I wonder how many suggested titles were submitted.
Good morning all.
9:06 am on November 23rd, 2013
Good morning, everyone! We wonder, too B. Maybe OFA will mention that along with the title on Monnday.
Have a scrumptiously super Saturday.
9:14 am on November 23rd, 2013
Good morning! The ‘rents had good fresh Fern eggs for breakfast!!! Delish,. They are sure that Kathryn’s humongous egg is a double yoke. Poor girl.
We hope this winning title is really really good.
9:45 am on November 23rd, 2013
Guess which one is Kathryn’s.

9:51 am on November 23rd, 2013
I know it’s over (I’m slow). But I had two. Corgi Park a play on Gorky Park and The Hound of Bakersville. For what it’s worth. Love these books.

Hi, B. The # was somewhere between 400-500, I believe. – Admin
10:12 am on November 23rd, 2013
Greetings,
OH’s: Your chickies did a very good job. It must be nice to eat a fres from the chicken egg.
AWWWWW, Beau!
RIO! And yes, there is video of you! I wish there were more.
I will be lurking today.
10:16 am on November 23rd, 2013
Thank you Admin. All I can say is…Wow!
10:20 am on November 23rd, 2013
I wonder if Admin and Spence will print the top 10 choices for us….Please!!
Oley’s, We are jealous of your fresh eggs.
Cold here today, down in the 20s. Burrr.
10:24 am on November 23rd, 2013
Are you sure Kathryn is not an ostrich?
10:38 am on November 23rd, 2013
Eggnormous!…snort!
10:38 am on November 23rd, 2013
Titles!….I alone submitted about 7, if I remember right…grunt!
10:44 am on November 23rd, 2013
Melanie!…I sent you something on your Gmail SDD…snort!snort!
10:53 am on November 23rd, 2013
OH…awww-stretch!
Rio: That many? You sure are creative.
Will be a long wait till the name release on Monday.
10:57 am on November 23rd, 2013
I sent in 3. All poor to my mind, but I had to send in something.
Wow that egg! Are you going to eat it or did you already. It could be a two egg omelet all by itself.
10:58 am on November 23rd, 2013
We have to wait until Monday? Oh you tease!
Deda Chase: Welcome. I like Corgi Park.
O’Howlers: Beautiful eggs. Eggspecially the eggnormous one.
Lately I’ve been buying the huge “doubles” at the store. A certain number of double yolks are guaranteed. That way, if anyone asks, I only had one egg for breakfast.
This waking up with a toothache and a headache is getting old. Breakfast (one egg and toast) and painkillers on the menu.
Hope MacyMinPin’s Mom stops itching soon.

Hope this works. A friend of mine posted this on Facebook for me. It’s a flashmob musical of the final few minutes of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
11:02 am on November 23rd, 2013
Admin – yes, please, the top 10 or 15 or 20 titles? And maybe some of those who submitted titles would like to support Snowhook?
Nice, Bee. Very nice.
Good weekend, Everybody.
11:05 am on November 23rd, 2013
Hello Deda – we think your submission of “Corgi Park” was brilliant, inspired and a superb choice. Of course we may be slightly biased.
tee hee
Mama sent in 5 or 6, but she still thinks Melanie sent in the winner. Time will tell.
More cooking and cleaning today for the big feast tomorrow. See ya.
11:13 am on November 23rd, 2013
Bee – that truly was the Best Coin Spent today.
(why does that particular piece, well played, always make Mama’s eyes leak?)
11:18 am on November 23rd, 2013
Thanks BStover: What a brilliant piece of work by Beethoven.
12:12 pm on November 23rd, 2013

Magnificent egg (and eggs)

Last night’s delightful sunset has turned into my kind of day. Morning sun over the Olympics, Mt. Rainier standing majestically in the foreground. Temps predicted to reach 50 degrees. A truly heavenly morning as BSD would say. My forecast is for a lovely day. Weatherkat
Howlers: Those eggs are works of art…and yum!
Dawson: Find a new dentist! You don’t even like him. Or, are you limited in choices?
Melanie: Hope you win the contest.
Everyone: Have a great day.

