Happy First Day of Summer to you all. Mama says she is celebrating by taking a book outside in the sun to read. Have we mentioned that she loves the summer and the heat and the sun?

We are so impressed that there are so many excellent literary functions that happen on Cape Cod. And we are proud that Our Favorite Author is supportive of so many of them, and makes himself available to his thousands of fans.

    Off to the pottery.

Good morning all. T & G, you would like our weather here today. Hottest day of the week!

Did my duty outside, now going to try to get back into The Nightingale.

    Howdy all!
T&G! Our mom likes the same sort of weather. So therefore, so do we!
BSD, any updates on DIL’s mom?
BooBear! Is your mama thinking about retiring? Our mom says she only has 9 more days, but we are not sure that’s a good thing. Here is what our living room looks like. As you can see, there is no place for poor Howlers to rest our weary bones.

    Greetings!

Our OFA looks like he will be very busy!

Happy first day of summer! (The solstice occurs at 6:34 pm).
Happy birthday to Brian Wilson, whose birthday this year coincides with the first day of summer. How appropriate!
Sir Paul McCartney’s birthday was Saturday. Both musicians turned 74.

Bear, Masquers, and Nana: Very strong prayers going out to DIL’s mom.

Howlers: Good day to youse all! If Grizz and I ever move, I am going to call your humans to help us pack. Such a nice, neat job they have done. :^)

Whew. Long trip home with long delays. We got to erie at a quarter to 5, which is even late for the train, which usually runs late. Had to wait for an Uber to be available, then wait for him to get u, so we didn’t get home home until 5:30. But we’re here safe. I have to go get Fiona from where she’s boarding soon, and Leno’s coming home sometime…today? Tomorrow? Depends on Jen and how much fun they’re having, or something. Feeling fairly human after sleeping the morning away anyway. New job starts but is a tad disorganized. …

Howlers, yes, Mom has plans to retire. She has met with a financial advisor and it looks feasible after she reaches 66. So she is looking at January 2019, or as soon thereafter that the house sells. That seems like an extremely long time away. But every weekend that she doesn’t get everything done that she needs to do, she keeps thinking that it would be nice to have time during the week to handle a lot of things. And get to enjoy more leisure time. Now she feels guilty if she takes a day to just veg on a weekend since there is always stuff that needs to get done. Oh well, one thing she has learned is that time flies nowdays so it shouldn’t seem all that far off. AND that way your rents will be able to get the new house and barn all in order for her trip east!!

Glad that Buddy and Hilde and Alena (hopefully) are home safe and sound after their big adventure. Our mom is green with envy.

Although Kristi’s mom celebrated her 88th birthday in March, one would never know it. She is one of the youngest oldsters we have ever met and a joy to be around.
Tulla had a small fall, more like a slip, at their lake house a week ago Friday…fracturing her 1st vertebrae and breaking the 2nd vertebrae completely. Originally told that she was too old for surgery and would wear a cervical collar for 3 months. Then the family met with a neurosurgeon at Swedish Hospital who stated that it was way too risky to wait. Any mishap could lead to paralysis.
    The surgery lasted 2+ hours…from 9 am to 11:30…with 3 neurosurgeons.
Will keep you updated as we hear more. Your continuing prayers are much appreciated.

Some day I’ll learn how to spell my dog’s name.

All of this retirement talk reminds me of this, seen in a 1990 issue of the Braille Monitor:

    **From the Mouths of Babes:

The following item was sent to us by the Toledo Federation of the Blind, a chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio.

After school break, the teacher asked her small pupils how they spent their holiday. One little boy’s reply went like this:

“We always spend Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live up here in a big brick house, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida. Now they live in a park with a lot of other retarded people. They live in tin huts. They ride tricycles that are too big for me. They all go to a building they call the wrecked hall, but it is fixed now. They all do exercises but not very well. They play a game with big checkers and push them around on the floor with sticks. There is a swimming pool, but I guess nobody teaches them; because they just stand there in the water with their hats on. My Grandma used to bake cookies for me, but nobody cooks there. They all go to restaurants that are fast and have discounts. When you come into the part, there is a doll house with a man sitting in it. He watches all day so they can’t get out without him seeing. I guess everybody forgets who they are because they all wear badges with their names on them. Grandma says that Grandpa worked hard all his life to his retardment. I wish they would move back home, but I guess the man in the doll house won’t let them out.”

Put today on the calendar…mom applied for medicare in January. When she went to AK in March, still no card, only the letter confirming 🙁 In May she talked to the SS office again because still NO card. Today, 6 months after applying for Medicare, she got her “card”. It is paper and chintzy. We are not amused.

Boobear, If your mom is going to sell the house, what are the plans for the 4-leggeds?

Retirement, or even semi-retirement like I have here, is wonderful. You are going to love it! John has a new guy coming into the office in July and the office help situation may change. I told John I didn’t want to work more but working less would be fine. So I may be cutting back from 19 hours a week to 12-14. That will be better.

I just heard that the full moon this month is called the Strawberry Moon.
