Title Contest! Announcement!
The seventh (!) Chet and Bernie mystery (Fall 2014) takes place in Washington, D.C. The Little Detective Agency gets caught up in a lethal conspiracy with international implications that reaches the highest levels of power. A perfect title for this story would have been The Dog Who Came in from the Cold. But it’s already taken! (By Alexander McCall Smith.) Any suggestions out there? Email spencerquinntitles@gmail.com with your creative title ideas in the subject line between 10/30 and 11/13. There’s potentially something in it for you if we pick your idea. Potentially. And what’s more fun to contemplate than potential?
Welcome Little David.

Pondering…. The seventh novel sounds interesting.
Good morning all.
9:02 am on October 30th, 2013
HOH: I’m sorry about Emma P. She was beautiful.
By the way, Alexander McCall Smith took my previous title suggestion…grump….
9:08 am on October 30th, 2013
Greetings!
Good morning, HRH B!
Sharon and HOH, I am so very sorry to hear of Emma’s loss. She will forever be in your heart. Peace to you all.
9:16 am on October 30th, 2013
We were off the blog last night when Sharon posted about the passing of Emma. We are sorry for your loss. Nine years is not very long, but she spent them in a Pack filled with love.
We are not going to rack our brains trying to come up with a clever title. That type of creativity is out of Barb’s comfort zone, plus last time we all came up with a ton of good names for naught!
9:20 am on October 30th, 2013
HOH, I’m so sorry to hear about your dear Emma P.
9:29 am on October 30th, 2013
I’ve sent in a title suggestion. Heh!
9:47 am on October 30th, 2013
Morning.
HOH, If you are on, there are a ton of messages to you in last night’s blog.
sniff
10:00 am on October 30th, 2013
Everyone: HOH is here and overwhelmed by your outpouring of concern. Thank ya’ll. Especially dainty licks (Macy and Lucy Lou here). Pillows, Slim Jims, a newf pack, Rio, Dawson, Swedish fish and especially the quilt. Know there are names we forgot to mention…sorry. Mom is not quite ready to function yet, but will come home soon.
Oh, her thoughts on a calendar…good idea for 2015. Too close to year end now and think immediate Snowhook fund faisers should that priority. A local shelter here that specializes in Pit Bulls and Feral cats has a cut off date for submissions in mid-July. Calendars become available in November. Seems like a good timeline…just a thought. Going back under the quilt for a bit.
10:01 am on October 30th, 2013
P.S. Mom has had saline and canine facial…repeatedly and the keyboard is damp.
10:08 am on October 30th, 2013
RIO! Please check your SDD when able.
10:18 am on October 30th, 2013
Dawson, Please check your SDD when able.
10:19 am on October 30th, 2013
Herd of Hounds, please have Mom read her SDD.
I was working on a title or two when out of the BLUE . . I have an appointment at the Lahey Clinic!
Next Thursday. I have mentioned my liver doc is wonderful?
Today is getting the paperwork to the correct people. (rolling eyes here)
Oh, The Royals are letting me borrow their chauffeur.
10:22 am on October 30th, 2013
Melanie:TY, actually saw it come in this a.m. but crawled back to bed.
10:33 am on October 30th, 2013
Oh dear – Mama is sitting in the corner thinking of (truly awful) puns for titles of the next book. Have we mentioned that her puns are terrible? Atrocious. Wince-making.
Besides which, OFA has a very different sense of humor. (Still smarting a little over “Sound and Furry”)
On a different note – Mama got some lovely leeks at the farm stand. Any suggestions on something wonderful to do with them?
10:44 am on October 30th, 2013
Oh – we forgot to say – we need a recipe that doesn’t include potatoes.
10:45 am on October 30th, 2013
Melanie, Yipee! I am glad to hear that you have a wonderful liver doctor, and that you have an appointment at the Lahey Clinic. That is a well respected institution. And a chauffeur! Will you be in a silver Rolls Royce?
11:03 am on October 30th, 2013
Rose, I will be in the Corgimobile. I should wear corgi colors instead of my Newf black. thinking of stray fur . .
I have sent in some titles! Then I actually read the entire post . . and sent them in again in the subject line.

