. Barb & Maggie
    1:40 pm on June 5th, 2013

Staff, I saw dozens of Black Krims yesterday. I am sorry to admit this, because of Macy’s mom, but they were at the big orange box, H.D. As a last resort you might try them. It is a popular (and delicious) variety, and I actually bought mine from a local guy who is certified organic.

Stover, An allergic reaction to the cottonwood fluff is a very real allergy. Cottonwoods here grow wild along the Rio Grande. They get very big and very old and make the river pretty. But people have also planted cottonwood trees all over the city in their yards. About 20 years ago the city outlawed planting them because so many people are allergic to them. The law said nothing about the cottonwood trees that were already planted so the allergies continue.

Siber, she made me eat it without my Tase of the Wild can stuff on top, and it wasn’t half-bad. I’m not telling her that though.

Where are Bear and Masquers? Were they supposed to be gone this long? I’m getting worried.

  35. B. Stover

Home at last from grocery hunting. One simply must have the right equipment including comfortable shoes, the grocery sale flyer, coupons and a Starbucks coffee in the cart’s cup holder.

After beating and slashing a path through the wilds of the produce department, sneaking along crouched low and downwind along the meat counter, and tramping through endless corridors of Venus flytrap packaged goods (they look so pretty, and are so terribly dangerous), we got to the register. The cashier was very pleasant – she could see just from the way the cart was piled that her job security was just fine. The bagger was just a little OCD – he had to pack each one of our cloth recyclable bag JUST SO, so it was square – no matter if that meant putting the frozen boxed stuff in with the corn flakes and bottles of mustard.
The total finally came up – GASP! Just as Mama slid her debit card through the slider, an infant somewhere in the store let out a shriek. Everyone jumped – except Mama – she told the cashier that it was just the sound of her bank account, saying “You spent HOW much on groceries?!?!”

See Princess Sam – you are not the only one who is so sorely abused. After all that, we betcha we’re still gonna get plain old, nasty, dried kibble for dinner. sigh….

I went to the nursery today. Lots of plants and not as many seeds as I thought. We will be having quite a beautiful area.

Yeep! I spoke with Wookie’s mom this evening to talk about plans for tomorrow. I can tell Wookie did a great job raising her. She was well mannered, funny and didn’t use read as a noun.

We here are all praying for Jaxon. He is a tough, little pup. Reports from the Quilt are that some discussion has occurred about the correct way to swaddle. No one seems to know, so I believe the Smoochers are taking turns tucking tail to nose and curling around the little guy.

Around here Cottonwoods are considered a nuisance tree. They plant themselves where ever they want, and in the spring it is like a blizzard of “cotton”. At our old house (before my time) we had a huge cottonwood and the cat Kasie, loved to climb it, but not so keen on getting down. Strangely enough, she always made it back by dark. I hear that she was a good kitty, mom’s very first pet, in her 20’s. (Mom’s 20’s, not Kasie’s)

    They’re Back!
Never again is anyone allowed to leave home without their iPaw. We missed you all too much.
I can report nothing much has gotten done around here other than the mandatory Grocery Run to fill up the Empty Fridge.
This was followed by an afternoon of naps because of something called Jet Lag…whatever that is. Naps I understand, but why do you need a reason to take one?
Some not so great news…Someone left the plants outside…what with no rain and warmer than usual temperatures this past week they are looking very sad indeed. An attempt is being made to nurse them back to life. Personally I think it’s a lost cause.
As usual Masquers has been off doing his own thing. Last night he reported being on location with a film crew in Ballard. Apparently they were Making a Movie with Keira Knightly. Big neighborhood crowds turned out to watch the action.
Just wanted y’all to know an attempt was made to post a picture, but this takes a brain and ours is in freeze mode.
