Good Saturday morning to everyone. Almost Egg Day, Oleys.
Those oysters look good, although they are an acquired taste. Fresh Market has half price lobster tails and crab legs next Tuesday. May have to go buy some. Barb had a relative that used to say clam feet instead of crab legs.
Barb has some cleaning to do this morning. Muttering something about extra hair and drool.
9:50 am on November 17th, 2012
Good Morning, Barb and Maggie.
Eggs!!! Eggads!! We are all out, so Mom must drive over to the place she has been buying them and hope they have put them out by now. Also must get to the Feed for a bunch of stuff for birds, horses, and US!
Wish we could go to Osterville to see Spence. Will Chet be there?
9:55 am on November 17th, 2012
I love oysters on the half-shell…and crab legs and lobster.
Have a good time Spence.
Good morning all.
9:55 am on November 17th, 2012
Good morning B&M and Howlers.
Maggie: is your Newfie guest still there?
Oysters! Sounds good to us (someone must be feeling better)
9:56 am on November 17th, 2012
Good morning B 🙂
10:02 am on November 17th, 2012
Masquers, you must be better. Raw oysters are not for the squeamish, especially first thing in the morning.
Yes, Gus will be here till next Friday. Not sure how many days that is, but it is more than two. Barb says he looks bigger here than at Kelly’s.
Have fun today Spence.

I don’t know if Hostess makes Zingers but according to an article in the NYTimes, the company has ceased baking and is going into bankruptcy. This paragraph made me laugh out loud:
“Speaking personally, the news sent me into a panic. A Hostess shutdown would mean an end to certain rare and delicious moments of guilty bliss, those few seconds that come right after devouring a Ring Ding and right before the stomach realizes what has happened” (Dan Barry).
10:25 am on November 17th, 2012
We still say that the first person who ever opened an oyster and said,”oooo – that looks yummy – I think I will eat that” was the bravest person of the time.
And Mama says the same goes for anyone who can look one in the eye now and actually put it in their mouth.
Now lobster and crab legs on the other hand…
Good morning all
10:30 am on November 17th, 2012
Mommy’s favorite food growing up was Hostess cupcakes. So much so that one year her birthday cake was made of them all stacked up and frosted over.
10:47 am on November 17th, 2012
Good Morning Everyone!
Mom is sobbing over the loss of the Hostess chocolate cupcakes. They have been around since she was a kid.
Ugh, mom says to oysters…both the ones from the ocean and Rocky Mountain oysters. I am sure I would like either one.
10:50 am on November 17th, 2012
Barb’s relative (now decesaed) used to say in all seriousness, “Let’s go out for all-you-can-eat clam feet”. Barb thought that was hysterical for some reason.
We agree with T & G, we prefer other kids of shell fish. However, if you have had a cocktail or two, they go down easier.
11:01 am on November 17th, 2012
Good Saturday Morning!
I love shellfish of any kind! Unforunately, the Prof is allergic to shellfish. Masquers and Siber-H, I would love to dine on shellfish with both of youse guys!
Very sad about Hostess…love Twinkies, and the cupcakes! On the news last night, it was reported that people are hoarding Twinkies and selling them on Ebay. Some of the asking prices start at $10,000. Egads!
Prof and I are going to see Denzel Washington’s film “Flight” today.
Everyone enjoy your day!