11:11 am on October 30th, 2013
Thanks Melanie – we will be having braised leeks on quinoa cakes for dinner. Can’t wait!
11:18 am on October 30th, 2013
Why no potatoes? Most of the soup recipes have potatoes too.
We did see one soup recipe that had spinach, leeks and white beans, which looked really good.
We had a really good leek au Gratin dish once made with gruyere cheese.
Barb is getting hungry! Going to make a bar-b-que pork sandwich from leftover baby back ribs from last night’s dinner. Dinner also included a Greek salad and basmati rice with sauted onions and green pepper from the garden.
11:29 am on October 30th, 2013
Surely we are not the only pack who has an extended stay at Barb and Maggie’s on our bucket list?
11:37 am on October 30th, 2013
T&G: My Lady says you must be moosetaken about the quality of your mama’s puns.
11:39 am on October 30th, 2013
Oleys, Youse guys -and gals- are welcome here anytime.
11:48 am on October 30th, 2013
Maggie, ask Barb if our mom can come too, and if Barb could pleae give her cooking lessons…
11:58 am on October 30th, 2013
Ahh, shucks….
12:15 pm on October 30th, 2013
Heh, I am getting hungry too. When I went to look at the leek recipes I found myself clicking on a link about how to make peanut butter cups. Sounds easy and delish!
I better go have lunch.
12:44 pm on October 30th, 2013
Tenzing – Mama apologizes for her dreadful puns, but she sheepishly says that it is in her blood, and if you moose, you moose.
She deerly loves the twists and turns of language, and wolfs down works by the masters of the art. Granted some of it is bull, with weasley authors trying to ram poor puns through by monkeying around with sentence structure. Those she simply cannot bear and tries to duck exposure since they really get her goat. So, meanwhile, she just horses around with puns, and tries not to make an asp of herself.
And by the way, we love ewe too.
12:56 pm on October 30th, 2013
Ahem……
Show of paws and hands. How many of you would be interested in a Plunderer calendar, which would feature the best looking bunch of 4-leggeds I have ever seen, with not just important dates on it, but including important Plunderer dates. All funds would go to our friends at SNOWHOOK. Chet, you get a vote in this too.
1:03 pm on October 30th, 2013
HOHI still says no. Do a 2015 calendar when we have time to think/plan better.
1:05 pm on October 30th, 2013
OK, OK OK. Mom lover the idea, just thinks it is jumping too soon into it! Think, Plan.
1:15 pm on October 30th, 2013
HOH: The plan is for a 2015 calendar. Just testing the waters.
1:20 pm on October 30th, 2013
And while I am in a chatty mood….
Let’s not forget the Sponsor a Dog fundraiser! Remember if you partner up with someone, you won’t have to spend all of your treatie money!
BooBear: I am so excited to partner with you!
1:21 pm on October 30th, 2013
WOSE – by 2015, we will be ready for our close up