Masquers, Tell Nana to read Comfort and Joy – it takes place in part in Washington’s Olympic rainforest. She mentions Mt. Rainier too. Barb really enjoyed the book, the first one she has read my Kristin Hannah.
1:12 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Is BearSpiritDog around? I feel a nap coming on.
I don’t bounce back now. It’s more a long slog through thick mud.
Riö, please check SSD.
1:40 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Melanie: Have had breakfast…now joining you for nap-time…the Pause that Refreshes.
Barb&Magpie: Masquers is off enjoying the weekend. Nana has requested Comfort & Joy from the library. She said just the name sounds like something she would like to read.
B: Love Ode to Joy. One of our favorites.
Hello to Deda. I know Tupper&Gilly are honored by your brilliant choice…Corgi Park.
Hi Wose, BlueCat & Sammy.
Now…Nap-Time awaits.
1:40 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Well, this is interesting . .

1:42 pm on November 23rd, 2013
and, of course, Hi to our Pal Rio.
Looking forward to seeing the Top Title Choices on Monday. Yours are surly on the list.
1:48 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I sent in some pics to Melanie for the auction. Now I need to do some personal stuff but my question is. Do all the pics have to be in today? This travel stuff has played with my brain.
I wonder if it is OK if I send in a pic of an almost finished project? Huh huh.
I am going to shower and put on real clothes and then come back and see the reply. Yikes.
1:59 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Again…my avatar…What the Hey?
2:00 pm on November 23rd, 2013

