To Fetch A Thief: PB
“Should we mention that To Fetch A Thief comes out in paperback Tuesday, July 5?” says Spence.
“It would be the mercantile thing to do,” says Admin.
“Meaning?”
“Yes, for God’s sake. And add that it’s not one of those crummy mass market pb’s, but the much fancier trade pb.”
“How about we call it the carriage trade paperback edition?”
“Are you making fun of me?”
“Would I ever do that?”
Welcome Running Enthusiast.

Hi Chet! The running enthusiast looks like he would be able to keep up with you! Even when you hit your long stride.
Oh, and tell Spencer that it’s okay to do the “mercantile thing”. That way you are kept in Slim Jims!
9:25 am on June 27th, 2011
Good Morning Melanie!
The Running Enthusiast is a very nice-looking dog.
Chet, Bernie, and Admin: The trade paperpack is the way to go!
Greetings to All!
9:31 am on June 27th, 2011
Good Morning Melanie & Rose!
Spence & Admin: Good to know you’re not going with the “crummy” mass market pb. snicker.
9:37 am on June 27th, 2011
(taking notes) salmon bonbons for Siber-H & Alice….
9:40 am on June 27th, 2011
Good Morning Rose and Zen Kat!
Still waiting for that promised sunshine. I do see some blue sky off to the west so there is some hope.
A Cool Thing: Asteroid 2011MD will be coming close to Earth (no chance of hitting us), and our gravity will make it sling shot around us and go in a different direction! Totally cool for us geeks.
A Hot Thing: The following link is for the U.S. Water Vapor Satellite which is not showing any relief for our Plunderers in Texas and the Southwest.