1:22 pm on October 30th, 2013
Rose: I will buy a calendar whenever it is produced.
1:27 pm on October 30th, 2013
Rose: I would love a calendar with Plunderer Kats and Dogs on it. I’m in for 2015.
1:34 pm on October 30th, 2013
We were hoping for a Plunderer calendar for 2014 ! But we’ll settle for 2015 if that is what you all decide. 🙁
We are worried about the same thing Rio is though (i.e. Who decides who is featured in the calendar?). We can’t even do one pack per page since there are more than 12 of us with our own dog or pack.
1:40 pm on October 30th, 2013
My mind is blank when it comes to titles.
T&G: You were right. Those puns are truly awful! (So are Snowbella’s) Awful funny. The chauffeuring, on the other paw, is the best.
Melanie: Your liver doctor is great. Hope the paperwork gets where it is supposed to be without too much hassle.
I am agog! The sun has come out again, the snow is almost gone and, while not tee-shirt weather, a light fall jacket is all that is needed to be comfortable outdoors.
1:41 pm on October 30th, 2013
Wrotten Kats and Royal Corgis: Awwwwwww!
I will buy one now and into perpetuity!! (Wow, that is a big word for me!)
O’Howlers: Those who do not make the 2015 calendar will be featured in the 2016 calendar. Rio doesn’t have to worry about who decides…he doesn’t want his picture in the calendar anyway. My partner in this decided that I should pick the pictures.
BTW, Have you heard any more Nana news?
1:43 pm on October 30th, 2013
Like the idea of a 2015 calendar. I do one for our family and if life ever slows down and I remember the website, I will send it on to Rose.
OMD, I’ll be listening to puns for hours next Thursday.
I just finished two hours of trying to get a release form to one doctor. That doc doesn’t seem to like to let go of information. Finally did it, and the records person said, “You realize there is a twelve day turn around, don’t you?”
What did I do? Got on the phone to Lahey explained the release form was at medical records and they were going to sit on it. The Lahey people are handling it tomorrow. Jeese Louise. I was sitting in our deserted town hall doing the FAX, using my cell for phone calls. (Rolling of eyes)
How do people worse off than I am advocate for themselves?
On the other paw, my bank now has a full service ATM here in town! Hurrah!
I don’t have to drive 30 minutes to the bank tomorrow!
1:46 pm on October 30th, 2013
The site that does our calendars has different options. You can have one big picture or more smaller ones at the top, and you can put smaller pictures at the bottom. Just too tired to figure it out right now.
2:04 pm on October 30th, 2013
Melanie, No worries about the calendar. Take care of yourself, that is what is important. YOU,YOU, YOU!
2:05 pm on October 30th, 2013
Forgot….Staff, when you have a moment, please check your SDD.
2:13 pm on October 30th, 2013
If we decide to do a calendar, one site we are familiar with is http://www.shutterfly.com/calendars
We use them for our Christmas cards. They have a very easy to navigate site. You can have one or many photos per page, and I believe you can also have whatever events you want on each page. Just an idea.
2:21 pm on October 30th, 2013
Melanie: What is the problem with that doctor? I found out with Mom that people who don’t have an advocate get lousy treatment, bordering on torture at times (waking you up at 4 in the morning to take blood – taking blood every hour).
2:33 pm on October 30th, 2013
OHs: Thank you for the info.
3:15 pm on October 30th, 2013
We vote for the 2025 calendar.
Amalia, did you actually make that up? Impressive to say the least!
Why does it take a 12 day turn around? Don’t they send the info by computer on a pdf. or something? When Barb asked our old vet to send my medical records to the new one, they had it within a day or two. Shouldn’t two leggeds get at least the same quality of service?
3:33 pm on October 30th, 2013
Barb&Maggie: I hope we are all around to enjoy the 2025 Calendar.
BStover: I just copied the butterscotch pie recipe before I lose it. I want to get it made today before the game but I do have to run a few errands now.
A first!
The man in this house is giving me the silent treatment. Bliss!
3:45 pm on October 30th, 2013
I have found that vets give much better service than most human docs.
O’Howlers, I think that is what we use.
Okay, fingers, toes, paws, claws and tails crossed for YSAS.
He went for an audition. This what he told me. It was for the Washington D.C. Shakespeare Company. After he auditioned the director said, “i’ve never met you before, have I?” YSAS said, “No sir, we haven’t met.”
The director said, “Well, it was a pleasure.”
Good energy and prayers!
4:47 pm on October 30th, 2013
Melanie: Oooh, that sounds promising. I am sending my best “get a job” prayers to YSAS.
4:54 pm on October 30th, 2013
All paws crossed and prayers for YSAS.
Yes to the 2015 calendar. That seems so far away, but it really isn’t.
5:25 pm on October 30th, 2013
Clarkson!….YIPPPEEEE!…Zow! The Washington D.C. Shakespeare Company!…snort!…Because of the coincidence of the next Chet and Bernie being set in Washington, D.C. this is a FOR SURE thing!….Wow!
5:27 pm on October 30th, 2013
All paws crossed for YSAS
Ended up making Leek and Cauliflower soup. It was marvelous.
5:33 pm on October 30th, 2013
Barb had to chuckle when she went back and read 2025. That is just a tad too far off. Can we have a do-over and say 2015?
Tonight for dinner we are having halved baked acorn squash, stuffed with a mini meatloaf/large meatball. It makes a nice presentation and is almost a meal in itself. You can add a roll or small salad if you wish.
6:24 pm on October 30th, 2013
We like the 2015 calendar idea. Missing our P but know how it happens. Never happy. Mom is so glad to have such good friends, Tanks a bunch. We love our “Chet” friends.
6:27 pm on October 30th, 2013
Sending good vibrations YSAS! The world is waiting for you!
I like that Chet and Bernie are looking for perps in different parts of the country. Will the 8th book take them to the Iditarod? : )
RIO! Why don’t you want to have your picture in the Plunderer calendar? I bet Beau wouldn’t mind. Heh!
6:28 pm on October 30th, 2013
It’s looking like there will be a 2015 calendar! Yipeee!