Staff, please check SDD.
2:06 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I do hope we get to see some of the book titles that are runners up. It would be hard to choose from that many. I hope the winner is one of you guys. It won’t be me.
Snow…I am still waiting. We had a light dusting of something last night. Mom says it was snow but I think it was flour.
Beau, We watched your video. You are now a star in siberspace.
2:11 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Wose, (whispering) There is one than one video of Rio.
This morning we heard a bluegrass song about a chicken laying an egg,
2:13 pm on November 23rd, 2013
ooops, Wose, That should be there is more than one video of Rio.
2:14 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Siber: Flour! Smirk. That’s funny.
As for winning book titles, it won’t be moi either. Mainly because I didn’t know about it and so didn’t send one in (not that it would have had a chance. Heh)
We missed Beau’s video. Time to go back to read last nights posts.
3:33 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I think part of the reason Wose is lurking today is to recover from the R rated video last night. I don’t think I put my paws over her eyes in time.
My Two-legged finally boarded the plane late last night after several delays. She is leaving town and heading home. Yeep!
3:41 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Beau’s video is fun, especially the very end.
Dawson, crawl under the quilt. It does wonders for pain.
We had so much more to say about everyone’s posts, but now we forget.
Barb, Mom is very worried about Fern. She won’t stand up. What is going on?
4:44 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Kathryn’s egg is eggstroadinary (sorry, I couldn’t resist).
From last night for Rio. The Miss Fisher mysteries are set in Australia in the 1920s. The protagonist, Fryne Fisher, is a fairly liberated woman for the times, and has acquired a retinue of associates who help her solve mysteries, working in cooperation with and sometimes in competition with the local police force. The settings are lavish, the acting first rate, the plots interesting, and the interplay among the characters quite sweet. There is a fair amount of subtle humor. It is just out and out enjoyable to watch. Not as much intrigue as Foyle’s War, but the character development is fully equal to that. I think you will really enjoy it a lot.
Teddy has a lot to report on growing up when he gets a chance, but that may not be until tomorrow.
5:31 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Melanie, We are going to request Duck the Halls from the library.
Finished The Snow Globe this afternoon, so will be making a trip tomorrow afternoon.
Got a couple of Christmas gifts ordered today, so making a little dent in the list.
Teddy, Looking forward to your report tomorrow. You are growing up fast buddy!
Tonight for dinner we are having chicken pot pie, made from our leftover roast chicken. Topping it with baking powder biscuits. Pure comfort food!
5:35 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Dawson? Can’t the dentist do anything for your pain? We are concerned.
Macy, The same goes for your mom. I read her post last night and we are worried about her.
Looking forward to hearing from Teddy.
5:41 pm on November 23rd, 2013
SiberH!…I think that dentist is the one who caused her pain…grunt!
5:44 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Teddy’s Paw!….Thanks for the plot description. I will add that to our Netflix list very soon…snort!
Projects!…Someone here has been working on a project all day long…grunt!…We were forced to go on a walk earlier and it is damned cold out…grump!…My little paws got wet…sniff!
5:46 pm on November 23rd, 2013
oooooMelanie!….I did not get anything in my SDD…sniff!…Are you sure you replied to my message? I have a new SDD address you know, or maybe you don’t know?….grunt!
5:56 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Barb must have missed our plea for help. Mom and Pop are now at a vet emergency hospital. Go figure.
6:03 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Howlers!…Barb only reads every other post…snort!…Don’t tell me they have taken Fern the Chicken to a V-E-T??…gurgle!
6:08 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Rio, Okay then…Dawson needs to go to a different dentist. These things always happen on the weekends.
Fern has been taken to the ER…gosh
6:12 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Fern!…I’ve never ever heard of a chicken going to the V-E-T…snort!….This is a first for me…heh!heh!
6:24 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Mom has a friend who won’t google any medical problem because she says they all say brain cancer.
I googled Fern’s problem and it looked serious. I’m glad they took her to the vet.
6:25 pm on November 23rd, 2013
OMD, we did miss that. Maybe she has a prolapsed thingy or an egg stuck in the duct. We found that our country vets knew almost nothing about chickens. Sorry we missed your post!
6:34 pm on November 23rd, 2013
We think she is most likely egg bound, which means an egg may be stuck. Putting her in a warm water bath for up to an hour might help. Can you feel an egg near the end of the vent? Don’t try to break it inside of her.
6:35 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I am having this picture in my brain of Fern in the waiting room of the ER with Sibers and Pitbulls rioting over her.
Saturday nights can be busy in animal ERs.
6:39 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Stuck!…Oh dear. A egg stuck in poor Fern…yeep!….I can’t even imagine…gah!….Is “end of the vent” another name for chicken-butt?…grunt!…I hope the Howlers get a good v-e-t doc….sniff!
6:44 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Barb feels terrible talking about chicken pot pie when Fern is sick! How inappropriate can you be!
6:44 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Oh dear, we were busy for the day, and just look what has happened. Paws crossed for Fern – and for the Howler family.
Dinner tomorrow – starts with roasted butternut squash soup. Then lemon/tarragon turkey, traditional dressing, roasted carrots with parsnips, roasted Brussels sprouts with chestnuts, corn pudding, green beans, mashed potato casserole with cream cheese and sour cream, snowflake rolls, homemade cranberry sauce, sugar free apple pie, pumpkin pie and Caramel Apple ice cream.
Blurring in may commence at 5 pm EST.

My girl is far away at some school thing, but I thought she’d come home now that skiing is starting. Somehow she found a place to ski.

6:45 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I just watched the latest episode of Elementary. Very good. He seemed to be painting rooms of a dollhouse at the end. Does anyone know what that was about?
6:47 pm on November 23rd, 2013
And we are also cooking a trout for a vegetarian friend who is joining us. He is Mohawk Indian, and says that “vegetarian” is the Mohawk word for “really bad hunter”.
tee hee
6:48 pm on November 23rd, 2013
This looks to be a bit too dangerous. My girl called this place The Alps. I want her back home.