Good Morning Masquers!
Our posts are together again!
It is a beautiful day here in Westchester. Tommorow will be humid (yuck!), but the rest of the week seems to be shaping up nicely.
9:56 am on June 27th, 2011
We have a clear sky right now, but possible storms later. Barb says she better do some grass cutting this morning, just in case.
We still have those nasty buffalo gnats, which were supposed to be gone by now. Wondering if a second batch has hatched, due to wet/cool weather. They are awful (not awesome).
We also have somewhat of a tick problem. Sometimes Barb finds a little tick on me, but last night she saw me playing with something on the floor and at first she thought it was a sunflower seed. On closer inspection it was t giant tick, about the size of a lima bean. Gross! Does anyone know what kind those are? Needless to say, that one is no longer amongst the living.
10:15 am on June 27th, 2011
Good Morning Everyone!
Looks like the newest Friend of Chet could give me a run for my money!
(Whispering) For the upcoming Party-Barbeque tomorrow night. I will bring the fore-mentioned Spencer Steaks and plenty of Slim Jims for Wookie, Chet and the Pack. Rio, Is there a particular favorite treat or food item Wookie likes? We will be celebrating not only his birthday, but the end of treatments for him. Tummies all around on that!
10:17 am on June 27th, 2011
Bear, Must have missed that, what are Spencer Steaks?
Does Audrey know we are coming? What time does the party start?
10:19 am on June 27th, 2011
MagPie, you were chasing a Grosses Ixodidae. snicker
Last year was a bad year for ticks here. Now it is supposed to get worse. Yuck.
I’m doing the different Gummies.
(I wonder if there are secret spy gummies?)
10:25 am on June 27th, 2011
I couldn’t find any gummy bear spies, but I did find out that in Australia some school children made their gummy bears gooshy and then put their finger print on them.
When role call (though why they call it “call” I don’t know) they had friends use the gummy bears to put their finger prints on something to show they were there.
Hmmm. possible use for Commander Riö’s forces?
10:33 am on June 27th, 2011
Barb&Magpie: Spencer Steaks are a very delicious choice cut of beef. Zen-Kat was snickering about the name the other day.
Melanie: The US Water Vapor Satellite looks very ominous for the Southwest as to heat and the Midwest for soggy conditions. I do see a patch of warmer weather coming our way though. Actually, it has been very pleasant here. A good mix of rain and sunshine. Some people are mowing their lawns more once a week because the grass is growing so quickly.
10:45 am on June 27th, 2011
Can Chet help out by keeping Spence & Admin occupied with talk of the upcoming book, OR planning the next book in the series. Something to do with the Iditarod? Then there’s those T-shirts….
10:49 am on June 27th, 2011
Good morning everyone.
Running Enthusiast does look like he would have endurance extraordinaire. I love that brindle colored hair.
I can almost feel the heat in the southwest USA coming off that map site Melanie put up. I’m not going to complain about my weather for a week, because that’s how long it’s supposed to be crappy. I can always put coats and sweaters on. SiberH and his neighbors are just stuck with the heat and the smoke.
Barb and Magpie: That tick ate so much of your blood he just fell off you. Icky.
10:52 am on June 27th, 2011
Pineapple upside down cake sounds good as does the chocolate cake. Us dogs can’t have chocolate, but mom can. sigh
pssst, Stover, You need to bring more than one pie.
T&G have a bear and some idiot is feeding it! That could be a death sentence for the bear.
11:04 am on June 27th, 2011
Nope, No water vapor over the southwest, but maybe even more frightening than that is there is no water vapor over northern Mexico which is where our monsoon begins.
They have set backfires around the Lab at Los Alamos to try to protect it and they are assuring us that all the radioactive materials are safe and secure from wildfire. The government always tells the truth.
11:04 am on June 27th, 2011
Melanie, You are right. We googled ticks and found that one. Instead of a normal size body, it looked like a blimp with a tiny head and tiny little legs. Grosse is right. Not sure if it was full of blood or not.
What should we bring tomorrow? All the food sounds good so far.
11:04 am on June 27th, 2011
Wahooooo!!! The sun is out, the sky is blue, the air is warm and dry. Life is good!!!
The bear was back again this morning. Gilly found a spot on the stairs in the house where she can see out the window into the back yard. She has been on patrol since yesterday, and alerted us this morning that “THAT BEAR IS BACK!” This is done at the top of her voice, in an incredibly long, drawn out bark stream. We have a beagle in the neighborhood that bays a lot, and we think Gilly has been taking lessons. She sure doesn’t sound like a Corgi.
Mama is going out to defy doctors’ warnings and dire predictions. To paraphrase Rebecca’s description of her doggies, Mama wants the sun
Mama needs the sun
Mama loves the sun!
And now she is going to go bake in it for a while before the Crazy Lady staff meeting. Talk to you all tonight.
11:05 am on June 27th, 2011
Siber-H! Uh, what’s this talk of death sentences for bears? Hmm..hitting a little too close to home here.
Tupper&Gilly: No kidding though. That unwelcome visitor sounds VERY scary. He is hungry and that person feeding him is a STUPID IDIOT; and, worse of all, causing more problems for everyone concerned – both 4 leggeds and two.
11:06 am on June 27th, 2011
Dan is beginning to pack! And he called his doc’s office and changed his doctor’s appointment from the morning of which (snicker) they were to leave, to Tuesday!
Dan and my sister will have an early start to those visits in with his friends!
11:07 am on June 27th, 2011
“Carriage trade paperback edition”? Pondering. I once belonged to a book club called Quality Paperback B C.
I’ve been gardening. I’ll bring at least six pies.
Good morning all.
11:10 am on June 27th, 2011
Siber – H: Do NOT read “Area 51: An Uncensored History”.
