Have a spencerful Saturday.
8:55 am on October 18th, 2014
Good morning all. Beautiful day here as well. Have fun Spence.
Heading off for Lily’s fall horse show after coffee is consumed.
Should be fun, although Iowa, Lily’s Appy, has come up lame for the second time in two months. She will not be riding him today. This is a concern as he is only 4 or 5 years old.
9:01 am on October 18th, 2014
Have fun Spence!
Hope Iowa is okay.
Good morning all.

Happy Birthday to B.!
9:11 am on October 18th, 2014
Nods to all – so far it is still dark here with clouds scudding past the moon which is only a sliver of cheese. Yum!
While Spence signs, Catty will work the Library at the Farmers Market – also outside but not such a nice day so far – low 40s.
Hope yawl have a good weekend day.

BB, We are in for a penny, in for a pound. You can leave out mouse turds on our order, thank you very much.
50 degrees high here today, so dressing in layers for the outside show. At least they serve coffee and a hot lunch!
10:05 am on October 18th, 2014
I’m glad the signing is outside on a beautiful day. The parade would be fun to watch. (We have a wind chill of 40 here and the fall colors are beautiful!)
Thank you BB.
Good morning all.

Staff: I love your “design wall.” Did you invent it? What an excellent way to make the pattern. (You can see that I’ve never quilted in my life.)

Happy B-day to B.
The design wall is a flannel fabric that has blue lines every two inches (or so). It is ‘or so’ because when you stretch it they can become larger than 2 inches one way or the other. It is held up with a little removable adhesive spray and tiny map tacks. I love map tacks! They are so very useful.
You can place fabric on it and it sticks to the flannel fairly well. A strong breeze can blow it off so you don’t turn the ceiling fan on high when you are using it.
WOLFIE please check your SDD soon.

A signing by the sea on a beautiful day and a dog parade to boot! Enjoy!
Happy Birthday B!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR LURKER!
12:08 pm on October 18th, 2014
Happy Birthday B (and also Dear Lurker) and greetings to all.
I am excited to be heading for my first opera-at-the-movies outing of the season, but with cautious optimism since the production photos suggest that a) it’s been “updated” with sets and costumes that look like 1920s-30s rich folks household; and b) the best-looking woman in the cast is playing a man. Sigh. Opera–what can you do, it’s about the voices.
No pretzels for me, thanks. (Something about those big chunks of salt on the outside…)
Catchya later…
12:12 pm on October 18th, 2014
Aaaagh! Please forgive! I thought you were talking about virtual pretzels. No offense meant.

We love those pretzels, but Mom has sworn off that stuff for now.

Chicken coop cleaned. Check.

HRH, B: May all your birthday wishes come true. Enjoy your day! Is a fine glass of wine and a story with Charlie planned?
Happiest of birthdays to you, Lurker! Many happy returns!
For the 2016 calendar, I think Plunderer birthdays should be noted. I’ll get that list next year, though.

Wyatt stole our avatar! He may be a late bloomer, but he lives up to the good name of Outlaw when you least expect it. He makes us proud.
1:28 pm on October 18th, 2014
Zoe, you and Mac are in our thought and pawrayers today especially. Pleaase accept slobbery newfie kisses from Darah Thea. Dainty licks from Lucy Lou the Labradoo. Energetic licks from Blondie. Please don’t be offended that Pookey doesn’t send licks, she doesn’t kiss anyone.
1:31 pm on October 18th, 2014
Thieves: Amen and amen to your Prayer.
Sending Lots of Love & Big Bear Hugs, Zoe. This is our Favorite Memory of your dear Mattie on this side of the Bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79H3iBg7Vxo&list=PLAD0502ADEB2B5E21