Thought for the day and the holiday season:
Calories don’t exist unless you count them.
That may not apply to Twinkies.
11:21 am on November 17th, 2012
BlueCat – Mama always says calories don’t count if no one sees you eat them.
11:23 am on November 17th, 2012
Did anyone ever have a deep fried Twinkie? We have not, but have seen them being cooked. Is there anything real in those things?
Wonder how the striking employees feel about being told to get back to work or the company was closing. Maybe they didn’t take them seriously!
Barb is off to do some errands.
11:25 am on November 17th, 2012
First, oysters. Yes, I will have oysters. Now a story about oysters.
The best oysters in the world are Rappahannock oysters. OTAS was two when I took him to a pig roast and oyster shelling party. He usually stayed right next to me. I look up and he was gone. I found him by the old guys who were shucking oysters for people. They were plopping oysters into his open mouth. Amusing if you were not his mother. I asked how many he had had. The old guys looked at each other (guiltily) and said, “Umm, about twelve.” I forbade them to give him anymore. Later he was under the roasted pig table with the dogs. The host was feeding OTAS the best part of the pig.
Sigh, he didn’t have a stomach ache, and he still loves both of those things.
11:31 am on November 17th, 2012
Twinkies . . if we dehydrate some twinkles would they be light enough for Feed the Giant?
Does the Giant eat Twinkies? Does anyone really eat twinkles? I dimly remember them sort of dissolving in my mouth. Of course, that was cough, cough, cough, cough, years ago.
11:31 am on November 17th, 2012
BlueKat, I have always known that was a holiday rule.
11:38 am on November 17th, 2012
I’m laughing about OTAS under the table with the dogs…smart kid.
11:44 am on November 17th, 2012
This is my Golinka original. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
I wanted to hang something by the window that looks out on the almost-ski/closed-golf-course. The window is plain because of the view, but it needed something. This is perfect.
Amaiia and I argued over the price – she doesn’t charge enough – so I will be donating to Snowhook in Amalia’s name as well as mine and Sammie’s.
11:47 am on November 17th, 2012
Speculation seems to be that another company will buy Hostess and all of their nutritional delights will still be available.
Sam: A stack of Hostess Cupcakes frosted over the frosting???
12:04 pm on November 17th, 2012
Busy!…Someone here is going to be very busy today getting all her ducks in a row before the holiday boutique deadline…gasp!…Which is today, right? Or is it tomorrow?…sniff!sniff!….Either way, gasp!
12:20 pm on November 17th, 2012
MollyPop’s Mom, I love how that is put together. Excellent.
I am going down to pick up one of the auction items today. I have to go today because though I was down there on Thursday, they told me it wasn’t going to be ready until later. When I got back on Thursday, I had an email saying it was ready. Yikes. Friday I had to do something else. Today I took Zoë to my sister’s church for there “Holiday Boutique”. I did look up the store’s hours because I have to go in on Sunday (Amalia’s sparkling show) and Monday (blood tests). They are closed Sunday and Monday.
Today I’ve been down the hill one way now I get to go with other.
12:22 pm on November 17th, 2012
Riö: No! Say it isn’t so. Didn’t Bella say she needed everything by the 24th?
Hostess! Gasp. Does this mean Little Debbies too?
12:23 pm on November 17th, 2012
We here have never even eaten twinkies, nor anything else made by Hostess, except maybe once we tried a devil dog, which didn’t begin to compare with ring dings or yodels, both made by Drake.
12:29 pm on November 17th, 2012
B., the cake was three layers of Hostess cupcakes stacked in a cake shape and then covered with chocolate frosting.
12:35 pm on November 17th, 2012
Oysters, pig roast and twinkees. I woke up hungry today.
Mollypop’s Mom: That is a beautiful thingee that Amalia made.
Somebody (Macy?) posted a recipe for moosehead cupcakes quite awhile back. The head is half a twinkee. Now how am I going to make those moosehead cupcakes?
I have to shovel. It’s the man’s turn but he got an emergency call to help shovel out neighbors so I’m the one.
12:49 pm on November 17th, 2012
Plunderful News!
I have some important checkpoint news but it will have to wait until I: have breakfast; shovel snow and double check my numbers.
1:23 pm on November 17th, 2012
Deep fried Twinkies and double frosted Hostess Cupcakes….I’m glad I’ve already had breakfast. (I used to love the cupcakes especially the delightful cream inside.)
1:33 pm on November 17th, 2012
Bluecat: Thank you for the smile! It came at the right time.
Rose: A very interesting background story on your name. I did know that Rosemary was George’s aunt. What nice company you keep!
Dawson: Looking forward to your update. Hurry back.
1:44 pm on November 17th, 2012
Mark my word. Somebody out there will make counterfeit Twinkies in their basement.
1:57 pm on November 17th, 2012
Terry: The counterfeit will NEVER do. But you are right…that won’t stop someone from trying.
As B noted earlier with the quote from Dan Barry…this is a crisis of major proportion.
Feeling better, but still not quite tip top.
Off to have some Magical Chicken Soup.
BBL
P.S. Staff, Please check your SDD.

Thanks for taking one of the toughest checkpoints, Koyuk. Yeep! Congratulations also to SiberH. and the Native American Veterans – Navajo Code Talkers for getting their checkpoints funded – I know it will help AJ and the doggies on the trail to have your innate knowledge, spiritual values and sheer pugnacious determination on the trail.