THE WASHING MACHINE GETS FIXED TOMORROW!
Feeding bears. Jeez. Did I ever tell you guys about the really smart grizzlies in Yellowstone?
11:11 am on June 27th, 2011
Quick note – yes, it is an idiot feeding the bears. And unfortunatley we have more than one. So many people around here are “newbies” to rural living and think its “cute” that the bears are around. MAny reports of bears in neighborhoods in the area because of someone feeding them. So many that our town is planning to enact a “Don’t Feed the Bears”law with heavy financial penalties.
Thank dog, no one, bear or human, has been hurt yet, but it would only be time til someone does if they don;t knock off the foolishness!
11:13 am on June 27th, 2011
Mama says that everyone caught feeding the bears should be forced to watch the movie “Grizzly Man”.
11:14 am on June 27th, 2011
Melanie: Do you know when the asteroid will be coming close to Earth? (for a minute there we thought you were talking about the return of Astrid.
Good Morning, B
11:15 am on June 27th, 2011
I keep forgetting to tell Dan and Melanie’s sister to have an excellent vacation.
11:19 am on June 27th, 2011
Isn’t there a theory that it was an astroid hitting earth that wiped out the dinosaurs?
11:20 am on June 27th, 2011
B: The Quality Paperback Club puts out books that are kind of a knock-off of the real thing. We don’t belong to it any longer.
11:23 am on June 27th, 2011
I am thinking that the party should start at 8 eastern, so that is 7 central, 6 mountain, 5 pacific and 4/3 alaska.
I will also bring a couple of cases of hebrew nationals for the grill.
Of course Audrey knows. She is the one who leaked Spence’s birthday to the kats. She has the concrete barriers all ready. She put them on the other side of the house from the writing room window so no one will see them till we arrive. Heh.
Oh and I am supposed to tell Melanie, no canes! We don’t want any problems with professors this time.
11:25 am on June 27th, 2011
Thanks, Melanie…I will totally, without question, take your word on not reading that book.
T&G, I hope your town can get the “Do Not Feed the Bears” law passed quickly. We have one here…not that this state enforces much of anything.
“Grizzly Man” is a very interesting movie.
11:26 am on June 27th, 2011
Good morning, y’all!
Staff: The cane shouldn’t be a problem as long as nobody invited Mike Baker. Nobody did, did they?
11:31 am on June 27th, 2011
Stover, Yes, The astroid still seems to be the number one theory as to why the Dinosaurs went extinct. They even think they know where the astroid struck earth…off the east coast of Mexico.
11:31 am on June 27th, 2011
On second thought, the blog has been running pretty smoothly lately. Maybe we should invite him just so we can stay on his good side. Leave the cane at home, Melanie!
11:32 am on June 27th, 2011
Well, Kirby. I’m thinking that Staff is correct because the Astrid case has not been solved yet.
11:35 am on June 27th, 2011
Bee: Are you saying you would use the can to beat the ending out of Spencer? Because Mike Baker doesn’t have anything to do with that…I think.
Pondering here.
11:36 am on June 27th, 2011
Oops! Beat with a cane, not a can…although that would work, too.
11:36 am on June 27th, 2011
Well, thank dog I don’t need the cane any longer!
Siber-H, I just don’t want to burst your illusion balloon!
Staff: do you think that one case will be enough? I mean the whole Pack is going!
B.Stover: yes, that is one of the theories. I think the other one was smoking cigarettes.
Bear: Some time tonight. The closest it’s going to get is around 8,000 km.
11:40 am on June 27th, 2011
Siber-H: We have avoided watching Grizzly Man due to content. Not sure we could make it through some of those scenes. A sad thing for the bears to turn on one who loved them so much. Kinda like that Tiger in Vegas. We’ll never know what those 4 leggeds were thinking at the time and can only speculate as to their reason for the attack.
B: That is one theory of the demise of the dinosaurs.
Melanie; I know Dan must be so excited about his vacation! When is he leaving again. Happy Trails Dan!
11:41 am on June 27th, 2011
He’s leaving Thursday. Now very early in the morning. Of course, my sister’s idea of early and my father’s idea of early are different!
11:46 am on June 27th, 2011
Hey, y’all! Mom’s leaving for work so she says I’ve gotta get off the computer now. See you tonight!!!
11:47 am on June 27th, 2011
Have a happy vacation, Dan. And Melanie, get lots of naps and pool time playing with the Pack.
Going out to mow.
11:48 am on June 27th, 2011
Okay. This is another story I am unfamiliar with, being a newbie and all. The story of Melanie and the Cane.
11:51 am on June 27th, 2011
I’ve got it somewhere BSD. I’ll look for it after lunch and send it through the SDD.
It was one of Commander Riö’s missions!
12:09 pm on June 27th, 2011
Thanks Melanie!
Kirby: That was funny – beating the story out of him with the cane!
Drats! If this cloudiness continues we won’t be able to see the asteroid tonight.
12:24 pm on June 27th, 2011
Bears! When I first moved here, I was shocked to discover that the place to see some bears was the town dump. Slowly but surely the bears found their way into town and residents didn’t think it was so cute anymore. At one time I had a bear trap in my yard, which was adjacent to a green belt ( a block wide strip of trees about a mile long). They never caught a bear in that trap but an officer did manage to shoot, and wound, a mama bear, who then ran off into the trees and they lost her. On the other side of the green belt was an elementary school! A conservation officer was called in and after a day and a half they managed to kill the bear. Her cub escaped. A few years later there was a slaughter at the dump. 30 + bears were killed. The dump was relocated and fenced. The town still has problems with bears every year, mainly in the Fall when they are trying to get fat before hibernating.
12:52 pm on June 27th, 2011
Dawson, Why can’t they relocate the bears to a more remote area instead of killing them? That seems so inhumane.