6:50 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Slurp!….Golinka, can you post the recipe for mashed potato casserole with cream cheese and sour cream?…snort!
Barb!…I’ve always wondered how you can be so concerned with chickens who are lucky enough to have a name and not think twice about eating unnamed chickens…grunt!
6:52 pm on November 23rd, 2013
ALPS!….Holy Moly!…snort!…Sammie your girl is living the dream too! Just like AJ The Giant….Woooooo!
6:55 pm on November 23rd, 2013
The Alps!! Princess Sam, This is so cool.
6:56 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I know, Rio, she rationalizes it. She only buys chickens that have been humanely raised, and mostly from 2 sources where they are allowed to free range and live a pretty good life compared to the factory raised ones. She could never have eaten her pet chickens, ever!
6:56 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Best thoughts for Fern.
I went out and looked at the sky just before dinner. Nothing.
After dinner? We have an inch of snow.
Riö, I will check the email address.
7:02 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Sammy, Your girl is in the Alps? What an experience for her.
7:05 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Alps would be cool! I could do them if they were flat.
Riö, please check your SDD. See if I figured it out.
7:12 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Rio – just for you:
8 good size russet or all purpose potatoes
4 tbls butter (melted)
1/2 cup cream
4 oz cream cheese
1/2 sour cream
salt and pepper to taste
Peel the potatoes, cut in half or thirds, but leave them in large pieces. Place in pot with enough cold water to cover, and 2 Tbls salt. Bring to a boil, and reduce the heat to a very low simmer. Cook for 30 to 40 minutes, until potatoes are soft enough to mash. Start mashing, add the melted butter and mash more. Then add the cream, cream cheese and sour cream, and salt and pepper to taste. Spray a casserole dish with non stick spray, and dump taters in. At this point you can cover the dish and put it in the fridge for a day until you are ready to cook it.
Cover with foil, place in 350 degree oven for 30 to 45 minutes. Remove foil for the last 10 minutes.
The reason for cooking the taters this way is that they tend to absorb much less water and make for fluffier potatoes. Also, by adding the melted butter first, the cells of the potatoes are coated with the oily butter, and absorb less of the milk, so you can use much less. We love how cooking is half ingredients and half chemistry.
7:15 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Dawson, your dentist sounds like “Little Shop of Horrors” (Feed me Seymor)
OH: HOH like birds more than Chet does, so Fern is in the HOH and POP’s thoughts.
So good to hear from Masquers and BSD today. Looking forward to the Teddy update.
Darah is loving going up and down the stairs but still balks at getting into the Scooteroo. Then she cries and HOWLS when she misses the ride.
Rio, we watched Beau’s video. Cote then our eyelids reached for each other.
Newf Pack….snow! wowser.
7:16 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Not a dream, this is a nightmare! Mommy said my girl went to school, but that doesn’t look like a school. Then Mommy says my girl will be home soon but she might stop for a week in New York at a place called a stock exchange where they trade cows. Get her back home now!
7:18 pm on November 23rd, 2013
We forgot to specify that you should drain the potatoes once they are cooked, but we figured you all knew that part.
7:20 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Sammie – we think you need to figure out how to sneak into your girl’s pocket so she stops going places without you.
You don’t think she will trade you in for a cow at the stock exchange place do you?
7:43 pm on November 23rd, 2013
T & G, Your dinner sounds wonderful. We will be there, so set two more places!
Hope Fern is OK, also hope Macy’s mom is not having any more outbreaks! Wonder what is causing her hives?
7:44 pm on November 23rd, 2013
The only thing Wookie’s Dad didn’t mention was the clothes in “Miss Fisher’s”
They are wonderful!!
8:03 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Golinka!…Got it!…snort!…Someone says she will be trying it one day soon!….slobber!
8:06 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I’m worried about Fern.
8:10 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Melanie!…Got it!…sniff!….I think.
8:14 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Word!…No word on Fern’s outcome yet, ey?…sniff!
8:35 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Poor Fern, we hope she is OK! We are thinking about her.