So sorry to hear about Mattie. She was much loved by Zoe, Our Dear Friend, and by all of us on the blog. Rest peacefully Mattie.
And Happy Birthday to Bee and Linda L. I hope you both enjoy your special day.
3:05 pm on October 18th, 2014
Videos!…I’ve been re-watching all the Riverbear Newf videos and thinking of all our friends who have passed over the rainbow bridge..sniffle!… Those videos are so great!
3:09 pm on October 18th, 2014
Zoe!….Mattie, she will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her. I’m so sorry for your loss….sniffle!
3:30 pm on October 18th, 2014
Thank you so much for the kind birthday wishes. The best birthday gift ever was the birth of my older son who turned 39 yesterday. Our family celebrated our “special days” today.
Rio: I love that card. Thank you. One of my sons is an Aries. An Aries may be hard for a Libra to understand but is not at all hard to love.
Zoe, my heart is with you. We will always remember Mattie.
Teddy RR: 21! Ha! (Although I still feel like I’m 21 sometimes.)
3:49 pm on October 18th, 2014
Young!…I bet The Lurker feels 21 right after a strengthening cocktail…heh!heh!
3:57 pm on October 18th, 2014
RIO! That was such a nice card.
Zoe: Mattie will live on in your heart always, and your love will live in hers. Many friends and family will be on the Bridge with her. God speed to you both.
Royal Mum: Such a lovely tribute. sniff
3:59 pm on October 18th, 2014
Ooooo, I am the 51st post again. I wonder what four-legged will give me a special kiss….
4:04 pm on October 18th, 2014
I am under the Rose quilt. I haven’t slept well in days, and I may be having side effects from the withdrawal of some of my “happy” pills.
4:27 pm on October 18th, 2014
Rio! Sweetie, you know me too well. Don’t you love that term, “strengthening cocktail”!?
Wose, hope you get some sound sleep so the world looks better.
5:07 pm on October 18th, 2014
Rose!…Get some sleep. Sleep is a good thing especially in the afternoon…snort!yawn!…We are starting to think Beau is losing his hearing because he has been sleeping through “events”…grunt!…Like once he was sleeping in front of the front door and her mother stepped over him and opened the door to get the paper. He never woke up….grunt!….The other time was when her mother left us to go shopping and when she came back, opened the garage door and then came in through the back door only to find Beau sound asleep…snort!
5:13 pm on October 18th, 2014
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: What happened to cancel the Horse Show today?
Sorry to hear about Iowa’s problems.
Wose: Sleepless in Seattle too. It does not bode well for the Waking Hour.
Billy’sBuddy: Go ahead and have that Strengthening Cocktail.
It’s your Day to Howl.
5:25 pm on October 18th, 2014
Zoe and Mac–It’s only a temporary separation (which is cold comfort at first, but still true). Holding you in my heart and thoughts.
5:44 pm on October 18th, 2014
Barb – we too want to know why the horse show was cancelled. Is everyone ok?
Rio – could be that Beau is just so much at home, and so relaxed that he doesn’t bother with sounds of household living. Try whispering something sacreligious in his presence, and see if he jumps up spouting bible verses.
5:46 pm on October 18th, 2014
Osterville!….I am wondering how the stint in Osterville went today…sniff!…Was there a guy following up behind cleaning the street after the parade? Did Spencer get some candy when it was thrown out by – who?…snort!
5:49 pm on October 18th, 2014
Beau!…He is an entity unto himself. I have given up trying to influence him in my worldly-pug ways…gruffle!…He is going gray at an alarming rate too…snort! …We are wondering how old he really is, now that he does not have his monthly hair-coloring appointments…chorkel!
6:37 pm on October 18th, 2014
I’m with the Royals…Beau is feeling at home and safe at last…it was a very good thing that your friend did adopting him and you, Riö, accepting him.
Spence had a great day for the signing by the sea.
6:39 pm on October 18th, 2014
Oh are we lucky dogs! We got some turkey tidbits after the 2 leggers finished dinner. All we had to do was sit patiently and keep our noses away from the table. Only one fox paw, Darah walked under the table and moved it (she doesn’t know how big she is 🙂
6:41 pm on October 18th, 2014
Hey, maybe OFA will post a foto of the gala in Osterville tomorrow to go with the Chetspeak.
6:42 pm on October 18th, 2014
And to yet another: Arigato, Dr. Masaru Emoto. RIP.
“Water is the mirror that has the ability to show us what we cannot see. It is a blueprint for our reality, which can change with a single, positive thought. All it takes is faith, if you’re open to it.”
6:45 pm on October 18th, 2014
Rio, We thought Beau was about 6. Is that right? Maybe he is really older. BTW, cool card.
We love the term strengthening cocktail. It makes it sound so positive and healthy, doesn’t it?
Nothing seriously wrong today. Weather was just cold and crummy, so first the show was delayed and then it was cancelled. Barb stayed for awhile and watched Lily ride another horse in the indoor. Pastures are very muddy and they think maybe Iowa restrained his leg. If this keeps up the v*e*t thinks they should consider an X-ray. Sounds expensive, doesn’t it? Kelly says big animals, big medical bills!
Baye is doing a school report on family ancestry. Barb loves this stuff, so she is researching and reading thru some papers she has. Barb’s 5 x great grandfather, Joab Houghton, fought in the Revolutionary War against the English. Barb has a photo she took in 2002 of the Houghton School that was built in Caldwell County, Mo. by her great grandfather in 1887. The one room school house functioned till 1945. There was 1 teacher for 1st thru 8th grades, and it was heated with a wood burning stove. There was an outhouse in back. Barb’s mom and her 6 siblings went to that school. Barb’s mom rode her horse 3 miles every day to the high school. 5 out of the 7 children went to college, and one even got her PHD. Unheard of in the Depression! Granddad was a poor Missouri farmer, but he was also a teacher and encouraged his 5 daughters to go to college. Family history is so interesting!
6:51 pm on October 18th, 2014
Zoe, our hearts break for you today. Hold tight to you precious Mac in memory of all those who have gone before him and allow him to be your strength.
7:17 pm on October 18th, 2014
Dear Zoe – thoughts of comfort for you and Mac.
Well said, MTMP.
Bear – I like the quote.
HRH-Bee and LL – Happy Birthday! and many more.
Howlers – big game tonight…
7:37 pm on October 18th, 2014
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: We, too, are fascinated with our family roots going Back in Time. One of our relatives has done quite extensive research on our Norwegian Ancestry.
7:55 pm on October 18th, 2014
Barb!…I would never have guessed you were Norwegian…snort!…What with that fair skin, bright eyes and white hair…heh!heh!…Oh an don’t forget that daredevil spirit…wheeze!
7:58 pm on October 18th, 2014
I love that ancestry show “Who Do You Think You Are” Does anyone else like that show?
When Barb’s grandmother was raising her 7 kids on the farm, her FIL lived with them. He required homemade biscuits 3 times a day. He finally told Grandma he would be willing to have reheated biscuits at lunch and dinner, so she only needed to bake for him once a day. What a great guy!
8:28 pm on October 18th, 2014
We just finished dinner, and now it is time for The Game. Go Irish!
(Whispering) hope we can stay awake.
8:30 pm on October 18th, 2014
The Storyteller and I did research too. Our ancestors were from here.
8:41 pm on October 18th, 2014
Rio: Think Vikings!
Tupper’s Mama: Snort!
8:46 pm on October 18th, 2014
College!…Footballie is not my thing….snort!…But I hope yer teams win!…heh!
9:54 pm on October 18th, 2014
Geez. A lot goes on on this here blog between the time A.Catty is on the computer in the morning, and then again at night. Newfs moving on and moving tables (is it a seance?) with pretzels at ball games by the seaside while ancestors sign books at the ball game and horses prance by….
Wose, I will try to figure out how to do LDM (long distance massage) and when I do, you will know.
10:04 pm on October 18th, 2014
We are saying night all.
10:24 pm on October 18th, 2014
Original!…Seven Brides for Seven Brothers…heh!…Watching it on public tv channel..snuffle!
10:48 pm on October 18th, 2014
Then by the time we get back everyone has called it a night, so we shall do likewise. Mom had a busy day at the church fall festival, and I had yard patrol. Those dam skirrels are making my yard look like a mine field. Dig, dig, dig, all day long.