Staff, I guess I did realize that Audrey knew about the party. Sorry if that was a dumb question.
1:09 pm on June 27th, 2011
Barb and Maggie:
It is inhumane. The simple answer is money. Bullets are way cheaper than relocation. And these are problem bears. The bears did not create the problem the town did.
1:25 pm on June 27th, 2011
Dawson and Barb: It hurts my heart to hear about the bears. The mama bear with the cub being killed, the 30(!) bears at the town dump. I know they are dangerous, but there must be another way. Seems we are in need of a Bear Whisperer.
1:30 pm on June 27th, 2011
I know. I shouldn’t have mentioned the bears but whenever I hear of someone feeding bears it brings the whole affair back. Don’t feed the bears!
Let’s change the subject: Melanie – there is a place for missions on the dishlicker site. It is empty.
1:32 pm on June 27th, 2011
I asked permission to tell this story to you guys.
Sullivan is a Mac and Patsy puppy. He is very smart.
He knows how to open cabinets and the refrigerator.
He learned where the chicken was defrosting. Got it out and ate it.
He watched where the peanut butter and English Muffins were kept and ate them.
He completely sugar glazed himself one day.
He is also very empathetic.
His friend noticed that each time before one of the other dogs got sick, Sullivan would chew himself. Really chew himself. Then when the dog went to the vets, or in one case, went to the Rainbow Bridge, Sullivan would grieve.
His friend noticed Sullivan chewing himself and thought that one of the dogs she was watching, very old, was getting ill.
It wasn’t the dog, it was Sullivan’s friend.
She had a tumor on her neck. She went in to Boston to be operated on. A dangerous operation and it was not known how things would go.
Her husband and daughter with her, Sullivan and the other two dogs in the family went to a friend’s. Sullivan was doing well until the day of the operation.
She was to have been operated on at 1:30 pm the operation was to last hours. The family friend was waiting for word.
At 3:30 pm Sullivan went to the basement, put his face to the wall and lay down. He won’t eat, didn’t sleep for 5 hours. The family friend was about to pull him out and take him to the vet, when he got up, wagged his tail and ate his dinner.
His friend’s operation was delayed until 3:30 and lasted for 5 hours.
Wow. What a Wonderful Dog!
The whole family is now back together.
Tearing up here!
1:56 pm on June 27th, 2011
Dear Melanie:
Sullivan’s Story gave us goose bumps. A truly extraordinary dog!!!
1:57 pm on June 27th, 2011
That story makes us feel much better after the bear story. Having never lived where bears could cause a problem, it’s hard to imagin the need to kill bears that are just hungry. We know there are rogue animals that have to be put down, but just hungry? Mom feeds critters all the time. Now she is feeding deer and also has started putting water out . It is so dry! This past weekend we saw the deer drinking out of the small pool she filled!
2:01 pm on June 27th, 2011
Wow!
Way to make me cry happy, Melanie.
2:04 pm on June 27th, 2011
BearSpiritDog: I have the Mission from March 24th 2010, not the caning one.
Highlights for those that remember, the Newfs had rolled in dead fish, I was driving the van. Wookie takes Lexi in a doll cradle, and Admin wanted to keep her.
Pandemonium reigned.
Now if you want that one I can email it to you. It’s very funny.
2:06 pm on June 27th, 2011
I take that back. I just found it. Sending it your way!
2:39 pm on June 27th, 2011
That is a beautiful story, Melanie. It is extra special because it is Mac and Patsy’s puppy. Sullivan is a cool name for the guy.
Bear, it is a very funny mission report that Melanie is sending you.
2:55 pm on June 27th, 2011
For lunch I have been “dining” on caramel and white almond bark popcorn, gingersnaps, rhubarb crunch, pecan drop cookies, biscotti, and white chocolate mousse in dark chocolate cases. I have 24 more dessert and baked goods recipes to go……
3:05 pm on June 27th, 2011
B! At this rate you are going to make yourself “sick” (lol)
Melanie & Siber-H: I am going now to read it.
3:13 pm on June 27th, 2011
Missions!…Melanie, just put it in the Mission’s Folder on the Dishlicker email account (ps: you will have to mail it to dishlickers first) …grunt!….Where have I been all day?…sniff!.. I don’t know. So don’t ask…heh!
3:25 pm on June 27th, 2011
Melanie: Can you put both mission reports in Dishlickers? I have only the one about the cane….LOL!! Just reread it.
I wonder how Sullivan knew.
3:38 pm on June 27th, 2011
I will put those on the dishlicker’s email later tonight. Right now I’m at the upstairs computer and the stuff is on the downstairs computer.
Desserts, desserts, desserts . . . I can just feel the weight gain.
3:38 pm on June 27th, 2011
OMD! That was a Classic!!! You guys are too much. I am still rolling on the floor laughing!
Now it’s time for lunch (if I can get this silly grin off my face)
3:46 pm on June 27th, 2011
As B.Stover makes herself “sick” with all the desserts, Melanie is “putting on the pounds”
3:48 pm on June 27th, 2011
Rio!
Have you been hiding from me?
3:57 pm on June 27th, 2011
Ah, The Plunderers!
They Make You Laugh
They Make You Cry
They Plunder On
3:58 pm on June 27th, 2011
This is a test
3:59 pm on June 27th, 2011
Hey Alice. You going to the party? Wonder if there will be a big tent again. We had a blast at the Supper Bowl party bombing everyone on the ground with the wrappers from the salmon balls!
4:10 pm on June 27th, 2011
Rose: Yes, wondering there for a minute what had happened to your avatar!
Basil & Sage: I knew there was a reason for this mornings reminder to bring the salmon bonbons…
4:14 pm on June 27th, 2011
Bee, Do you have any favorites of the recipes that Barb sent? We could make one or more of those for the party tomorrow night. Do we know how old SQ/PA is going to be? Was he born in 56? Or was that a certain Plunderer? Can’t remember from his bio.
How about Wookie, is he going to be 9 or 10? Glad the Wookster is finished with his treatment. One of Barb’s good friends just finished Lymphoma treatment and she lost all her hair early on. Glad that doesn’t happen with the 4 legged.