8:36 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I’m also very worried about Fern. She just started her egg production. Oh dear.
8:37 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Quiet on the blog tonight. Mom is zonkered but only went to store and did 4 loads of laundry. What phase is the moon in?
8:52 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Movie!…Tonight is the perfect night to watch “Chicken Run”…sniff!…I need to add that to my netflickers list…grunt!
9:06 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Rebecca!….I sure hope she gets home safe and sound tonight…sniffle!…She has been on my mind all evening. I also hope some Airborne has been drunk along the way…grunt!
9:10 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Oh no!
I hope we get some good news about Fern soon. I have never prayed for a chicken before, but I am now.
Pies!
The Senior’s Society made in excess of 500 pies today. What a production. I have flour in every pore of my body and my back is sore but the good news is I forgot about my sore tooth.
Dentist!
Do not have choice of dentists up here so I am stuck. Ibuprofen works on this ache (which is actually a gum ache from being cut – on purpose – by the dentist) but as I only take it on a full stomach, by the time I wake up in the morning the pain killer is gone and the ache is up to my temples. The dentist assures me that by next week I will be fine. I also have an antibiotic rinse morning and night.
9:17 pm on November 23rd, 2013
RIO! Grizz and I love CHICKEN RUN!!!
9:18 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Hope that Fern is going to be okay.
9:21 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Fern is home. She is still not standing or moving. She is going to spend the night in the laundry room.
Before they left home, Fern pooped. Good sign. While they were waiting in the ER, they realized that fern would not have had water most of the day because she was not moving. So Pop got our water bowl from the Sibaroo and filled it with water. He took Fern into the rest room. When he lifted her from her traveling box, guess what? There was an egg under her!!!!!! As sick or exhausted as she was, she laid an egg on the car trip! She still couldn’t stand though. The doc said everything seemed o.k. When she checked her out. So she gave her Dextrose and also calcium. Only they didn’t have injectable calcium…only oral.
The doctor told mom that fern is a “heritage breed” and would not normally lay an egg every day like fern has done. Mom says that doc does not know what she is talking about.
We are all pooped and will only know if Fern will make it when we see how she is tomorrow.
9:32 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Howlers, I am sure you guys are pooped. Hope Fern is feeling good by tomorrow. I feel bad for her…never thought I would say that about a chicken.
Dawson, A cut should heal just like the dentist said it would…hurts in the meantime, though.
9:34 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Thank Dawg y’all and Fern are home. Egg bound 🙁 No fun. Still all paws and claws are crossed here for her.
Mom is saying (even though Rio won’t believe it) nighty night.
9:48 pm on November 23rd, 2013
HOH, Do you think she was egg-bound? That is Mom’s theory too.
Siber made Mom and Pop in that waiting room tonight, when he said he was envisioning Sibes and Pitbulls rioting over Fern. Heh heh!
Mom never ever imagined she would spend a Saturday evening in a vet ER with a chicken!
9:49 pm on November 23rd, 2013
LAUGH! We left out the critical word: LAUGH in that Siber sentence.
9:49 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Dawson – oil of clove. It can be applied over and over and will take the pain right out. Or something like “Anbesol” There is no need for you to be in such pain.
Fern – do not be such an overachiever. Feel better, little chickie.
Rio – we never saw “Chicken Run”. We may need to check it out.
9:50 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Chickens!…I’m sorry but my friend grew up on a farm with chickens and nary a one was ever carted off to the V-E-T because she had trouble laying an egg…grunt!…And I’m told if they did not lay eggs their head was soon parted from their body by her ole Grandmother who lived next door and slept with her hatchet…yeep!
9:51 pm on November 23rd, 2013
We still think Fern’s problem was that she was having problems passing her egg. Otherwise, we think it would be unusual for her to lay an egg during a stressful time away from her familiar coop. Were there any blood streaks on the egg? Hope she is better tomorrow.
9:56 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Rio, Grandma was old school, when chickens were not considered pets. Oley’s we said earlier that vets don’t know much about chickens! We stand by that statement.