Zoe, I am so sorry about your beautiful Mattie. It’s so hard to lose our babies.
Happy birthday, B and Linda! Hope your day was special.
11:17 pm on October 18th, 2014
Good nighty noodles all.
Zoe I am thinking about your great grandbaby due any day now. Will you let us know as soon as Melanie’s grand baby arrives? We are waiting, not so patiently, for news.
11:54 pm on October 18th, 2014
Goodnight, family.
11:55 pm on October 18th, 2014
I thought I’d check back after pulling up the Pinto Memo for my students–depressing reading–and now everyone seems to be headed for Dreamland. Well, OK–me too then, I guess.
(Barb, Mag and Lucy–“strengthening cocktail” is a favorite term I’ve borrowed from P.G. Wodehouse’s Bertie Wooster–a dubious role model, but a man who knew where his strengths lay).
Bright blessings all…
1:09 am on October 19th, 2014
What a coincidence that a friend of mine and I were discussing books we love that others might disdain, and who did she bring up but Bertie Wooster! I have a little scrap of paper right here by my computer with P. G. Wodehouse, Bertie Wooster and his manservent Jeeves noted for inspection! No scrap of paper on my desk goes missing before inspection. If that is the source of the “strengthening cocktail” I’m in!
7:29 am on October 19th, 2014
If Staff had to choose a favorite author, aside from Our Favorite Author, she would choose PG Wodehouse. She says he has given her more laughs per page than any other author.