4:16 pm on June 27th, 2011
Somebody!…Tell Rose I am gone…heh!…I don’t know where I will be or where I was…snort!
4:31 pm on June 27th, 2011
Missions!
I’d like to read those missions again. Rio should write a book.
Waaaaaah. I have a schedule conflict with the party and won’t be able to attend.
The Canadian Post Office will be open again tomorrow. They have been legislated back to work.
4:36 pm on June 27th, 2011
Los Alamos is now under a mandatory evacuation order. They are telling people to get out and only take your medications and your pets. The pets will be fine. NM has a lot of experience taking care of pets that have to be evacuated.
4:37 pm on June 27th, 2011
Dawson:
No! This can’t be! It won’t be the same without you. Boo Hoo
SnowBella! Check your SDD.
4:40 pm on June 27th, 2011
Los Alamos! Siber-H, that is not good news. We certainly don’t want a situation here like the one in Japan.
4:46 pm on June 27th, 2011
Cubs!…I can’t believe the Rockies are losing to the Cubbies…snort!…Damned Bears!
5:04 pm on June 27th, 2011
The situation around Los Alamos is very scary, although they do have experience dealing with this, as there was a major fire back in 2000 called the Cerro Grande Fire, which started as a controlled burn that got out of control very quickly and threatened not only Los Alamos but the nearby town of White Rock. There is also a really neat National Monument adjacent to Los Alamos called Bandolier which has some incredible Indian ruins and hiking trails. You can still see a lot of the remnants of the Cerro Grande Fire on the road into Bandolier even today.
Barb and Maggie — thanks for asking, I will be 10 years young on the 30th. My last chemo was a week ago today, although I will still get my acupuncture every couple of weeks or so. It’s a good think I didn’t lose all my fur because I think I would look pretty funny bald, although I have probably shed a bit more this year than in the past, which may be because of the chemo. If Bernie is still looking for a good investment, vacuum cleaner bag futures may be even better than tin futures. Wookie
5:17 pm on June 27th, 2011
Wookie,
Have you Mom and Dad give you vitamins. After my surgery lost a lot of hair and it stopped after I started taking vitamins with the B Vitamin Biotin in it. Now it is starting to grow in curly. (For the first time in 62 years) The lady who cuts my hair tells me this every time I come in for a haircut. It gets over more of my head each time. It is not really curly, but has a sort of a wave.
We think it might be the transplant med’s.
I met a helper dog who could tell when his owner was going to have a medical problem. This was about 2 months after my transplant. She allowed him to ‘break’ for some pets and he came right up to me and sniffed my incision. That was the only place he sniffed and he ignored the lady next to me who wanted to pet him also.
Dogs are amazing.
5:18 pm on June 27th, 2011
Barb: The Rhubarb Crunch would be delish if you want to bring several to the party!
5:42 pm on June 27th, 2011
Sure, Rio, Blame it on the Bears.
5:44 pm on June 27th, 2011
Ahh, finally back in Ellicottville. We see there’s a Pet Parade this Saturday.
TYB, are you marching in the parade?
5:45 pm on June 27th, 2011
Bee, We will bring some rhubard crunch for sure. Everyone seems to like it, even those who are not big on rhubarb. We will bring a big bowl of the Creamy Dill Potato Salad, too. That goes nicely with a cookout menue. Incidently, Barb forgot to put in her recipe that she tops the pototo salad with sliced hard boiled eggs. Is it too late to add that?
5:51 pm on June 27th, 2011
Alice? ummm Could you please fly in and pick me up for the party?
6:16 pm on June 27th, 2011
Barb: The Creamy Dilled Potato Salad calls for 6 hard boiled eggs which are put in the dish. Do you want to add that enough slices should be saved to cover the top of the dish or do you want me to increase the number of eggs used? It isn’t too late to add or change the recipe.
6:30 pm on June 27th, 2011
Yum! It is looking like a Feast!
Now I’m hungry again…
6:51 pm on June 27th, 2011
Wöökie, OTAS has the same birthday as you! That’s pretty cool. Knew there was a good reason for him to be born on that day.
You see even though you are ten in furry years you are around 70. This means you are older than OTAS even though he’s going to be 32. So you were born first, in a way, and that’s why I picked that day!
Hmmm. . . makes just as much sense as time zones and Liz being a day ahead of us.
7:22 pm on June 27th, 2011
Bee, I was thinking that I had totally left out the eggs. It should be fine the way it is. If someone is a cook, they would probably think to add some slices to the top anyway. Thanks for checking.
7:25 pm on June 27th, 2011
Tonight I am baking a piece of salmon, and having from the garden: swiss chard, beets, and a couple of new potatoes with shallots. Good and healthy! May have to have some ice cream later to balance out the healthy.
8:10 pm on June 27th, 2011
Barb&Magpie: Sounds like my kind of meal!
8:17 pm on June 27th, 2011
Welcome back Mollypop.
8:30 pm on June 27th, 2011
We have been talking food today! I think it’s made all of us hungry.
Hi MollyPop!
8:47 pm on June 27th, 2011
Off to bed all!
I hope Spencer gets to bed early today. He’s the Birthday Boy tomorrow!
8:48 pm on June 27th, 2011
Whoops, it needed a comma. I wasn’t telling you all what to do! Snicker
“Off to bed, all!”
9:06 pm on June 27th, 2011
Party!….I can’t go I’m stuck here with her and her mother…grunt!… So you guys will have to fill me in on what’s happening tomorrow…snort!… Alice can drop some left-overs out of the plane for me when she goes over my new house…heh!…She has to come this way to drop off SiberH….sniff!… Maybe she can drop a load of water on the fires too!…snuffle!sneeze!
9:09 pm on June 27th, 2011
Hell-Day!…..At the busy-place for my friend…heh!…So she’s kinda grumpy again tonight. The only thing keeping her slogging along is the thought of 9 straight days off after this friday and the Auction starting this Saturday….chorkel! ….She said she would help me if I get in a bind…sniff!

