I know we don’t talk politics, but have to say we agree. Foolishness! What do they think they are accomplishing?

Is Spence about done with his tour?

Maggie, If I am not mistaken, RJ Julia is the last stop on this leg of the tour.

UGH! Even two-legged cough syrup is yucky!

Maggie – we understand about medicine. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “a bitter pill to swallow”. But do take your meds, my dear, so you won’t feel so yucky.

And we know about not discussing politics, but this isn’t politics. This is kindergarteners fighting over the toys in the sandbox.

There was a news story last night about an Honor Flight of WWII veterans whose community had done fund raisers and donated to finance this trip to the monuments created in honor of their service. Of course, the Park Services had shut down all the monuments by putting fencing around them. Now for those of you who have not been to DC, most of the monuments are out in the open air along a path through a grassy field. There isn’t a gate to pass through, or a fence around them. They are out there like statues in a park. So what was the purpose of putting fences around them so that these men and women who dutifully served, and had now made this trip thanks to the generosity of their community could not see and be a part of the monuments dedicated to them? Stupidity. So, the veterans very matter of factly moved the fence and walked, or wheelchaired right up to the granite commemorative tribute to their service. And the Park Service people who were there stood aside and let them.
    sniff….

When I volunteered at a Wildlife Sanctuary, I learned more than I wanted to know about voles. What I can remember about them? Extremely high heartrate, an adult female vole can have up to ten litters a year, and they reach maturity in one month.

They do not tunnel in the earth, but make tunnels through long grass and snow. How to keep them in check?

Politics? Those grown-ups are acting like 3rd graders at recess while the country gets shut down.

Barb&Maggie: How many shots of that cough syrup do you have to give/take?

Here, no one can go boating, because the ramps are closed. Well, except for the people with boats at the marina, I guess they can still go out, but even fishing from the banks requires a mile walk, since the gates are locked. I guess we will not go fishing today, darn. This was going to be the day that I made up for my 45 year absence from the fishing world. Not.

The furnace mayhem continues. The gas company showed up a full day ahead of schedule, before the plumbing inspector has put his stamp of approval on the pipes. So, the gas company can’t hang the meter, and said they can’t come back until we reschedule – which takes 3 days! HUH? Plumbing inspector is scheduled for 2 today. Gas Company was scheduled for first thing tomorrow morning.

NOBODY takes pills as well as BooBear. We used to give Gus a series of pills twice a day and he was usually a good boy about it. BooBear takes an anti anxiety pill every morning. I put her up on her cat tree where we are eye level. I pat the side of her face and she opens her mouth for me to drop the pill down her throat. At first, I thought I was imagining this and that I was somehow opening her mouth for her, but I’m not. Now if she would learn some tricks that will make her famous and me rich!!

Welcome to the Divided State of America. Yes, kindergarteners are more mature than these politicians. They’ve taken posturing/posing to a whole new level. Seriously, if they’re going to shut down the government, instead of this fake shutdown thing that’s pretty much for show, why not shut down truly useless parts of it? Like IRS. And Congress. Good on those vets, I say!

We had our awards dinner last night. No video or photos posted yet, as far as I know, but I tellyou, we were in good company. The other four award recipients really had awesome stories. Like the couple (he’s passed, unfortunately) who, 24 years into their marriage, husband Joe came down with some nasty form of MS. Not that there’s a good kind. Anyway, they rearranged their business, and she devoted the next 30 years of their marriage to being his sole caregiver. Thy traveled, they visited interesting places, they laughed and enjoyed their grown children and (I think) grandchildren, they lived life to the full. Four tales of courage, and us. It was a fantastic evening. And Leno got to see his friend Kate the golden retriever.

Pills. Never pleasant. I just shove them down doggie throats. Leno lets me. It grosses Melanie right out though.

It was a lovely afternoon. As close as the butterfly place is, we have never been there before. From the moment we walked through the door, the silly grim never left my face. Thousands and thousands of butterflies, flitting and darting and brushing our faces with soft powdered wings. There were tropical plants and fragrant flowers in a lovely greenhouse type setting with trickling waterfalls and stone paths through the foliage.
We stopped to admire an amazing lizard in a nice, large terrarium. Leonard asked me to take a picture, but I told him that the glass would reflect too much. A woman standing to the side offered to open the lizard’s tank, so I did get some great shots. Turns out she is the owner of the place, and she was very impressed that I knew what a tegu lizard was. In this weird world of synchronicity, there was an article in this morning’s paper about tegu lizards and the devastation they are causing in the everglades where irresponsible pet owners have turned them loose.
Anyway, the owner ended up giving us a personal guided tour, and letting us pet lizards and parrots and Chinese Button Quail.
The butterflies fell in love with Leonard and he had at least one sitting on him most of the time we were there.
    It was just lovely.

My Two-Legged is enjoying her visit with her folks even though she’s had to work on her vacation. I’ve been battling Tenzing for her side of the bed. Right now, he’s winning the battle, but the war has just begun. Place your money on me, folks.

I don’t like hearing about CHobbit’s bad luck. She is very special to me. I have decided not to bedazzle anything until her luck changes. I hope it changes soon because I have some glitter I want to add to the Giant’s finishing sled. I also have some sparkle I want to add to the Giant’s beard when he isn’t looking.

    Nighty noodles.

Oh, by the way, the Detroit Tigers are in first place in their division.

    Go Detroit!