I forgot the most important name on the donations. Blue Cat!
Blue cat gave to all the checkpoints and the original checkpoint-sized donation was used as start up funds for most of the checkpoints as well. Thank you, Blue Cat! You’re Plunderificent!
3:32 pm on November 17th, 2012
Whew!…My friend just finished sending all of her donated items to Rebecca…gasp!….Uh – oh she forgot to do something…grump!

4:41 pm on November 17th, 2012
Yes… thank you to all the Plunderers and Lurkers. Because of you we have 10 totally funded checkpoints, 3 more that are well on the way to being fully funded and three more to be announced this weekend – one of them right now.
🙂 Checkpoint Update 🙂
Rose and the Professor will be at the start of the Iditarod. It has been suggested and seems fitting to sponsor Anchorage – the Ceremonial Start for our intrepid couple from New York! (Bugles blowing) The R & P Ceremonial Start to the Iditarod – the Anchorage checkpoint – is now open for donations.
4:54 pm on November 17th, 2012
My head is spinning…
🙂 Update out of date 🙂
No sooner had I updated the checkpoints than another one got sponsored in full! It is time for us to remember our roots: Chet the Dog! SiberH has sponsored a checkpoint in the name of Chet the Dog. Rebecca will choose a checkpoint when she gets home/wakes up/feeds the dogs/cleans up the store/arranges auction items/stocks the shelves and cooks a moose.
Thank you SiberH and thank you Chet the Dog (you too Bernie).
5:03 pm on November 17th, 2012
Dawson: Wooohooo!!! Please check your SDD.
5:10 pm on November 17th, 2012
Siber: You’re the Top Dawg around here in my book. Chet is in the 2013 Iditarod thanks to you.
Kool runnings, Chet the Jet!
5:29 pm on November 17th, 2012
Great news about all of the checkpoints. Dawson, you are doing a great job.
Rio, you had asked about grandpa. After a rocky start, he is starting to get with the program and the last three days have been much better. But he still has a long road ahead, probably at least six weeks if not longer.
Christmas movies. We just love White Christmas (both renditions of “Sisters”); Miracle on 34th Street (the original); Scrooge (Alastair Sim) and Scrooged; and our two favorites are It’s a Wonderful Life and Christmas in Connecticut (with the terrific Barbara Stanwyck).
Wookie
5:49 pm on November 17th, 2012
Wookie: It would be wonderful to have your grandpa home for Christmas. I know how much you miss him and he misses you. Have you been able to visit him?
We love those movies too. Especially the original Miracle on 34th Street with Natalie Wood. And Christmas in Connecticut! Haven’t seen that one in a long time. Lastly, it just wouldn’t be the holidays without Alastair Sim as Scrooge.
5:58 pm on November 17th, 2012
Sorry, Wookie. A faux paw. I know you celebrate Hanukkah and that is coming up in 3 weeks. Too soon for Grandpa to return home. Maybe they will let you in to visit him if you wear your Therapy Dog Vest.
6:06 pm on November 17th, 2012
Home! Mom and Pop just got back home with Annie the Beautiful and Ned the Intrepid. They went riding in their favorite place: Green Lane Park. Mom says for all she knows that could be the last real trail ride of the season )as opposed to “field rides” from pur farm.
Hurray for all the checkpoints!

Barb is posting a pic she took this afternoon of me and the Guster. I am greeting Rich, a teenage son of one of our friends. Gus is the well mannered one.

6:23 pm on November 17th, 2012
Magpie: I never took you for a jumper. You must have been really happy to see that guy.
Is Gus settling in okay?
6:28 pm on November 17th, 2012
Gus!…It looks like Gus could take down all of Barb’s nick-nacks with one sweep of his tail….heh!heh!
6:33 pm on November 17th, 2012
Wookie!…Good to hear your grandpaw is hanging in there…snorkel!…My friend remembers all the times she watched her grandma go through rehab for new knees and a hip and then an elbow…grunt!….We used to tease grandma about being the Bionic Woman…chorkel!
6:37 pm on November 17th, 2012
Over-flowing!…I hope Rebecca’s SDD is filled with Holiday Boutique itesm just waiting to be put on the brand new shelves…snorkel!…Is she traveling today? Will we hear from her do you think?…grunt!
6:38 pm on November 17th, 2012
BSD, I wasn’t exactly jumping. More like trying to get close to his ears. Did I mention that I love ears?
Gus does have a big tail, but it isn’t as dangerous as a Great Dane tail. Newfs do everything in slo-mo, so his tail wags slowly too. I dart, he lumbers.
Gus seems to be happy here. Since Joey crossed over in October Gus was a little depressed, so we think he likes being with another of his kind.
6:39 pm on November 17th, 2012
Riö, what are nicknacks? We have 9 Newfound tails here, but I don’t I’ve seen a Nicknack. Maybe the Pack chased them off?
6:42 pm on November 17th, 2012
Obviously I’ve been reading only every other word. I thought we were starting the Auction. What is happening? I’d love to know.
6:46 pm on November 17th, 2012
Whoo Hoooo
The Shake your Bootie list it up to 275.00. For a variation, here is a running Husky…