Dang, I missed Melanie. I wanted to tell her the parcel arrived!! It’s so great to see proper large pics of some of you guys! I must say there are more cat pictures than I thought possible… AND there was a copy of For the Love of Puppies, signed by the author himself – how cool! Thank you for that.
‘Whitey at the finish’ is one of the cutest photos in the world.

I had a fun week. First I was back at Sam’s house while Mom went to the Buffalo Harbor to run a sailboat race – she’s on the Race Committee (RC). She came home all bummed out because there was no wind. The RC and 85 sailboats go out in the lake. No wind. The RC puts up the postpone flag. They all bob around in the water for an hour waiting for wind that didn’t come and then the RC cancels the race. This is such a strange year for weather. This was race #5 and only 1 race has actually taken place. Three were canceled for no wind and 1 for too much wind – gusts of 42 mph.

Hey, y’all! I’m back!
Dawson: I’m so sorry to hear that you won’t be coming to the party tomorrow night. I know they’ve settled the postal strike so Mom’s new lens will be getting here eventually, but I thought we could just bypass all that silliness if you could bring it with you. Sigh…I guess she’ll just have to wait. 🙁

Barb, The fire situation isn’t good. They have no idea what is going to happen because the wind and the weather is so erratic. The fire is already bigger than the Cerro Grande fire that Wookie mentioned earlier. This fire may have been sparked by one downed power line.
Mom got an email from an animal rescue coordinator (mass emailing) and the pet rescue is going well and is all under control. We will donate dog food or something like we did during the Cerro Grande fire.

