Tiny Quote That Caught Our Eye

Leda herself wore dark pants and a short jacket with interesting buttons, the color of bone. What would one of those buttons feel like between your teeth? You couldn’t help wondering.

Good morning, everyone! Possibly a really good crunch from those buttons. Yep, like the hickory nuts we get in the yard! Mom took the lady to get her car and now comes toddler Tuesday. Hey, maybe we’ll get treats and a nap when she gets home. A bite of autumn in the air this morning.
    Have a thought provoking Tuesday.

Stay away from those buttons Chet! Leda, too, is a piece of work.

    Good morning all.

Merl Reagle died. I worked on one of his crossword puzzles with my coffee this morning, put the puzzle aside to read the newspaper, and learned of his death. He was only 65 and should have had many more years of delightful verbal merry-making.

Good morning from show land. We now have our hot spot. Unfortunately it is not the one we paid for. The local WiFi network that is here on the grounds is not working. For once, the company whose name rhymes with horizon came through. They remotely turned our smartphone into a hot spot, and now our tablet works too.
Very helpful when trying to make credit card sales.

So, we are up and ready. Bring it on!

    And Chet. No!

MPM’s Mom: I read that article also. It stated that he started writing crossword puzzles when he was six and that he said, “The English language was the best toy a boy ever had.” (I’m going to try to find one of his puzzles…even though I’m not good at crosswords.)

MPMs Mom, B. Stover–I had the same experience Sunday, finished the puzzle only to find that he’d gone. (For my local paper, I grew up on puzzles made by a pair of people, Barry Tunick and Sylvia Burzstyn. I was deslotaed when each of them died, within 5 years of each other) and Merl’s puzzles replaced theirs. Now I am triply bereaved.

On a different note, it’s international cat day! (Maybe we should all adopt one–although I’m not sure how that would go over in this house. I thought of attempting a move called “skin-the-cat” on a bar or trapeze, but have thought better of it due to a) an obnoxious name; and b) age and gravity potentially impacting my performance. Perhaps we can all observe in whatever manner seems most appropriate.

    Trinonyms Crossword Puzzle

    Note from Merl Reagle:
One of the definitions of bath is “bathtub,” which makes the word something of a linguistic rarity: bath, tub, and bathtub are all synonyms – or “trinonyms,” if you will. After stalking these odd birds for many years I found only ten others – just enough for a puzzle.

    Bathtub
    Bunnyrabbit
    Ratfink
    Taxicab
    Sodapop
    Forefront
    Oleomargarine
    Taperecord
    Getonboard
    Kittycat
    Sumtotal

These are from The Department of Redundance Department – with acknowledgements to the fabulous Firesign Theatre, who coined this term in the 1970s.

  16. B.Stover

    Trinonyms–what fun!

And Kekio is making me laugh…out loud.

MP&LL’s Mom, Redundancy is a pet peeve of mom’s, repetitions. HUH? Of all of yours, the only truly annoying one is “oleomargarine”. (at least in this house)

P.S., mom took us for a ride, Ride RIDE in the car. Lake and herons, neighbor dogs, wind in our nostrils. Life is good, amigo.

MPM, I love the word “Ratfink” and have been using it of late to describe not very nice people rather than have my mouth washed out with soap.

What a great photo of Masquers! When the market gets like this, I follow some old wisdom from a former broker–don’t look at your statements for a while…
I had meant to mention watching “Crossfire Hurricane” on HBO–documentary of the rolling Stones 1st 50 years–and your comments about the Beatles’ cover yesterday reminded me. It was nice reliving a big chunk of my childhood and youth (and having a moment of clarity vis-a-vis “Sympathy for the Devil”) but I did find one thing really shocking and surprised myself by being appalled at how much tobacco was being smoked ALL THE TIME by so many people. That’s probably my big insight for the day…

Wose, The market was up all day, 250-300 points. At 2:00 it was up, and then by 2:30 it started dropping straight down. By market close it was down 204 points. That’s like 450 points in half an hour. We are in for a rough ride!

Thanks, but not thanks, Alice. I do not like the outdoors. Oh no I do not. I learned early on, courtesy of Sasha, that bad things happen outside.
I am told that my feline predecessors (before Sasha came along) used to follow Boris and Misha on long walks through the nearby village and back.

Alice: That is very cute, but have to say…no kat in this family has ever been on leash (although it was tried with my great great grandkat, with a video to prove it) and never will be.
Howlers: I have a vision of the three of them on their long walks through the village. Nice.
Hi, BB (aka Linda the Lurker) So nice to hear from you!