Game on! Go Sox!
Butterscotch pie filling is cooling.
7:11 pm on October 30th, 2013
Dawson, thanks for that note. We here knew that Sonja (mom’s 1st dog who was a wolf/husky) among blog friends’ would help Emma cross. It is never easy but friends on this side help. OK, mom has had her grief time and coming home.
Hey, Lulu, we’re home!
7:13 pm on October 30th, 2013
Butterscotch? Our favoeite!
7:13 pm on October 30th, 2013
Three hard hits by the Cards. Three great fielding plays by the Sox. Three out!
7:15 pm on October 30th, 2013
HOH: I’ll send some over as soon as it cools.
7:28 pm on October 30th, 2013

Butterscotch pie here too, please.
7:30 pm on October 30th, 2013
Score!…What’s the score!…snort!…We’ve been upstairs cuz once again my friend had to make supper and then do dishes and then take us for a walk…grunt!…FINALLY we are watching the game…snort!snort!….Looks like it is tied at Nuthin’…wheeze!
7:31 pm on October 30th, 2013

Butterscotch is the BEST
7:33 pm on October 30th, 2013
Muffs!…The die-hard Sox fan with the yellow ear muffs is right where he should be…heh!heh!
7:38 pm on October 30th, 2013
T&G: Sorry, there will be at least one more game after this and maybe 2. I will send pie.
Ortiz walked in the first but no one helped him. Now the Card have runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Yikes! Gomes caught a long fly ball, 1 out.
Rio: I may have to leave to help walk some Standard Poodles.
7:38 pm on October 30th, 2013
Rio, Did you say the guy sits right behind the catcher? We can’t see him.
7:46 pm on October 30th, 2013
Barb&Maggie: I can’t see that guy either.
Whew! After throwing a wild pitch, advancing the runners, Lackey strikes out the batter for the 3rd out.
7:52 pm on October 30th, 2013
We looked up Lahey Clinic and it looks like it is top notch.
We still can’t find the mysterious ear muff man. Is he for real?
7:53 pm on October 30th, 2013
Tomorrow (halowaeenie) is a silly day and the old fart’s b-day. He won’t admit he misses Emma P, but he brought her home to mom from the flee/ oops/ flea market
Dawson and Siber H: In spite of all the brouhaha of the past 24 hrs. We remember we are teamed for sponsoring a Snowhook “A” team god.
8:01 pm on October 30th, 2013
Rio, I’m here.
What a night…T&G are cheering for Boston (They are hoping tonight is the last game of the season)
Barb is watching the game.
8:04 pm on October 30th, 2013
HOH: Now that we have SiberH. on our team, that means we only have to put about 66 pennies in the jar every day.
Barb&Maggie: I see a guy with thick wavy blond hair. He is wearing a white shirt over a turquoise shirt. Maybe that is him. He is right behind the umpire.
8:05 pm on October 30th, 2013
I’m watching the game and I think Molly’s Mom is too.
8:10 pm on October 30th, 2013
I love Big Papi. This time he is walked intentionally. I wonder if OTAS’s dog, Papi, gets hugs and kisses every time Big Papi bats.
8:10 pm on October 30th, 2013
Exciting!…Boston is up by 3 in one fell swoop!…snort!sneeze!
8:16 pm on October 30th, 2013

8:16 pm on October 30th, 2013
Oh hey! I just saw a glimpse of the guy with the yellow ear muffs!
He isn’t a figment of Rio’s overactive imagination.
8:20 pm on October 30th, 2013
Yellow!…I can’t believe you guys have not seen the guy with the yellow ear muffs. He has been at every Sox home game during the play-offs and the World Series…snort!…I smell Season Tickets…chuffle!
8:21 pm on October 30th, 2013
Mr. Tenzing!….That is excellent news!…snort!…I will take two!…Woooo!
8:24 pm on October 30th, 2013
I will take four, Mr. Tenzing. I am bigger than Rio.
8:25 pm on October 30th, 2013
Tenzing, you are great under the quilt. Mom still isn’t tiptop, but thanks to you, she is more mom-like. We love your ability under the quilt!
8:29 pm on October 30th, 2013
Pie is ready. BStover’s mother’s recipe for butterscotch pie. Yummy. With whipped cream, of course.
Princess Sammie and Mollypop’s&Loulou’s Mom: Who are you rooting for?
8:30 pm on October 30th, 2013
Solo home run! 4 – 0 Red Sox.

8:34 pm on October 30th, 2013
Now a double! I think the Cards better pull this pitcher.
Those earmuffs are bright yellow.
I sent in several titles earlier. Some made no sense but I didn’t notice until I hit send.
8:37 pm on October 30th, 2013
OTAS and GLAD’s Papi is usually in between them and upside down getting tummies.
Tenzing? What’s this I read about some sort of photographers at Snowhook yesterday? Philip has let the Kat partially out of the bag.
8:38 pm on October 30th, 2013
A 4 run lead is looking good for Boston!
8:44 pm on October 30th, 2013

8:45 pm on October 30th, 2013

8:47 pm on October 30th, 2013
Dawson, we’re all for Boston. It looks like they have it won and so we will go to bed.
9:00 pm on October 30th, 2013
A 6 run lead is looking even better for Boston. WooHooo
9:05 pm on October 30th, 2013
Princess Sammie, Remember, it is a RED series, even though Bernie says we of the nation within don’t see red well.
9:06 pm on October 30th, 2013
Publicity for Snowhook can’t hurt. I sure would like to see some big sponsor come forward to help them out.
9:08 pm on October 30th, 2013
Dawg!…Did you see that Sox player shake the run-down?…heh!heh!…He alluded several Cardinals to make it to base…snort!