We are signing off as well. Excited about the party tomorrow. See you in the a.m.

My best friend, Molly the Husky, is in the doggie hospital. She needs your good thoughts and prayers sent her way, please. The vets are trying to figure out what is wrong with her. They know that she is spiking a fever of over 104, but they don’t know why. She is comfortable and not in pain.
Mom and I are upset.

SiberH!… Will you guys be taking in any other guys to watch over if too many homes are evacuated?….snort!… I don’t know how all this evacuation business works actually, what do guys like us do if we can not be with our friends…sob!…Can’t even think about that actually…choke!snort!

Thank you, Rio.
The email said that no foster homes were needed right now, but they could be in the future. The shelters are taking in pets that couldn’t go with their people, and there are shelters set up for horses and cattle. If there is a silver lining to all this…it’s that this is not a poverty stricken area like, say, New Orleans was during hurricane Katrina. If the people don’t have friends and family to stay with, most of them could afford a motel that will take pets. Motels will even lift their “no pets allowed” restrictions. They have in the past.
Yes, if it becomes necessary, we would take in a dog or two, but I don’t think it will come to that.

Ok Rio – here I am. Sorry little brother, been kind of busy around here. But I am trying to finish up my projects so’s I can get to the party tomorrow night. Got some ‘shine all packed up to go.
Miz Macy – will you be at the party? Make sure you save some room on your dance card for ole’Redbone.
Siber – gonna be saying some prayers for your friend, and for you and your family up there in those fires.

Shine!….Is that what I think it is?? …snort!….And I am gonna miss out on it….sob!sob!sob!…Damn this ole Don’t Leave the Yard rule!…grump!
11:00 pm on June 27th, 2011
To add to what I said, if a pet has to go into a shelter, these are pets that have homes and will be reclaimed as soon as the people are allowed back into their homes.
The ending to our day went like this…I live on a very QUIET street, but this evening an SUV screached onto my street and ended up in a neighbors front yard. The driver bailed out and ran, and here come the cops. The cops caught him, the stolen SUV was taken away by a tow truck, and all is well now.
Mom and I are tired and turning in.
Good Night Everyone

Rio – shine…well now, lets just say that it is a drink best enjoyed in MOONlight. What do you mean, no leaving the yard? What about that camping trip we were planning with Siber? come on little brother, git your dancing shoes on – its Spence’s birthday! That only happens, what, maybe once a year?
11:25 pm on June 27th, 2011
Sent this one out earlier, only to get it modified when I mentioned those horribly obscene things you wear on your feet. Dad-blang moderator must have some kind of serious issue. So, I rewrote it with a different word. LEts see what happens.

WhooHooo I am printing this on my new computer. It is all shiny and nice, but I am sure that will change soon.
I still have a lot of settings to set but the printer is set up and the wireless mouse is working.
And yes Mr. Husky I can pick you up. And Rio, if you want why don’t you have wolfie blur you in for a short while. You don’t want to miss the ‘shine’ now do you?
See y’all tomorrow.