6:56 pm on November 17th, 2012
Rio: I don’t know if we will hear from my Two-legged today. She left the house before the crack of anything this morning. She sent a text saying her flight has been delayed because of mechanical issues. She says it is better to find out these things when on the ground than in the air. Who knows when she will be home.
6:56 pm on November 17th, 2012
Melanie!….And any others that refuse to read every word…grunt!…Listen up! Or read up!
Day after Thanksgiving – Black Friday Night – The Grand Opening of the Holiday Boutique….snort!…Time to be determined by Rebecca…grunt!
Nov. 30th – Friday Night – The Auction Opens!…snort!…Time to be determined by Rebecca…grunt!
Deadlines!…So that means this weekend is the deadline for Rebecca to receive your Holiday Boutique photos and descriptions…sniff!…Nov. 24th is the deadline for you to send in your Auction items photos and descriptions…wheeze! …Any questions?
7:06 pm on November 17th, 2012
Thanks Staff, What a fine looking dog…a Husky with snow…lucky dawg.
7:06 pm on November 17th, 2012
Riö, please check SDD!
7:07 pm on November 17th, 2012
Oh, and thank you Riö. I sorta kinda remember that. Maybe . .
7:09 pm on November 17th, 2012
Melanie!…Well done!…snort!snort!…Emergency has been diverted to another day…heh!
7:11 pm on November 17th, 2012
Husky!…Too bad there isn’t a photo of a Pug and a Husky running together – or Pug being pulled by Husky in a warm comfortable sled…heh!heh!…I like that last idea way better…snorkel!
7:29 pm on November 17th, 2012
Barb&Maggie: Maggie looks almost as big as Gus!
In the Ceremonial Start to the Iditarod in my dream SiberH and Rio are the lead dogs.
7:44 pm on November 17th, 2012
Melanie, Mom promises she will get a couple of pics of boutique items sent tomorrow and then sent to Rebecca as soon as you send them back. Since they will be a day late, they will probably be at the back of the boutique shelf, sigh, but Mom had to work today and didn’t get the pictures taken. Sometimes, there just isn’t enough time in the day. How does Rebecca do it?
7:46 pm on November 17th, 2012
We had better put Rio in the sled and me and the Howlers will pull him around. We could attain speeds Rio could only dream of.
7:48 pm on November 17th, 2012
Maggie, you look great! And Gus looks like a sweetheart. Thanks for posting, Barb.
We are watching our Irish team via DVR.
8:04 pm on November 17th, 2012
G&BB, I think she sleeps while traveling. Hopefully, just in the airplane and not when she’s driving.
8:06 pm on November 17th, 2012
Back after the movies, and doing some busy place work.
MPM: The Royal Mum’s art looks beautiful at your window.
Maggie: Love the picture of you! You are quite a beautiful dog. Boy, that Newf is BIG!
Awesome Dawson: The Prof and I would be honored and humbled to have a checkpoint sponsored on our behalf.
The Prof and I highly recommend “Flight”. Very good performances, particularly by Denzel Washington. The opening scene is very well done, and a little scary. I wonder if the Prof and I could run a team of huskies to the Iditarod instead of flying.
Belle Starr: Can I buy a bearskin rug in Alaska? My cubicle mate would like one.
Maybe us girls can get some shopping done while I’m there. 🙂
8:07 pm on November 17th, 2012
Masquers, check your SDD.
Well . . speaking of oysters today had me going out on a full blown search for Rappahannock Oysters! And I found them! Already shucked!
Calling them Monday to set up getting them for Christmas. YUMMERS.
8:14 pm on November 17th, 2012
Okay, catch up time.
MagPie, you look beautiful. Gus looks like he’s having a good time. Rich looks like a great guy.
Wöökie, Glad your Grandpa is now with the program. He’ll be feeling better in no time. Then he’ll want to do too much before he’s ready. Be aware you might have to sit on him.
Rose, think I’m going to miss Flight. Not something I want to see in big screen. Now small screen? When I can pause it? That I can do.
Dawson? Awesome job.
Now it’s time for me to go upstairs. That takes forever. Have to turn everything off and down. Fold the laundry. Empty the dishwasher. Give Patsy her pills. Give the other dogs a treat. Then go upstairs to my nice warm bed without any baseball toys in it. Just pillows and a Patsy.
TTFN
8:23 pm on November 17th, 2012
Dawson, Gus is almost double Maggie’s size. He is about 160 and she is 85, but very furry.
Barb just started The King of Torts by Grisham. It’s not a new one, but does anyone remember reading it?
8:41 pm on November 17th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: We may have read it, but now is not the time to answer. Brain is not running on all cylinders and memory bank has shutdown for the night.
Following Melanie’s lead and going to our nice warm bed.
Until tomorrow – Bear
8:55 pm on November 17th, 2012
I was going to save this but decided it better go up now. Hat tip to Melanie.
By the way Melanie. You probably have no nicknacks because Paddy the Newfie whacked them. You should give him a bone…
just sayin’
9:02 pm on November 17th, 2012
Staff!…Where did you get that awesome photo of Me and SiberH!?….Wooooooo!..That is great! I have no idea when that was taken, do you SiberH?…heh!
9:03 pm on November 17th, 2012
Tails!…Hey! Our tails curl the same way…heh!…You gotta love that!
9:03 pm on November 17th, 2012
Following Bear’s lead and signing off for the night. Sweet dreams all.
9:05 pm on November 17th, 2012
WOO WOO
That photo!
Rio, That is you and me!
That is so cute!
9:06 pm on November 17th, 2012