10:00 pm on November 23rd, 2013
No blood on the egg. And Fern didn’t even let on that she was laying during the trip. Mom says she would not have laid so late. It was dark!
10:00 pm on November 23rd, 2013
HOH, I don’t know if your Mom is affected by fronts moving through, but they sure make me want to hibernate.
Dawson, I hear grabbing the dentist in a tender spot before they start working on you, focuses the dentist. Perhaps an earlobe?
I still need to hear from one person who hasn’t gotten her pictures back. The emails were deleted while I was sick. If you haven’t gotten them back write to me.
WINDY! and snow. Don’t think we’re going to get much though.
TTFN
10:02 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Grandma!…This is a different grandma who departed this world long before I came to be….sniff!…I’m told my friend watched her behead many a chicken. She also made quick work of fish. She chopped, gutted and de-scaled them quicker than a quick ride around the patio on a tricycle….chuffle!…”Old School” you say? Hell this was putting food on the table for her family…grunt!
10:21 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Fern: You may not know this about me, but I make a great pillow.
10:34 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Good night, everyone. Thank you so much for your concern. What new curse comes tomorrow?
10:35 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Chicken!…Heads on pillows?…snort!…Now I have heard almost every thing today…grunt!
10:43 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Barb’s grandma was Old School too. Not an insult Rio, just the way it was.
Glad Fern is feeling better.
10:50 pm on November 23rd, 2013
I’d be proud to be Fern’s pillow. I’ve been looking to expand my portfolio.
10:51 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Gramma Jonsie had “fricasse”, fired, and stewed as her chickens names. We wish to be kinder, genteler carnivores. Rio, to her you would have been a roast! To us, you are a cousin.
10:52 pm on November 23rd, 2013
NOW Rio, nighty night.
10:53 pm on November 23rd, 2013
NOW Rio, nighty night. This was zombie HOH mom speaking.
10:54 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Mr Tenzing!….I am gob-struck!…grunt!
10:56 pm on November 23rd, 2013
HoHo!…She never goes away….grunt!…I just wish she would go away when she says she is going to go away…sniff!
10:57 pm on November 23rd, 2013
Melanie, Mom just got home from a wedding and has resent the auction/boutique pictures to you. Mom and Dad spent all day (before the wedding) putting up more outside Christmas decorations. It is actually cold here and is supposed to stay that way all week. Highs in the 40’s! Holiday weather for sure. We may even get to use the fire pit!
Hope Fern is okay.
11:00 pm on November 23rd, 2013
A gob-struck Pug? Now we have seen everything. On that note, we are going to say g’night all.
11:04 pm on November 23rd, 2013
How do you know if a pug is gob struck? Does his tail unfurl?
11:06 pm on November 23rd, 2013
BooBear!…Forty degrees would have been welcome here! today…grunt!….I am definitely not ready for this cold white weather…grumble!…I wish we would move somewhere warm like New Mexico right next to SiberH…sniff!…I could be in charge of his excavating projects and make sure they are finished on time and under budget…gruffle!

40s sounds like a heat wave. Tonight down to single digits, with wind chill making it seem like 0 or even as bad as -10 degrees. Are they kidding? It’s still November!
Night all and we mean it!

Rebecca if you ever get home check your SDD. heh. Are you topped up with Auction items or do you need more. I can make something else. Not really fast but it could happen.
Fern you take car babe. I think the O’Howlers Mom and Pop shook that egg out of you on the Vet trip. Great job by them. Hope you get some water and feel better in the a.m.
Nighty noodle everyone and Tenzing you are doing a great job too. T. the chicken pillow! heh.

Our neighbor at the farm called us today and said it was -7 real temp in our yard this afternoon. (wind chill even less) His tractor wouldn’t start without being plugged in. Mr.Staff had been annoyed at coming down to the Cities a little early until he heard the temperature.

What fresh new hell is this? I finally took the magnesium citrate for the original problem, so now my time is divided between running to the little room and trying not to rip my skin off. And I missed out on Thanksgiving day one. TD 2 is supposed to be here in a house that hasn’t been touched in nearly two weeks. Turkey with a side of dust bunny dressing anyone?
At least I’m not egg bound. Sorry, Fern.