Wow! Ellsbury! Got out of being the pickle in the middle. Heh, heh.
9:22 pm on October 30th, 2013

9:24 pm on October 30th, 2013
Nap-o-li, Nap-o-li, Nap-o-li, closest thing we have to Rangers in the series, now that Salty hasn’t been playing.
9:45 pm on October 30th, 2013
Baseball!…Apparently Barb still has not learned that anything can happen in Baseball…heh!heh!….It’s not over till it’s over…snort!
9:47 pm on October 30th, 2013
Melanie: No need to get excited. The film crew wasn’t there for AJ or Snowhook.
Hey! Where did all the Slim Jim’s go? I only had seven.
HOH: don’t mention it. In glad to be of service. My Lady says a dog can ease all wounds of the heart.
9:52 pm on October 30th, 2013
Rio – is it over?
10:04 pm on October 30th, 2013
Barb&Maggie: The Cards came to life as soon as you left. Come back.
1.5 innings left. 6 – 1 Red Sox.
10:08 pm on October 30th, 2013
Dawson!…Ever notice how when they interview old people in the stands the old people never answer the actual questions…snort!…They sort of answer other questions…heh!
10:13 pm on October 30th, 2013
5 is still too much to over come. We are going to bed and turning the tv off! Sob.
10:19 pm on October 30th, 2013
88 years old. He can say whatever he wants. Heh, heh.
Rio! Tupper knows more than I do about this series. I thought it was tied 2 to 2. But the announcers are saying they are 3 outs away. Is this true?!! The crowd is standing!
10:20 pm on October 30th, 2013
Dear Barb and Maggie, We feel your pain but still have to be for Boston. The Cards from the mid 30’s kept beating Grandpa
Elliot’s beloved Tigers. sniff. We have to be for Boston not them.
10:22 pm on October 30th, 2013
I am declaring Boston the winner and I am going to sleep. WooHoo
Royals, It isn’t really over yet.

10:39 pm on October 30th, 2013
(((yawn)))
nighty noodle all
and LizF, Good morning dear.
I hope Nana is comfy in the new place.
I am reminded of Mom,Maggie’s first trip to a rehab place. She was told it would be just a short 10 minute trip and Dad was at the new place waiting for her.
After about 20 minutes she queried the driver. (It was just her and the driver in the vehicle.) He figured crazy old lady and kept driving.
At last after about 45 minutes they arrived where the driver thought he was supposed to go. Mom REFUSED to get out of the vehicle. She told the driver that she was at the wrong place. and he went in the tell the people that he had their new patient but she wouldn’t come in.
Heh. Then he got back in the vehicle and drove her to the right place where Dad was having a conniption because the hospital had lost Mom.
You must keep your wits about you at all times with those places. Right Melanie?
Now really good night.
10:40 pm on October 30th, 2013

Wose: The Giant pointed out that this is the first full week my Two-legged has slept in her bed since summer. I think she is happy. When she arrived home tonight she scritched right between my ears. What did I do?—Lean right into it. In my own way I told her not to stop. When she did stop—Bad mama!—I licked her nose. She gave me a tummy as penance. Do you need me to stay will you on Howl-o-ween? I will sit in your lap to make sure you and Grizz don’t get scrarit.

Belle Starr: I think you are in exactly the right place! Scritches! Tummies! The Pixie home! Yes, you are where you need to be. We do not have many trick-or-treaters here where we live. The Grizz will sit on my lap if I get scarit.
(whispering). Doe the Pixie have a magic wand with a silver star on top? I think that is where she is hiding your sparkles.
Are there any pictures of you, you, you on this year’s calendar? Right now on my computer at work I have a picture of you, you, you and our mama, Luna on my desktop computer.
When are you coming to live with me forever ?

Thanks Dawson! I got a big boost from MLB, who contacted the Dropkick Murphys about singing the National Anthem. The Murphys have never sung the Anthem for a losing game in Boston. So it goes.