Rio, Staff says Melanie found it. She is a whiz kid.
9:07 pm on November 17th, 2012
Rio, That could be us on our way to a Rockies game.
9:16 pm on November 17th, 2012
I’m in the process of getting a new computer set up and my email seems to be a little wonky (it’s me that’s wonky but I will blame it on the computer) I have received donations and (hopefully replied) to Masquers, Sammie and Amalia, Mollypop’s Mom this afternoon.
Checkpoint Central Plunders On.
Over and Out and Gone for the Night!
Staff: Perfect picture. But Rio and SiberH are right – Rio needs a sled.
9:19 pm on November 17th, 2012
SiberH!…I bet someone like Agent Wookie took that when we were on our way to the World Series last year….heh!heh!
Babe!…Guess which gem of a movie we found ON DEMAND Free Movies??…snort!….Yup! Babe..heh!… The narrating mice sound exactly how we imagine the Herb Kats voices sound….chorkel!…We haven’t seen this movie in AGES!
9:33 pm on November 17th, 2012
I wondered what took Molly’s Mom so long to get our money in. She is so lazy. It’s going to Wose’s checkpoint.
9:38 pm on November 17th, 2012
Yaaaawwwnnn – oooo, we are just stuffed. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, squash etc.
It was great, but after packing for the Short Shiny Show and cooking all afternoon, we are just done in. And getting up and out of the house tomorrow morning before sunrise…well, our warm snugly beds are calling.
It has been a wonderful day with good news on the blog, plus hearing from a good friend, plus getting everything done for tomorrow. We are sure there will be good dreams tonight.
See you all tomorrow.
9:39 pm on November 17th, 2012
Babe is a good movie. Mom bought it because of the Border Collies, but she ended up liking the pig almost as well as the dogs.
My favorite movie is Snowdogs.
10:46 pm on November 17th, 2012
Farmer!…”That’ll do pig.”…snort!snort!…What a great ending for a great movie…heh!heh!

11:17 pm on November 17th, 2012
Grump! I just got home and everyone is going to bed. Belle Starr forgot to relay the important part of my message earlier. It goes a little something like this: Woo and hoo! Fully funded checkpoints!
11:20 pm on November 17th, 2012

We are all awake in the middle of the night. Reason? Pop woke us all to tell us that the #1 and #2 teams lost tonight, leaving the Irish alone on top. #1 ! Woo Hoo! What a feeling! None of us huskies have ever lived thru a season like this! It’s a dream season!
Of course, we still have one game left, to our arch-rival USC. But for now, we are unbeaten, at 11-0! Life is good.
